View Full Version : Post (and/or share) your Music!

So yeah, bd007h's sig and some talks I've had with him inspired this thread. If it's a success, please heap equal amounts of praise on us both. Here's how it's gonna go:

Step 1 - Find a program that will export a list of your music collection. For iTunes on my iBook, I use iPlaylist (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14827). If anyone has suggestions for what works with other players on different platforms, let me know and I'll edit them here.

Step 2 - Use the program to create your list.

Step 3 - Post your collection in a handy little .html file in this thread. You can upload the file using something like rapidshare.de, savefile.com, or yousendit.com, or whatever. Then, people can open it using whatever browser it is they use.

Step 4 - Check out what people have and get some trades going!

Rules:

-No shit-talking other people's collections in this particular thread. Fucking seriously.

-No selfishness. If people are okay with giving and getting nothing in return, that's fine, but as a general rule I think you should at least make your collection available before asking people for theirs. I'm not perfect in this regard, but I'll try.

-Sharing albums here is fine if more than one or two people want the same collection of music from you, but generally IMs are more convenient for trading (and less shamelessly illegal, lolz).

-Remember to update your collections every now and then!

Here's mine. College life is busy, so I might be a flake as far as getting music to you people goes, but feel free to request anything:

So, what does this do? Do you download someone's entire music collection, or just read what songs are in it?

Edit: Oh, I get it now.

Edit II: Is there an iPlaylist for Windows?

How'd you get the video game music?

These aren't in a specific group, but I uploaded the Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution cd about a month ago and anyone that enjoys Streetlight Manifesto will enjoy them as well! Same singer/guitarist/songwriter, same band, but with a string section added, so it sounds cool.

Their version of Here's to Life > Streetlight Manifesto's, which says a LOT.

1. Intro - This is a Call to Arms (http://www.savefile.com/files/109331)
2. Here's to Life (http://www.savefile.com/files/112123)
3. Dear Sergio: (http://www.savefile.com/files/112134)
4. It's a Wonderful Life (http://www.savefile.com/files/112159)
5. They Provide the Paint for the Picture-Perfect Masterpiece you will Paint on the Inside of your Eyelids (http://www.savefile.com/files/112188)

How'd you get the video game music?

I ripped it from the ROMs, mostly.

Thanks. And while looking it up on google, I found an archive of video game music, in case you didn't already know. (which I doubt)

Could someone post some Streetlight Manifesto? I've heard a lot of people on here say how good they are, but I haven't heard anything of theirs.

Is there any easy way to do this with windows? Like, export your song list as html or convert it easily to html? =\

I used winamp to make my list. Just add all your songs to your winamp library, make it sort your songs in alphabetcial order by artist, then play the first song on your list. Your playlist should then be added to your playist editor. After that, click misc, then misc again and then generate html playlist. Then save the html to your computer, and then go to freewebs.com to upload your playlist file online.

My List:

Download the BOTAR stuff I posted, it's got almost all the same members and they play the same music, for the most part.

Here's mine. Not all my files are tagged correctly, so the beginning is kind of a mess... but once you get a little way down, it's all good. :) I'm totally willing to share ANYTHING, too. Just ask.

Any way to make a list using Window Media Player? Or at least a link for a free Winamp download.

you should be able to get winamp free at winamp.com

Lawlz, Endy lykes Death Cab for Cutie!

Sorry, I know I'm not supposed to make fun of others' music tastes, but that was some seriously unexpected shit!

And for the record, I really like "We Looked Like Giants." Eh... no comment on their other stuff.

BTW, when you get the chance, could you upload or send a couple of John Zorn tunes? He's coming to town soon and I'd like to see whether I should go czech him out.

I'll post my playlist s00nz.

With who? His music changes quite a bit depending on who he's performing with. Sometimes it's fantastic and sometimes it almost unlistenable (though I know Endy would disagree).

It's John Zorn's Acoustic Masada.

Did anyone find a way of doing a list with WMP, or am i going to have to get winamp?

Get winamp. It's heaps better than wmp, anyway.

I used to have it, and i absolutley fucking hated it.

What version did you have? In my opinion, WMP has remained the same with only minor improvements, while winamp has vastly improved in the past few versions.

What did you dislike about winamp, and what do you like more about WMP?

Can't remember what version it was.

Winamp seems smaller and cramped for some reason, and i think the layout and colour schemes sucked.

WMP is easy to use, looks nice, can be used to watch videos on, comes already on the computer, has more updates (skins/visualisations etc)..

winamp is made to be smaller/cleaner by default, but you can easily expand it as big as full screen.

you were probably using an old version of winamp if you thought it was hard to use... you can watch videos on winamp, also. coming on the computer I guess is a bonus, but the download isn't that big of a wait. winamp actually has just as many if not more skins and visualizations. there's a really sweet one for winamp called milk drop, which is like 100x times cooler than normal visualizations... I dunno, it's fine to like either one better, but I don't think you gave winamp a fair shot. :-/

I have both Win amp and WMP on my pc, my brother swears by Win amp, I find it completely pointless and happily use WMP.

I use media player because my files open that way by default, I like how it looks, it comes with the computer, and most importantly it works, theres absolutely no reason for me to switch to winamp, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, as far as my needs, theres nothing winamp can do that media player can't.

I also find it's interface more conveniant, being able to select my playlist from inside, instead of having to keep the actual folders open and selecting "open with winamp"
Very pointless, I know it can be set so everything opens in win amp automatically, but even right there, more pointless bother.

Kind of defeated your own point there by answering my question which was clearly a sarcastic one. But nevermind.

I know i'm supposed to upload my own list before i request, but i'm still trying to find a way around making one on WMP, so meh.
