Thankfully, I can couple this with the good sense not to bet much money when I do play.

But honestly, aside from the first time I played, I've lost every game of poker I've ever been in.

Is anyone else in the same boat? Or on the other side of the poker scale?

I'm on the other side most of the times.;)

I've played Poker once in my life a few years ago, I can't remember what happened, and I forget the rules.
Jack Change it ftw

I play quite abit , i won like 35 pound off my dad and his mates afew weeks back. Overall i'm pretty good but there is, whatever anyone says, a portion of luck, bigger for some than others involved if you ever want to make money from it. In reality i guess alot of 'bad' players just don't get good hands.

i never really get to play for real. my friend goes to local games/tournaments and atlantic city/vegas often to play. he refuses to play with *me* because i won't play a game with a $100 buy-in. pft. i play online and do pretty well, but that's it.

No, 'bad' players unsuccessfully bluff on bad hands and/or scare everyone into folding whenever they have a good hand.

Poker is 50% luck and 50% skill. So even if you are a bad player you only suck half.;)

Poker is all luck. Betting is the skill.

I am just completely unable to make up my mind as to whether I should bluff or fold, and it's really obvious when I'm dithering.

EDIT - I rarely ever get a hand worth anything.

You shouldn't really bluff that much, once per 25-35 hands afew of the books i read on it suggest: are you sure you're not bluffing too often, or just not making enough from your good hands?

I bet you just played strip poker and Holly got you naked so now you're all le sad.

I, on the other hand, am pretty good. I don't play a lot, but when I do, I kick male ass :p

Females tend to do that.

The few games I've played I end up kicking ass the first few rounds and having about half the chips... and then slowly losing from that point on.

I'm the pits at poker, too. I'm slightly better at 21 (variant of blackjack I guess) but still I don't rock the ritz. I have not played for years though.

21 is easy. I don't know what it is, I just seem to completely miss something crucial in poker.

But blackjack's not hard, and I tend to win almost all the time when I play it.

I had a late poker session last night, sadly I lost. I actually prefer 5 card draw to texas hold'em, since it gives more scope for bluffing.

When I played I always made a profit. But we were all beginners except for one nerd. And I usually handled my alcohol better than some of them.

Poker is 50% luck and 50% skill.

Hell NO. I'd say 80 skill, 20 luck. In the long run that is.

I've been playing online since about 3 years back and I do pretty good. My worst enemy though is myself... I tend to lose my focus from time to time and that quality is kinda necessary to win.

I've been debating back and forth with myself the last hour if I'm really drunk or not and this post pretty much explains it all. I wouldn't write all this shit if I was sober.

ps: playing online is for queers. the difference between real poker and online is at least as great as the difference between fucking and cybering.

Yeah but if no one wants to fuck you the only option is to go cyber, right?

Strip poker is not real poker, since there's no incremental betting, bluffing, folding or raising involved. You cannot be "good" at strip poker, you can only be "lucky".

That's why women are only ever capable of winning at strip poker, and never at real poker.

edit ; Texas Hold'Em is for faggots. The correct way to play is five card draw, twos are wild.

I never said *I* played strip poker. I don't. Only the real deal.

T, don't bluff. Just do the math and play the cards. When you get comfortable at that, then you can start getting more creative.

Learn how to bet. Make sure you aren't betting too high and scaring people away, and make sure you aren't betting too low so everybody is calling you. And don't change the size of your bet depending on how good your hand is. If someone notices that you'll be in trouble. Unless of course you're trying to put out a fake tell, but if you suck at the game you don't want to be fucking with stuff like that.

I don't play often at all, but I'm ok.
