Text tabs you find on the internet are pretty much useless. If you wanna learn the songs you gotta order the songbooks

Guitar Pro tabs are twice as good as the song books. They show what to play on bass, guitar, and drums.

Not to mention, they're 100% free.

Completely un-true.
They are the exact same thing, someone elses interpretation of how the song is/was played by the original artist, just because something says official on the front doesnt mean its content is correct, lots of tab books are utter rubbish.
Thats not to say that lots of internet tabs arent rubbish, because alot of them are, but internet tabs and "official" tab books are about as usefull as each other.

A lot of tab books are bullshit I agree, but the offspring books are done by Hal Leonard. They're the most accurate songbooks you can get. And anyone who's anyone can submit text tabs to a site. Hell I submited a few to a couple sites when I was 13. Besides, you're gonna find few different tabs for most songs on the internet, and no two are gonna be the same. A lot of them completely contradict each other. So unless you have a really good ear, it's immposible to know which one is right. And actually, if you have a good ear you can probably just figure it out on your own anyway. But I have all the songbooks (except Greatest Hits) and I find them all very useful, accurate, and easy to read, not like 99% of the text tabs I find online.

noodlesfan

But the ones online sound like the song, the ones that don't sound right, usually don't stay up too long. It shouldn't be limited to one way to play everything, one tab might offer how to play a song using open chords, another will show you how to do it in power chords.

Good points I guess. But I do most of my learning by ear now anyway, especailly if I were ever to learn an Offspring song again.

And there's 40% of them that aren't shit, just sift through. I can upload a .zip folder with almost every rock song on it in guitar pro format, and they're all accurate.

Just the offspring songs? oh, that makes it a hell of a lot easier than finding somewhere that offers to host a file that big.

Well apparently you and I have completely different definitions of Ďaccurateí. Most of those guitar pro files are worse than the text tabs.

The first one there was All Along. When I opened it I noticed right away that there was no mention of the G#5 chord on the intro.

Come Out And Play was pretty bad. The intro is supposed to be 3 harmonics played on the 5th fret of the low E string. The rhythm guitar for the middle-eastern riff is wrong, itís not played the same as the verse as everyone seems to think. Thereís no mention of the palm muting on the verse, and thereís also not supposed to be any completely muted strings on the verse either. And also, the D5 chord on the pre-chorus wasnít even mentioned.

Next I checked out Gotta Get Away. On the inrto youíre supposed to play on the B and G strings, not the E and B strings. And those two notes at the beginning of the intro riff arenít just all 6 strings muted, itís supposed to be a harmonic on the 7th fret of the G string. Also, the verse is played the same as the main riff, except the open E string is muted. Not that they got that riff right anyway. The last bar of the main riff in Gotta Get Away is supposed to look like this:

E|--------------------------------|
B|--------------------------------|
G|9-------9--10---9--10---9---9---|
D|9-------9---9---9---9---9---9---|
A|7-------7---7---7---7---7---7---|
E|--------------------------------|

The Pay The Man file is a joke.

I could go on and on.
