View Full Version : automatic log-out

Ever since the big update thingy I get automatically logged out whenever I haven't refreshed the page for a short amount of time. This can be quite irritating when writing a long post, then having to log in before you can submit. Or trying to edit a post, and then being told you don't have permission because suddenly you aren't logged in anymore. Yeah. Whatever though, I can live with it. The really annoying part is when it logs me out but still shows me on the main page as being logged in. So, I go to log in again only to discover I can't, because the bbs already thinks I am logged in. To fix it I have to close the window I'm using and sometimes delete all my cookies etc.

Anyone else have this problem, and/or know anyway around it?

It's never happened to me after "short times", only when I left the window open all afternoon and then realizing it's still open, situations like that; I don't have any idea how you could sort things out.

The same thing happened to me on another board, and I agree, it's really annoying. I don't know how to fix it though =/

I don't have any problems.

Of course this is a stupid thing to ask, but you do click the 'Remember me' box when you log in, right?

I click "Remember me", and it logs me out anyway. The only way I avoid getting logged out automatically is using the Firefox plugin "Reload Every" to reload every 5 minutes if I'm away from the forums for a long time.

I'd help you, but I don't think you're interested in historical data lololol obscure reference.

Seriously though, it's never happened to me. Get a better browser, whitey!

I don't get this whole historical data thing, so I'm going to assume it's not funny anyway.

You wouldn't care anyway.

Because it's historical data.

Huh, that's odd. That only happens to me when I haven't checked "Remember me". Does it keep you logged in if you leave the site and return?

I have the same problem, it can get pretty annoying.

Yes, it does, unless I've been away for a while. I think about 10 minutes.

What Jesse said.

You didn't have to post that. He already answered him.

Wrong, because ****** was asking me. He had no way of knowing my answer was the same as Jesse's, unless I posted saying so. Please don't be so pedantic with me in the future.

People generally disappear off the online list after 15 minutes. Maybe an idea would be to have the forums opened in two browsers. One of them for typing your message (if you need a longer amount of time) and the other one where you click on View Who's Online which will keep refreshing that page without you. It's stupid, I know, but maybe could work. Other than that, it's a weird problem you have.

That would be a LOOOOONG post.

Just because the act of thinking about anything for longer than 5 minutes is foreign to you doesn't mean it's weird for anyone else to do it.

And I've never had any problems with logouts. My browser basically keeps me logged in forever. I open up the forums and boom, logged in.

I switched to Firefox. No more problems. Why the hell had I been using IE for so long? It's a piece of crap.

You were communicating with us through IE all this time? How the fuck did we allow that to happen?

I do it all the time, because I multitask. I have multiple browsers and IMs open at once, so my posts often take a long time because I have more going on than just the post I'm writing. Also, sometimes I'll click "post reply" and then walk away from the computer for a while. It happens.

Bri, I do that too but didn't feel like explaining myself to Lodat.

Rick, I apologize.
