Azureus. I used to use tomato torrent for mac, after my HD died in my laptop decided to really try it and the speeds are much better on it.

I have to admit though, in a recent download someone with a bitcomet client was giving me 80kbps which was very nice, from that standpoint I wouldn't complain.

i'll tell you, i'm usually getting speeds of 120Kbs (low end) but it completely fucks my internet, i can barely run messenger, and it's a big no no to heavy sites (lots of content), my poor router must have a sore bumhole.

so i was thinking of using 2, one for when i want to use then net too, and Comet for when i'm not at it

maybe i should try Azureus again....

For me, Azureus is pretty slow but it's cool.

02-08-2007, 02:10 PM
Normally I use Azureus too, it's very easy and has some nice extra features. Azureus is pretty fast, sometimes I get speeds up to 700 kb/s.

Currently I'm using uTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/), since Windows Vista doesn't like Azureus. uTorrent is a great replacement though. At the moment I'm download with a steady speed of 130 kb/s.

ahh, i'm on Vista though, i guess Azereus is out of the question then

Tijs

Try it though, if it works for you I'm going to look into it some more. Be my guinea pig. I made the mistake of installing Azureus first, and Java after. Although I re-installed Azureus, it didn't work.

Don't you all think KB/s !? 1 BYTE = 8 bits (1B = 8b)

I'm using BitTorrent. It's a cute, little, skilful client. I used to have Azureus a long time ago but with a horrible internet so...

Bit comet is the best... it sucks the conection and you cannot use the internet explorer or the firefox while downloading, but uses less RAm than Azuerus... |uTorrent is also a good option...

If i didn't know this, i wouldn't be an IT Technician, that's why i was careful when using Kb and KB

Don't you all think KB/s !? 1 BYTE = 8 bits (1B = 8b)Obviously, that's what I meant too. But I don't like using capitals in the middle of a 'word'. Everyone knows what I mean.

Use Bearshare. P2P is so much easier.

Dear god... don't ever say viru-bearshare ever again

also, torrents are p2p

Zeall
02-09-2007, 09:48 AM
Huh? Never had a virus & I've been using bearshare for months on end. Of course I don't dld the porn stuff. I don't dld the files coming from limewire either.

well, it'll happen, it's just when that is the variable

cba = ?

Thanks for your help. You're the one who needs it & you're the one who gives it, I can see you're a nice brother, you're also a nice person.

I have to take my driving license on Monday so I must revise now, but some other day I'll bother myself with the literature & see how torrent works & what it has.

Cheers

Thanks :)

btw, cba = can't be arsed

good luck with the test

anyone had any experience with BitLord before?

Tijs
02-11-2007, 01:50 PM
Yeah I used it, after that I used uTorrent, and after that I used Azureus. Now I'm back to uTorrent, but I want to use Azureus again (did you try it on Vista?).

BitLord's alright, but it's not my favorite.

Duskygrin, here are the things i've found on torrentspy:

Three Musketeers - The film

http://torrentspy.com/torrent/920416/The_Three_Musketeers_1993_Xvid

Wuthering heights 1939

http://torrentspy.com/torrent/424277/Wuthering_Heights_1939

Dr Zhivago

there are a few, but they're all dead

Z

i can't search this seeing as the search box needs at least 3 letters to search for something

The count of monte-cristo

http://torrentspy.com/torrent/985637/The_Count_of_Monte_Cristo_2002_DVDRip_XviD_O_Demon oid_com_O_2185677_014

La Princesse de Clèves

nothing i'm afraid

Le Rouge & le Noir

nothing here either, maybe it's because they are french? i don't know of any french torrent sites at the minute

The most dangerous game

sorry, these are dead too

...

this is too inspecific for the search, it brings up all files with ... in them, i have no idea what this is either

these are all links which you must open with the Torrent client, then downloading will begin

Seeders = people who have it 100% and are sharing it with others (the more the better)
Downloaders/Peers = people who are both downloading and sharing (again, the more the better)

if you want to go ahead and use BitTorrent, and you need help with anything, just post back or PM people who posted in this thread

if you need anymore help

not just yet i'm afraid, i'm in the middle of dl-ing something of a big and undisclosed natureI was afraid of that too, when I switched from Azureus on XP, to uTorrent on Vista. I was downloading a 41GB torrent and several > 5GB torrents. They all finished downloading in the end successfully.

