View Full Version : 2nd Annual Favorite Band of the BBS, POLL!

wheelchairman

Alright, it's that time again boys n' girls. We're gonna start this poll off with every band that got 3 nominations or more. (I will include a list of all the bands nominated and how many nominations they got in the second post, if anyone is interested.)

There will be no limits to how many bands you voted for. However if you voted for every single band, I will think you are thoroughly uncool. Don't worry though, the poll will be private.

First of all, my comments on the bands that were nominated.

Never heard of Streetlight Manifesto, but everyone who nominated them besides RickyCrack looked like people with bad taste in music to me.

Same goes for Billy Talent

I was just amused by the fact that people nominated the Guns N' Roses. Do you own their albums? Ever listened to them all the way through? And you still weren't bored?

I was quite shocked that people still liked Sum41.

You all know my opinion of young Led Zeppelin fans...

I downloaded all the Rammstein albums recently, and they all sound exactlythe same... At first I thought the downloading fucked up and downloaded the same 11 files. But no.. they just aren't very creative with their music..

Third Eye Blind, seriously people.... Vanilla Rock at it's best.

I can't believe more votes weren't given to clearly better bands like A Perfect Circle. Or the Dandy Warhols, or Danko Jones for that matter. Or Leonard Cohen or Tool. :/

Now here's a list of all the nominated bands and how many nominations they got. Every band that got more than one nomination was put into the "ranks" so to speak.

My nominations:
http://offspring.com/forums/showpost.php?p=900763&postcount=21

Other than Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation, I'm not really a that big fan of the bands I nominated. I just included the other three just because I thought they have a decent chance of winning. They might not be my favorites, but I thought I might as well not completely waste my nominations votse and give it to the bands that at least have some talent.

and I think Per completely skipped my nominations because he didn't include Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation in the 1 nomination list. I know he thinks I have horrible taste in music and my nominations won't really make a difference, but I feel discriminated against. :(

Never heard of Streetlight Manifesto, but everyone who nominated them besides RickyCrack looked like people with bad taste in music to me.

and yet, I'm still willing to bet that you'd love at least a few of their songs.
I have never met someone who didn't.

Besides, I voted for Streetlight, and From what I know My taste in music is very close to RickyCrack's.
You don't know me that well though, so ah well.

Voted for Streetlight and Big D.

Apathy, it's not that I don't like your taste in music. I just don't like you. I don't know why, I guess I've seen you be annoying somewhere.

Jebus, sucks to be you. If you edited your nominations later on, I might've skipped them because I didn't go back. Or you might just be skipped. It was bound to happen. Next year I'll add the list of who I counted as well.

Hmm.

Well that's not much better for me. Although if you go back and look at some of my earliest posts - well, I'd probably think I was annoying too.
Other than that I think the only place I've been annoying is with my little bitchfests with MotaBoy. And he's pretty well liked, Amirite?

Either way, I still suggest you listen to a few Streetlight Songs. As long as you aren't completely turned off by horns I think you'll like a couple songs.

Then you should listen to both A Moment of Silence and A Moment of Violence. Both very different songs, you'll end up liking at least one of them.

Failing, Flailing is one of the only songs of theirs I don't like.

There's a thread on them somewhere full of reccomendations. Moment of Violence/Silence are both good, most people new to the band like Point/Counterpoint.

There's barely any screaming in their second album, if that helps.

I was just about to say that. If you listen to something like "This Is How It Goes" and then listen to "Surrender", you'd think of two different bands.

Well, that's not quite the screaming I meant.

It just depends. But I don't think the two albums have much in the way of difference.

Mostly depends on how much people are trusted when it comes to music. People think Mike has good taste in music, thus they check it out.

Yes, yes I am.
I tried to find an example of the latter, but I've found that I'm not really a big fan of any band that has more than 5 albums out. How convenient.

It is usually just me that thinks this way, but when a band releases something I hate, I can't think about that band without that thing springing to mind. No matter how much I loved them beforehand, I always stray away from the band after a bad release.

0r4ng3
11-01-2006, 06:00 PM
That wouldn't make sense, only reason offspring are omitted is because this is an offspring board. So the voters would be extremely biased... Tastes change over time anyway.
I personally think that they should both be omitted because, if they weren't, they would win every single poll. We need some fairness here.

I agreed that Offspring should be out. It's an offspring board. But taking AFI out next year doesn't seem right. Just because they have a good chance at winning = banned?

I don't want AFI to win, either, but I don't see how it'd be a shame... it's a poll of the favorite band on this board, not a poll of the best band in the world or like the winning band gets an award. it's just to see what the most popular band is on this board... I don't think it's a shame that people like AFI.

You moron, orange was listening the most popular songs because 78 water said he'd never heard of AFI. listing song titles of really popular songs is done to see if the person recognizes them, and if they check them out, they might say "oh, I know this song". orange never said they were their best songs.

Nah, this is for "I can't believe so few people voted for this one band and I secretly harbor the hope that the votes will amazingly be reversed by the arrival of twelve posters with 'decent' taste in music who will help my favorite band be widely accepted as the best."

It's just a step below what will happen once people are told that the poll is finished.

EDIT - Did you check out Muse, in the end? And why didn't you vote for them? You must have bad taste in music.

Sacrifice Theory reminds me so much of The Offspring because of the bassline...

Summer Shudder has cellphone button-pressing noises in it (do I sound this childish all the time?) Other than that, SS is awesome. Love Like Winter is strangely beautiful. Pretty much the only song I can't stand on Decemberunderground is The Interview.

Was Hunter in Sing the Sorrow?
