Huummm...can I see...

Here in Brasil like in Portugal, the letter "e" you don't pronounced like the "e" of the english language. Think in the word "end" you do not pronounced "ind" right? Then you pronounced Pena; not Pina.

I was clearly?

Thanks for the welcomes SkunkIt!

But anyway, welcome. And don't be ashamed of your English, you'll get understood and it's really nice and cute to read actually.

uhh we have pretty major accents in the midwest. According to linguistic scholars, the cleanest dialect with "no" accent is california.

to other people, californians sound to have accents... but by lingual analysis, californians speak words the most phonetically and without a real accent... so yes, that would mean that.

and ninth, parts of minnesota (northern) have more "hick"ish accents... doesn't sound anything like canadian anywhere here, though. and iowan accents are hilarious! every time I've been there, I've been made fun of for not loving country music and felt like I dropped out of society into some sub-intelligence reality where people speak funny. :)

My mom is from Iowa and she's always going on about how there is no Iowa accent, and they always pull news anchors from Iowa because they sound the most neutral. However, it's all bullshit. Some of my Iowan relatives (mostly my grandma and one cousin) have pretty strong midwest accents. It's like the same thing as a Minnesota accent.

0r4ng3
10-27-2006, 06:30 PM
Is there really a such thing as having a neutral accent? To me, it was always that no matter where you're from, you'll have an accent to someone else.
