Today marks 20 years since the night Cliff Burton died. Cliff died from a bus crash in Ljungby Municipality, Sweeden on the 27th Septmember 1986.

Burton died when the band's tour bus hit black ice (though it is still disputed that they may have crashed because the driver may have been drinking) and flipped over in rural Sweden (Kronobergs län). As the bus was skidding out of control and eventually rolled over on the grass, Burton fell through a window, landed underneath the bus and was crushed.

I wonder if Metallica would still kick ass nowadays if Cliff hadn't died. They came out with a great album 2 years later (And Justice For All), then came the Black Album, which was good but took the band in an entirely different direction. Everything they've released since has been crap, including the god-awful St. Anger from 3 years ago.

Come out and smash'em up!

Cliff was one bad-ass "4-string motherfucker" (as stated in Cliff 'Em All if I remember correctly).

FFS, Dimebag played guitar. Cliff played Bass. Enough said.

And I can assure you that Cliff would never have let St Anger happen. I do think Black Album and And Justice For All would have been produced. I believe they already had some of the songs qritten anyway.
