Each in our family of five had to buy 5 gifts for about 3 euros a piece. Not Gifts especially for someone, just gifts. • Georgia O'Keefe calendar—{insert Beavis and Butt-Head laughter here}
• Betsey Johnson watch
• Su Doku books (challenging but keeps my mind in shape)
• $100 cash (Sadly, it will be used for paying bills.)
• Cross-cut paper shredder—I need this!
• $50 gift card to Victoria's Secret
• Flannel jammies and slippers from Victoria's Secret—Wearing them right now!
• Celtic cross illustration by my mother
• Sketchbook and pencil set
• Cake serving set (prelude for the wedding)
• A DVD of old-school cartoons (I'm talking 1930s!)
• "The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy" by Tim Burton
• "Burton on Burton"—Now with foreword by Johnny Depp!
• "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" DVD
• $400 to buy a couch (The Martha Stewart book actually has tips for buing a couch. And the pictures the in-laws sent with the check were in the recommended styles for my lifestyle!)

I shall explain. I forgot about that bass I got early, and my dad surprised me with the amp and other things. The bass was a factory second (Fucked up battery door and a nick) so it only cost $250 instead of $550. Not that the money matters. So I'm happy enough.

Well I like him, and I really don't care if you like him or not.

You always do this and it's fucking annoying.

Everytime someone says they don't like something that you DO like, you respond saying that you like the thing in question and don't care whether we do or not.

You ALWAYS do this, even though 99.9% of the time no one's even fuckin' talking to you, so the truth is that WE don't care what YOU think of OUR opinions on the subject.

No one wants to change your opinion on anything, kid.

As far as some albums costing $22, 1565 is the right person to ask about that!

As far as some albums costing $22, 1565 is the right person to ask about that!

Damn right!

Did you happen to flip over the CD to see who put it out? Did it say it was Reprise Records, or Mute? (Note: it might say Reprise AND Mute) Depeche Mode is on Mute Records in the UK and Europe, and they're licensed out through Reprise in the US. If there's no Reprise logo at all and it's only Mute, then my friend, it costs $22 because it is an EU import. If there is a Reprise logo, then it best have been one of the remastered special editions with bonus DVD, or you totally got ripped off. Actually, that's still pretty steep even with a DVD, as the bonus DVD footage is, if I've heard correctly, pretty sparse.

Actually, I just looked up some Depeche CD prices--the Best Of vol. 1 is $22. While buying a best of might seem silly considering their Singles collection came out about 8 years ago and the only real addition to the whole oeuvre has been "Playing the Angel," but it is worth buying for the DVD alone. YES PLZ SANDWICH @ BAGEL ZONE NEXT TIME WE HANG OUT PLZ K??? THX K? thx.

And I'm still furious at the very existence of that Best-Of collection because the Singles collection charts their progress way better, the track sequence is fucking weird, and etc. But I bet the DVD rules too, even though it's missing a lot of kick-ass stuff that was already released on the DVD that accompanied the previous Singles collection. And like I said, NO SONGS FROM BLACK CELEBRATION!??!?!??!?!?!?! IHFE:KLJGHB:I FUCK YIFUD HGBI:OFDJ FUCK YOU FDIHUGDHGFD B UNACCPETABLE!

Grar.

Martyr kicks major ass though...

ps. If they wanted to make a true Best-Of, they should have thrown in some super popular and/or kickass non-single album tracks. "Halo", ne1? "Sacred"? "Something to Do"? "Lie To Me"? Heck, "Nothing" is super duper popular and was never released as a single...

I got Black Celebration on CD for 7 bucks brand new a few years back. Suhweet "Hey, we'll admit it, we're a shitty record store so buy some stuff from us" sale from Tower Records.

My record store buys albums from you. I love trading CDs there. I traded an old Yellowcard and old Switchfoot CD for Everything Goes Numb. Best trade I've ever made since trading two Pidgeys and a Psyduck for an Alakazam.

I just went out and made some purchases myself.
Brand New - Deja Entendu
Brand New - The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
Billy Talent - Billy Talent II

Billy Talent II, yes. Also, you know I don't have more than four songs on any of the Brand New albums? Tell me how they are and if they're worth checking out some more.

I didn't bother to check the label. However, the first time I saw the expensive CD was when it was thick and it read "special edition". I knew I didn't need a "special edition", so I just put it aside. Then, I found some that were just normal and were over twenty bucks. Thanks, it makes a lot more sense now.

Wally, I don't think you own enough CDs.

I'm working on it. What do you expect me to do? Just download the music for free on the internet? Haha, that's crazy.

Edit: I don't like greatest hits albums, so I didn't bother looking into it, but I noticed there were two "Best of..." or it might have been "Singles" Depeche Mode CDs. They both said "Volume 1", except one had a different color flower logo. I was really confused.

Martyr is rad, but I was disappointed to find out (on the DVD, lulz) that Martyr is actually not new and was actually a lead single contender for Playing the Angel but then they were like "um wait, actually, let's just not put it on the record at all."

The DVD interview footage includes what looks to be new footage of Vince Clarke talking about his time in DM. It is funny to me that, upon splitting, DM got a lot darker and Vince's projects more gay.

1979, I'd recommend getting the Best Of even though it's expensive because it will help bring you up to speed on DM very quickly. Plus videos! "Walking in My Shoes" has a video worth the $22 alone. But you can probably find music industry people selling their promos for a lot cheaper on half.com or something like that.

When I first heard "Martyr" I kind of assumed it was recorded for PtA, and I'm not surprised that I was right. I almost agree that it wouldn't fit well on that album, but it's similar enough stylistically to "John the Revelator" that could have fit nicely right after "The Sinner In Me".

And as for Vince Clarke, check out the songs Vince wrote for DM when he was with them; they're among the most openly gay tracks I've ever heard, ever. "Boys Say Go!" is gay enough, "Nodisco" is supergay, but holy God, NOTHING beats "What's Your Name?" Check the chorus out:

Hey you're such a pretty boy
Hey you're such a pretty boy
Hey you're such a pretty boy
You're so pretty

Actually, the chorus of "Boys Say Go!" IS worse...

Boys meet boys get together
Boys meet boys it's forever
Don't say no
Boys say go!

Good songs though, for the most part.

PS. Get the Singes 86>98 collection instead!

Vince is fucking fantastic like that. Though I think I like him best now as Andy Bell's fag hag. Someday maybe I'll let you borrow my Erasure DVD's so you can see what I'm talking about.
