I avoided this because some of the most pretentious pieces of shit I know love this album. But then I realized how stupid that was, realized how much I love the song "Crazy", and went and picked up this album.

I also know Cee-Lo Green all too well, and I think he's always been really interesting, but much better on other songs than on anything he has a heavier influence on. This album, however is...

Already a contender for best album of the year. It's incredibly interesting, soulful, fun, creative, and just fucking SICK with beats. Unbelievably hot beats.

I know nieh has this, but is anyone else into this duo?

They were on the radio all the time here. I listened to it while doing office work. It was alright. Apparently they give a fantastic live performance.

Only heard 2 songs off it. I hate the song Crazy with a passion, the song Smiley Faces is a good song though. Any other songs I should listen out for?

Download Go Go Gadet Gospel and Gone Daddy Gone. It's an awesome album. Lots of fun.

Download Go Go Gadet Gospel

With a song name like that, it's got to be good! :D

The over-hype and over-play of the song Crazy put me way off getting this album.

Gone Daddy Gone and Just a Thought are the standouts as far as I'm concerned. Check 'em out, Yatesy!

What is the Setup in Gnarls Barkley?

One guy?, two guys? a whole band? what??

My mom picked up this CD when she first heard "Crazy" on the radio. She plays it in the car constantly and I'm a little addicted. The whole album is a nice work, but I like "Crazy" a lot particulary.

A duo. Cee-Lo Green on vocals, Danger Mouse in charge of music.

Danger Mouse sounds like a legend.

You beat me to it. I knew there was two guys, one vocals, one music, but didn't know their names. I'm not that big on the vocals, but those beats. Damn.

You do know i was reffering to his name, not what he can do musically?

Doesn't matter. I meant his talent. The name is sweet too.

I still hate it. No disrespect now, just not a fan of this guy.

Just started to listen to Gone Daddy Gone and I already love it. As for the other 2 tracks I've listened to far, they're ok but nothing too special.

Once I asked a friend of mine to send it to me via MSN Messenger. That's because I wanted to send it again to a girl I know. She was so fucking happy! Now, my mother got an iPod nano for her birthday and I listened to Crazy. I hate it. Anyway, I think it's one of the catchiest songs ever. Now don't get me wrong because Gnarls Barkley is very good.......I had a chance of listening to his previous albums and I can tell he's done a great work!
It's just not my genre....well, happy listening!:)
Long-ish post...sorry!

I was pretty turned off from this album because of how "crazy" is overplayed. But, I guess since i respect your musical opinion, I'll check out the songs nieh suggested.

April is looking like it's going to turn out to be an awesome month for music.

There are seriously no words to describe how goddamned excited I am for this. Yes, it's only been two years, but I've been waiting too long for a follow up to their masterpiece debut.

I thought I replied in this thread before... I guess not. I like the debut album enough. Crazy is one of the only songs ever massively overplayed that I've never gotten sick of. I still love it. And Gone Daddy Gone is incredible. I never truly got into the debut, so I'm not really excited for a new one... but I will definitely check it out. I think they are very talented song-writers.

Does the album turn out to be the fantasy of a retarded kid looking into a snowglobe?

New album out today. I downloaded it, but deleted it immediately because it was a really low-quality version.

Someone get a high quality version up now.

NOW PLEASE NOW NOW NOW NOW!!!

Blargh! Wiki says it's just a digital release and that the physical release doesn't come out until next week. I'm still going to check Tunes to see if they have it since they tend to put stuff out a bit early.

So, I managed to pick up a copy and I just have one question. Where are all the beats?

JohnnyNemesis
03-31-2008, 04:54 PM
I'm wondering the same. Everytime I go to listen to the new album though, I get distracted and end up just listening to St. Elsewhere again because it's so amazingly good.

But is there a leaked version of the new album out there that doesn't sound liek complete shit in terms of quality? I haven't even heard the album the whole way through because I feel like I'm judging it unfairly based on the sound quality.

nieh
03-31-2008, 04:58 PM
I have the actual cd, I can rip it and upload it for you if you want. Most of the album is still really good (there's I think 3 tracks I can go either way on), but even the best songs are nowhere near as insane as an average song on St. Elsewhere and on the whole it's less focused on being fun.

JohnnyNemesis
03-31-2008, 05:12 PM
Oh sweet. Yeah, if you could rip it and upload it in the best quality possible within reason (320kbps, perhaps?), I'd really appreciate it. So please do that.

I hope I love it as much as St. Elsewhere, but from what I could tell, your assessment is dead-on.

That, Going On, Run (I'm a Natural Disaster), and Surprise are my favorites I think. Open Book is probably my least favorite.

JohnnyNemesis
04-02-2008, 01:12 PM
I was just about to edit my post and add those exact same songs (Going On, Run, and Surprise) to my favorites. Now I'm freaked out, 'cause that was downright eerie.

JohnnyNemesis
04-02-2008, 10:55 PM
Side note: I'm a fucking dumbass for not realizing until just now that "On-Line" is about cocaine use, not Internet use. To be fair, I never really paid attention to the lyrics until just now, so I have an excuse. Once you do listen to those lyrics though, there is no excuse. Such an awesome song though.

Soo....Gnarls Barkley and Battles are going to be doing a "secret myspace show" together in NYC on 6/8. I really, really want to see this, but I'm not sure if NYC counts as 'near me' according to this (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=44431422): "Add Secret Shows as a friend and if there's a show coming near you, we'll let you know a couple days beforehand."

JohnnyNemesis
05-27-2008, 05:46 PM
Oh my fucking yes. I returned to NYC juuuuuuuuuust in time.

If we can go together, let's have lots of buttsects afterwards. Or during.

I think Jerz counts as near you. Just don't specify south Jerz.

I've been there, but only once, so I don't know. But we MUST be there together. I was gonna suggest you and I meet up around that location earlier in the day, hang out, and check the area every now and again to see whether the line is ridiculous or not.

Oh, and I can't stop listening to "Surprise". So. Fucking. Good.

uhhh. josh, the Fillmore is like 2x-3x the size of the place we saw your brother's band, i guess. it's all standing room with a small upstairs bar. i saw minus the bear there and it was sold out....and there weren't like, loads of people there. i'd suggest getting there pretty early.

definitely lemme know what is going on. depending on what we're doing that weekend with the boyfriend's friends, we might come up for it and to hang in the city.
