View Full Version : Help with +44 lyrics

In the song "baby, come on" by +44, these lyrics confuse me:

"The past is only the future with the lights on"

what i am confused with is, are they saying the future has the lights on? or the past has the lights on? a comma would be useful.

also, i don't quite get what they mean by this, is it saying that they are doomed to repeat the past?

what is your take on it?

A comma wouldn't make sense in that sentence. It seems pretty clear that he means that the past is equal to the future if the future had its lights on. It seems to mean that we can see much easier what's in the past than what's in the future.

Thanks for clearing it up a bit

btw, where i thought the comma might go is here:

"The past is only the future, with the lights on"

I know that's where you thought it should be, but it would be grammatically incorrect. There's no reason a comma should come before a preposition in that kind of situation.
Glad I could help, though.

See, i like it when i get a good response to a genuine question, instead of somthing like "OMMFG U N00BCAKE, U DUNO W()T IT MEANS!!!"

Once again, Thanks :)

Nah, I had to pull up the entire song's lyrics to get content. That line isn't exactly the most obvious.
