Christmas is almost here, so I decided to make this thread. I'm assuming that I'm not the only one who finds a lot of things about Christmas annoying.
Just list what you think the most annoying thing about Christmas is.

It seems that I'm the only one who loves this time of year. Everyone I talked to said Christmas sucks...

Christmas makes me happy- but I'm not sure why. Saying that I'm happy because I'm recieving gifts would sound awful, but I think that is. I would like it to change. I don't know, being with my family, enjoy, but I do that almost every day of the year, and every weekend with my far away family. About "God's birth", I don't care for it very much.

Most annoying thing about Christmas is the hype.
The constant playing of Christmas songs on radio/TV and Christmas advertisements, Though some of those are fine.
Seeing them 480,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,4 times a day is annoying.

The most annoying thing about Christmas is Christmas itself.

What an overblown, over rated, commercialized bunch of shit. It's not about family, or the Christians precious Jesus, or peace on Earth, or togetherness.

It's about who gets the most, what you get, and what corporation is making the most money off your greed.

Fuck Christmas.

Christmas songs being played 24/7 the day after Halloween. Christmas decorations being put up BEFORE Halloween. The month of even shittier than normal traffic everywhere but specifically around the malls (I drive past two malls on the way to/from work so my drive home takes twice as long as it should). Having to wait in ridiculously long lines at places like Wal-Mart when you're just buying a handful of things that you normally get with no problem.

But seriously, what is so wrong about Christmas? It's the time of year when you can completely relax, have fun before the glowing hearth, be happy with your family & friends & even strangers are good-humoured. Hardened criminals soften & read children fairy-tales in prison while munching on dark choccies. What more could one desire?

Alot of people don't relax because they have finals around Christmas, and tons of crimes are commited around Christmas. I also hate hearing nothing but Christmas songs and seeing nothing but god damn Christmas specials. They play the same movie they did last year 12 times in a row. Other then that I love Christmas.

The fact that we don't celebrate it. I want presents, dammit!

Actually it's not all about the presents. We don't do fun stuff on our holidays and children are annoying little bastards in out culture. They don't deserve to be happy. That's why everyone visits their elder relatives on holidays. It makes me both  and :( .

You know what you should do then? Tell your family that you no longer want presents or whatever else, and don't take part in that stuff.

As for me: the only part of Christmas I dislike is trying to buy stuff, like nieh said. I usually try to not go anywhere like malls during Christmas season just because they're way too crowded for me.

I dislike how poor it makes me. And, even worse, I feel awful when I don't have enough money to buy people things, yet they still give me presents. I feel like a complete jackass when I accept gifts but can't give any.

JohnnyNemesis
12-03-2006, 03:38 PM
Yeah; I'm usually in an even worse position, as I'm too poor to get anything for people in the first place, so I often end up making things. People usually like made things better anyway, but I sometimes feel corny when someone gives me like, two awesome DVDs for Christmas and I pull out this little mix CD with my handwriting on it and shit.

People waiting till after thanksgiving to go christmas shopping. They know damn well it's going to be busy at every store but they wait till after Thanksgiving anyways. I don't give a rats ass about the after thanksgiving sales. I only have one person left on my list and I've been done with the rest of the people since October. I drive past wall mart and I laugh at the dumbasses who's waiting in long lines and/or pushing and shoving people out of the way. It sickens me that so many people wait till December to start christmas shopping.

If there was no Christmas, Hanukkah would be the commercialized mess of the winter holidays. Kwanzaa, however, would still be in the fog of obscurity.

the fact you've been away for ages & suddenly turn up again around Christmas time?

& what Maria & Josh said. people who bitch about it, because it's cool to hate & it's controversial tru punx to hate something that's actually supposed to be a fun, happy, lovely time of the year. then the fact it's so incredibly commercialised. dude, Santa comes from Sinterklaas, so basically in the Netherlands we celebrate a holiday with the same old man twice. it's ridiculous how Sinterklaas traveled overseas & back, purely due to commercialisation.

The most annoying thing? Let me see... oh yes. Pseudo-controversial morons bitching about Christmas. It makes me sigh.

What I hate is when everyone around you EXPECTS you to like Christmas, like basically everyone in this thread. Not everyone who "bitches" about Christmas is a pseudo-controversial moron, and not everyone who doesnt like it wants to be true punx.

I didnt like Christmas for years. Because litterally nobody who I know celebrated it in a way I appriciated.

