Ok, driving to a gig the other week... Radio 1 (UK) played TKAA and I some of the lyrics were just... different. It wasn't a live version, but it was real different to the Americana album version. It was weird as. Anyone know what I'm on about?

I have an alternate version of TKAA, but the lyrics are 99% the same, I believe they only changed one sentence.

Do you remember any differences?

Something about the "brand new thing" part... What's the 99% version like?

There is a tropical version of TKAA, it was a hidden track on some Splinter CD's.

There's also a lounge version. And I LOVE the String Quartet version.

There is also the lounge version, but all the lyrics are the same. The whoa's are in different places though.

I noticed there's a slight difference at the sentence after "Jamie had a chance, well she really did"

At 1:42

Does anyone else see the difference?

*I'm listening to both versions.

Original
Jamie had a chance
Well she really did
Instead she dropped out
and had a couple of kids

Alternate
Jamie had a chance
Well she really did
Instead she got fat
and had a couple of kids

It's on the "Piece of Americana" promo sampler, Dexter changed it, 'cause people said it might offend fat people.. Where did you guys get string quartet versions and tropical version, there was like a bbc radio one recording which is this laid back thing.. but the rest?
oh well..

Also, dropping out and having a couple of kids makes more sense than getting fat and having a couple of kids, especially considering what the song as a whole is about.

Especially since having a couple of kids often makes one fat anyway. ;)

Hello. As Oxygene stated before it's from the "Piece of Americana" promo sampler. I didn't know that either though.

Tropical/Island version - Splinter CD-Extra
Lounge version - BBC Radio
String Quartet version - String Quartet Tribute To The Offspring album
Alternate lyrics - Piece of Americana

I think that's about right.

Isn't there a big band version as well? Or a marching band? One or the other.

I'm wonder about this string quartet thing. I've never heard it, and although I'm past my main Offspring phase, TKAA is a song I can always come back to.

I'll be nice tonight. (http://download.yousendit.com/6B2801F6745DC2C6) I guess I got it from Tijs' site, but I haven't listened to it for a while. It's cool every now and then though.
