this is a cool site where you, using the keyboard, tap the song rhythm of a song and then they tell you which song it is. for me it's worked just once, but it's kinda cool

I just did "Detroit Rock City" and it came up with another Kiss song. It was close, I guess. Coincidentally, Casey hits a double when I play "Detroit Rock City".

I tried a few songs and it never worked. Then I tried Brain Stew by Green Day, because there's no way this thing couldn't recognize the song (and let's face it, I thought I couldn't do it wrong, doing the rhythm of that song cannot be this difficult) ... well, it didn't recognise the song. Not believing it, I tried a second time and it finally worked though Brain Stew wasn't first on the list. May I add that I did it while listening to the song?
Anyway, it's kinda entertaining.

It knows nothing.

I tried 5-6 times, and it worked every time. I'm good.

There's a song I've forgotten the lyrics, the title & the singer, but I do recall how it goes, unfortunately I only get wrong matches. Steven when you get on msn I'll sing the song, perchance you'll know it...

I can't garauntee i know it, but i'll try my best.

Are you supposed to tap along with the rythm, the vocals, or what?

10-28-2006, 08:50 AM
the melody

All About Eve

There's more than one melody in most songs... guitar, vocals, etc

10-28-2006, 09:07 AM
no. the melody is THE melody. like when you play the piano, the left hand represents the bass line most of the times & the right hand represents the melody. in a symphonic orchestra the first violinists get to play the melody. in a band, the singer gets to sing the melody. THE melody. whatever supports it, isn't THE melody.

I did Brain Stew and it came up first.

However, this piece of shit can't detect Smoke on the Water.

Oh, but it does. Here you go (http://www.songtapper.com/s/online-music.bin?saveId=4732717&tapAuth=6f6a3f5986d3c9dcbb975e8546f4e0c3)

Learn the art of tapsinging.

But it thinks it's by CCR and Boston.

It didn't get Original Prankster but it got Britney Spears' Oops I did it again

I suck...

it's too hard to know which notes to tap... a lot of singers slur a lot of notes, and it's hard to decide if you should tap them as seperate notes or not.

Yeah, and different verses have different rythms due to different words sometimes.

10-28-2006, 06:34 PM
I also found it really difficult.

It didn't get a single one of mine, and I'm absolutely positive I tapped them right.

I actually got AC/DC's Back in Black by tapping the main guitar riff. So yeah, I guess vocal melodies aren't the only thing work with this. Rhythm works too as long as it's an important enough part of the song.

I haven't had any luck for anything else. I couldn't even get marry had a little lamb nor jingle bells.

10-28-2006, 07:14 PM
Yeah, the only thing that worked for me, and I tried a bunch was AC/DC Back in Black.

Pretty interesting for awhile.

EDIT: Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple worked too.

10-28-2006, 07:23 PM
'mary had a little lamb' did not work.

'in the jungle' worked.

'sk8r boi' worked.

'the world i know' did not work.

the results are very iffy... I'd expect mary had a little lamb and the world I know to work more likely than in the jungle... and lol at sk8r boi.

I don't know

the one that worked for me was smells like teen spirit, but just tapping its chorus it worked, 'cause first I tapped the beginning and it didn't work. some that didn't work I listened to the tapping I did and I understand why they didn't get it right, hehe

I'm curious as to what they do with multiple submissions for the same song. For instance, I never know whether a guitar riff should count as the melody when the vocals are absent briefly. Sometimes I'll include it, sometimes I won't. About 4 out of 5 times for me the correct answer hasn't come up. So I'll tell them what song I was doing, and usually they already have it. So in that case, do they just add my taps to some prior collection of people's taps and what, average them together? Because that would just end up fucking things up more. Some people are gonna interpret "melody" more strictly than others.

Hey, here's a more funner way to use that site! Copy and paste the urls of your tapping midis into the board. Then, since songtapper has decided that EACH AND EVERY ONE OF MY TAPS APPARENTLY SUCK, we can see if our fellow BBSers are any smarter than they are!

Here are some of mine. I've just been shuffling my iTunes around and so these are more or less random. Xept I only chose songs that'd be well-known to the board.

It recognized none of these. Hmm, could this become like another "Play!" thread?

This is exciting!

I did This Celluloid Dream by AFI first, which it didn't guess.

Then I did My Chemical Romance's Helena, which was it's first guess. Pretty sweet.

I suck at this. I did Miss Murder, Coming Undone by Korn, and then Metallica's King Nothing.

I'm one for five. woot.
