Overworked & Underfucked

I've been listening to a lot of stand-up comics lately. Mitch Hedberg (R.I.P.) and Glenn Foster (That Canadian Guy) are my favourites so far. Anyone got any suggestions about who else I should start listening to?

I've always been partial to Lewis Black.

Is he the one on "The Daily Show?"

Glenn Foster is awesome-funny but i don't really like stand-up that much so...can't help you there, haha.

I've always been partial to Lewis Black.

He's a bit hit or miss, but when he's good he's awesome.

Dane Cook has some good stuff. His older stuff is superior.

I struggle to remember the names of comedians. I've heard some amazing ones, but couldn't for the life of me tell you who they are.

I used to be quite fond of Denis Leary when I was younger. Eventually I realized he was more just angry than actually funny, but he still has some good stuff. George Carlin could be said to be similar in a way.

As a general rule I find the Irish and Scottish to be hilarious at stand up comedy. Something about their accents and sense of timing.

Edit: I quite like Ron White sometimes, and I seem to remember Jim Breuer having at least one good show. Oh, and Jim Gaffigan.

Or you could just pick some randomly: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stand-up_comedians

I always laugh at a guy named Brian Reagan. I've just gotten into Harland Williams, too. My favorites are probably Bob Saget and Gilbert Gottfried.

EDIT: Ahh, it's Regan.

Yeah, I like Demetri Martin. His jokes are similar to Mitch Hedberg's style, but he has a drawing pad some of the time.

Does anybody else like Jeremy Hotz or Nikki Payne? He's the guy who has his hand by his mouth when he talks and she's a little short woman with a lisp.

Jeremy Hotz? That name sounds very familiar. Any specific jokes he's known for?

Um, not too sure. I'm not a big stand-up kind of person but he had his own special on Comedy Now and I laughed a good bit at him. Search Google sometime for some of his stuff. He's priceless. Some of it's more of a simple-minded humor though.

Yeah Russel Peters is damn funny. Jeff Foxworthy is another one of my favourites. My whole family loves Foxworthy, we like to sit at the cottage and get drunk and listen to his CDs.

"If someone yells 'hodown!' and your girlfriend hits the floor, you might be a redneck..."

Russell Peters is funny maybe the first 2 times you watch his stuff, if that. It's amusing without being truly memorable.

Vera
01-01-2007, 04:56 AM
Russell is hilarious, but has a problem shared by many "race" comedians... The stuff about race gets kind of old fast. Some of his stuff really requires some knowledge about Indian culture. In one set he parodied Bollywood, I laughed so hard I fucking died at it.

Random: My dad recorded some Kings of Comedy movie/stand up set and I watched it off his TiVo a few weekends back. I never knew Bernie Mac was such a killer comedian, I always thought he was just an actor.

Second: Anybody have any comedian recommendations? Preferrably whose stuff is available online, either legally or illegally, streaming video places preferred. I just need funny stuff to watch on my days off. :)

I'd recommend Eddie Izzard, i've been watching a lot of his stuff. If you don't feel like downloading anything, lots of his stuff is on youtube.

True. The only stuff of his I can remember off the top of my head though are when he describes how he scared Danny DeVito half to death while auditioning for Death to Smoochy and the bit where he and his band go to a Thai sex show and their drummer catches a banana or something that was flying at his head.

I love his bit about how he took the cab driver who was trying to sell him underage sex workers to the zoo.

I agree with basically everything you said except I am not sure who Demetri is and I haven't seen anything by Sara Silverman. Oh, and Dane Cook is over-rated.