(though my family doesnt celebrate this holiday (like most holidays, really) and when I was younger I minded that a lot. Now I dont anymore.)

What I didnt like about the way it was celebrated was this:

What an overblown, over rated, commercialized bunch of shit.

It's about who gets the most, what you get, and what corporation is making the most money off your greed.

Most annoying thing about Christmas is the hype.

I dont agree with everything that hasnt been quoted (that's obvious, but it might not be to some of you), but I certainly agree with the above. I am not saying everyone is like that, but I garuntee that everyone AROUND ME is like that. That's why I never liked it.

...until I found someone who is not like how I just described :] My boyfriend likes Christmas because he wants to be with his family. And his family has the same state of mind. And this attitude torwards Christmas makes me really happy. So I decided that I want to be a part of it from now on.
I really enjoy making gifts because I seriously love making people happy with materialistic things (also other things, but the first one is easier to fullfill and the time makes it appropriate for me).

It's the time of year when you can completely relax, have fun before the glowing hearth, be happy with your family & friends & even strangers are good-humoured. Hardened criminals soften & read children fairy-tales in prison while munching on dark choccies. What more could one desire?

That's very, very ignorant. But I agree about the family/friends part.

also. i work in retail. and everyone that comes in to shop is so cranky because they've been stuck in lines and crowds and traffic all day and they dont want to wait in more lines...

That's so weird to hear! I work in retail as well and everyone is always SO NICE to me. Even after a 10h day at the store I could not say that anyone was cranky. Maybe I'm just really lucky, tho!

Now, what I actually find annoying:
- people who bitch about those who dont like christmas and generalize it to the extreme.
- people who only look for presents and then brag about what they got nonstop. i only mean those who obviously dont appriciate anything else about this holiday (i know too many of those).
- insane amounts of people on the streets. you can hardly find air to breath when you go downtown
- exessive use of decoration
- too.many.cookies. We'll all be fatties by the end of 2006. ;D

JoY
12-04-2006, 05:23 AM
hahaha, oh man, the way Nina's made a list, I have to agree with what she said.

but I explicitly said I hate it when people bitch about it, because it's cool to hate. do I get cookies? ;P remarks like; "oh, will have to spend time with my family & my family is boring & sucks & Christmas is boring & it sucks & family dinner is boring & it sucks, but at least I get presents", THAT I hate.

Vera
12-04-2006, 05:27 AM
I don't want to spend money on people I don't want to fucking spend time with (family on mother's side). Just the mere thought makes the hair in the back of head stand up. Christ.

You may think I'm a cold-hearted cow for thinking this way but family on mum's side? Fucked up. Weird indie movie fucked up. And I hate it and hate that I have to be in the middle of it, even if it's just once a year.

I always loved Christmas as a kid. It's lost its magic though as I grew up. I always wait and wait to get into that childish and bouncy Christmas mood, but somehow the holidays just fly past my head and seem sort of lonely. I don't like too much hype around it, I like it to be something that's between you and family. I'm inclined to think my excitement for Christmas will come back once I have kids. And the stupid hating on Christmas because it's cool to is stupid.

JoY
12-04-2006, 06:04 AM

I'm obviously a Christain and will always be one. But atleast Jewish Holidays don't have some gay random charector butting in. That's why I hate Christmas and Easter. Where the fuck are Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny in the bible? They need to get there own damn holiday.
Plus, I also hate the same stuff just about everyone else is also complaining about: Radio stations constantly playing boring Christmas songs and TV constantly having the same old Christmas specials.
But what really ruins Christmas is little kids being so over-excited that it's obligating(if that's a word).
Halloween and Valentines day suck too, just because there's really nothing worth celebrating on those days. Same with April Fools Day, but I don't think that counts as a holiday.
To me, the only decent holiday is Independance Day because I get to blow a bunch of shit up with fireworks on that day.

The above post is a little worrying, try to get out a little more man.

But yeah, to clarify, I just responded directly to the question "What is the most annoying thing about Christmas". The things I mentioned are more pet peeves than proper annoyance.
I fucking love Christmas, I have no problems with any family member, I enjoy sitting around the table and eating a proper Christmas dinner (All my family around the table eating at once?...yeah, literally once a year). I enjoy the Christmas atmosphere, ever notice how you can...feel Christmassy?

...and I won't lie, I enjoy the gifts part too.
