Hey everybody what do you think is the best new album?
I would have to say avenged sevenfold-city of evil, atreyu-a deathgrip on yesterday, or godsmack-4

Before I'm beaten to it...Billy Talent II.

What counts as a new album, anyway? I see you put City of Evil, but that came out more than a year ago.

Dr. Doctor - Eccentric, Electric
Are they ever planning on making a full-length album? Or did they already and I just missed it?

Also, I fear I may have actually acquired a taste for Man Man. I've got a few of their songs now and will probably end up getting Six Demon Bag.

Spider Cider is fucking catchy as all hell.

Royce Da 5'9 - Independent's Day is by far the best album released in the last year.

Muse's Black Holes and Revelations.

Aside from Supermassive Black Hole and Starlight (2 singles and probably the 2 weakest songs on the album), the entire thing is absolutely brilliant.

I second Muse.

I haven't really gotten any albums that were released in the past year aside from AFI - Decemberunderground, and that was alright. I think it could have been alot better than what it was, though. I also really like The Mars Volta's Amputechture, but I don't officially own that.

I plan on getting the new Modest Mouse when it comes out, though. December 19th.

Muse's Black Holes and Revelations.

I totally second that.

Muse Black Holes & Revelations for me probably, although I need to listen to Blood Mountain by Mastodon again to see if i like it more or not. I also anticipate Beck's new album will be better.

I third Billy Talent II.

On a totally different level than the above album: Wolfmother and Riverboat Gamblers weren't that bad.

Ignite - Our Darkes Days

Actually if you include late 2005, Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor isn't too bad.

I do seventh Muse though.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Stadium Arcadium.

09-23-2006, 02:34 PM
That's because Stadium Arcadium got super old after like a month. I never listen to any songs off of it unless they're on the radio or shuffle turns them on.

My vote, I guess, goes to either Streetlight Manifesto's Keasbey Nights pt. 2 or Dog Fashion Disco's Adultery. Not that any of you have heard the second one.

0r4ng3
09-23-2006, 02:35 PM
Does Keasbey Nights really count? I mean, it was performed in 2006, but it was originally written in 1998.

Considering the other choices other people made, I sure as hell HOPE that Keasbey Nights counts.

0r4ng3
09-23-2006, 02:58 PM
Point taken. I think it should count.

I would also like to nominate Anti-Flag's For Blood and Empire. I know a lot of people don't like AF, but FBAE is their best album since 2001's Underground Network.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Stadium Arcadium.
that's because it was one of RHCP's worst albums :(

someone mentioned the SOAD albums... I think mezmerize was damn good, but I was slightly disappointed in hypnotize.

0r4ng3
09-23-2006, 03:11 PM
it was one of RHCP's worst albums :(
Which is exactly why it was so damn popular.

Llamas
09-23-2006, 03:33 PM
it really wasn't that popular for being good... the only reasons it got so much attention were because the band hyped it SOOO much, the crap with tom petty, and the success of "dani california". Plus, every RHCP album gets tons of attention.

0r4ng3
09-23-2006, 03:37 PM
From what I heard, this got the most attention out of any of 'em.

Llamas
09-23-2006, 03:46 PM
how are you defining attention? album sales? ratings? for ratings, californication, bloodsugarsexmagik, and by the way all got overall higher ratings than stadium arcadium. BSSM sold more copies in the US alone (7 million in the US) than stadium arcadium has sold worldwide (5 million worldwide), and californication is the band's best seller (over 15 million copies worldwide).

I just don't see how you're defining "attention", I guess.

0r4ng3
09-23-2006, 03:49 PM
Maybe I am wrong about the attention compared to the other albums. It could be that this is the first album where I'm old enough to realize how overplayed it is. Even if the others were more or less overplayed than SA, I wouldn't know about it.

Llamas
09-23-2006, 04:29 PM
that's probably it. I remember californication being on the freakin' NEWS cause of its popularity. It was much bigger than this album, and got a lot of people into RHCP... most of the band's fans came from either BSSM or cali.

BuddyHolly

I second that

I loved Stadium Arcadium when I first got it. Now I can't listen to it without being bored to death.

As far as new albums, Sonic Youth's newest one, Rather Ripped, is pretty good. Quite possibly their best album in 10 years.

XYlophonetreeZ
09-23-2006, 06:21 PM
I think I've listened to Stadium Arcadium all the way through maybe once, ever. But that doesn't mean it's a bad album, just a ricockulously long one. I'll be damned if I'm gonna listen to the same album for one twelfth of my day.

But I really don't like most of Jupiter. "Charlie," "Wet Sand," and "Torture Me" are all brilliant. The rest of the stuff really struck me as trying to fit into some specific mold, like funky or classic-rock-ish or whatever.

Mars is good almost all the way through. I think a lot of people who don't like the album just got burned out by Jupiter and maybe never have really paid much attention when listening to Mars.

My Favorite ones of this year.

Senior Discount: There Were Four Who Tried
Bouncing Souls: The Gold Record
NOFX: Wolves In Wolves Clothing
and maybe Guttermouth's SHAVE THE PLANET.

those are probably my favorites so far this year.

New album! I haven't bought it yet, but I dled it. It's really good! I seriously love how their music has matured so much over the past like 13 years, yet they've kept their very distinct sound and style.

Plus, Kevin and Jim each have a song where they sing the lead vocals. And Jim's is actually good, unlike on "born on a pirate ship". :)