Zeall
02-11-2007, 03:10 PM
41GB? fuck me

what the hell was it? i'm only downloading Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

(great horror btw, bit confusing though)

Tijs

http://btjunkie.org/torrent?do=stat&id=2908f37e5c1592b95cf33b3f1ee9d82d4059a43af343

Took me a while to get it though, but sometimes it was downloading with speeds over 500 kB/s

Also, downloading the Simpsons season 1-17 was quite big as well, but I believe I downloaded that from seperate torrents. Also around 40GB.

Zeall
02-11-2007, 03:26 PM
Married with Children = Win

i'm just as bad a i suppose, 35GB Naruto and 22GB of Bleach, just all seperate, and several other series too

Tijs
02-11-2007, 03:28 PM
For me torrent is the best source for TV shows, that's for sure. My internet provider blocked downloading through newsgroups, but my brother's currently talking me into paying for newsgroups so we can download with http speed. I'd love that but I'm not sure if it's worth the money. Do you have any experience with newsgroups?

Zeall
02-11-2007, 03:38 PM
Sorry mate, never use them before, i suggest doing a bit of research on them, because i've heard (vaguely) that some have rediculously crap servers, so speeds are just as bad. Just have a look around for common newsgroups that are used often and have good reviews really (but if you're downloading stuff, then you obviously know to do the ground work yourself) :)

Tijs
02-11-2007, 03:45 PM
Yeah I heard mixed opinions/experiences about them, so I'm still not sure if I should do it. The thing is that you can find more rare stuff on there. Torrents are pretty vulnerable to popularity.

DeAtHsTaR
02-11-2007, 03:54 PM
I use utorrent.

Zeall
02-12-2007, 01:43 PM
Zeall? You did all this for me? I can't believe it! We've only barely talked & all, I mean, this is so kind, you're so unlike... French ppl! Not that we're not kind, but damn, not THAT kind assuredly.

Oh & Married with Children is the ultimate comedy show. I watched it in French 5 years ago methinks & I had great laughs from it.

no worries about not getting Z & the French stuff. Twas to be expected.

Damn, can I embrace you? Since my driving failure this morn I thought everybody had turned into an arsehole. Apparently not.

I can't talk any further I've got loads of stuff to do still. Take care coco. & a big MERCI. *cries for joy*

P.S.: do I need a torrent client?

No problem, i like to help people :)

Yes,you do need a torrent client, the ones i know of (and have been discussed here) are:

BitTornado
BitComet
BitTorrent
BitLord
Azureus

i guess the most popular one here is Azureus, but have a read on each one and see which applies to you, they are all free as well

anyone got any other clients to add to the list?

Zeall
02-12-2007, 01:52 PM
so what I did, I used utorrent... dld'd the three musketeers from your link, it's now in a new line up in utorrent... it says its 700 Mo but the downloading doesn't seem to begin I don't know what is wrong... *thinks hard*

give it a second to find the seeds and peers (a screenshot could be good though:)) also, are you using a router?

Zeall
02-12-2007, 02:06 PM
i tried it, and it works fine for me, when you get back, i can talk you through setting up your client with you, to ge the best downloaad speeds for you

(also, for anyone else out there, here's a complete list of all the torrent clients:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_BitTorrent_software)

Nothing wrong with uTorrent :-)

That's right, it says 852.6 kB/s

Zeall
02-16-2007, 06:29 AM
You must have a ridiculously hight tit-for-tat ratio

are you just seeding constantly? nice work

Tijs
02-16-2007, 06:36 AM
Those torrents seeding are torrents downloaded from dimeadozen.org. It's one of those things you have to subscribe for. I usually don't seed torrents downloaded from isohunt or sites like that.

H1T_That
02-22-2007, 11:25 AM

Grabbal

Mine's running at 62 right now.. usually it is around 100 or something, but that's mostly on the really new files that everyone are downloading..

Killboy

I still have a modem (kidding).

Anyway... Why don't you use Emule, I'm pretty happy with it, I've found a lotta stuff there and its speed is quite good.

Tijs
02-23-2007, 12:20 PM
Torrents might be a bit slow, but you can find sooo much more on there. That's why I prefer it over eMule. And if I want to download a song, which I hardly ever do anymore, I use Limewire or Google to find it.

Killboy
02-23-2007, 08:58 PM
Well, talking from my very own experience, Emule's turned out to be very reliable in every sense; from speed to finding every file I need.
I tested BitTorrent once, and didn't worked too well finding my stuff, whereas when I worked with Emule.... well, as I said, I am happy so far.
