I've looked at different stuff online, but I'm at a loss as to which one to get;
does anyone know of any pedals that work with the computer where I can download/make my own effects and then use the same pedal to output into an amp? Some kind of crazy USB or Firewire thing.

I'm not sure EXACTLY what you mean but i think i get the idea. Line 6 makes this great (or so i've heard) pedal called the Pod XT Live. I think mrconeman has one so his input on this is more valuable than mine. Read up on it.

Yeah, I think Line 6 is the only company that makes stuff like that.

if you want a software you can try Guitar Rig 2, it comes along with a footpedal.

The V-AMP 2 has that function also.
