If anyone from my country makes a song about a city which is not in our country it will end up getting lynched, I guess.

But there's a band called They Might be Giants or something, I don't know where they are from. They have a lovely song called İstanbul, not Constantinople. I love it.

Pelot D'Hennebont.

I don't have a recording of it, but it's a summer song to sing with my family when we're all drunk. Shouldn't be hard to find.

For instance, I'm pretty sure there must be immortal songs about Chicago, Frisco & New-York, but I can't pinpoint any of them... would you care to light my candle? You kiddin' me? You've never heard Sinatra's "New York, New York (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1j9EAERrhg)"?

I'm sure Nashville's got plenty of songs written about 'er, but I'm not a big country fan, so I miss most of 'em. I did, however, come across a an interesting video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwH8DCkVwEo), however.

It's so alien to me that someone didn't know that. I think every Irish man woman and child could recite the lyrics entirely.
Glad you liked it though.

edit:
Not so much about a city, but this song and video wins my whole life.

Lots of places in Ohio have been written about, but I don't live near any of them.

Also, I'd like to mention Sufjan Stevens' "Chicago". It's not a "let's praise Chicago!!" song, but it's a song that uses Chicago as a backdrop for a story. And it's a really good song.

In France, there is this fabulous song (to me at any rate) about les Champs-Elysées (so I suppose that counts as a song about Paris): Aux Champs-Elysées (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWtPMjH3Hpg&mode=related&search=)

In Greece there are lots of songs about Athens & Thessaloniki, here's one I dug out on youtube: S'anazito stin Thessaloniki (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUdWxWnXtXU)

There is also the Amsterdam song by Jacques Brel: Dans le port d'Amsterdam (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njGv24sNaxE)

So, any beautiful city songs from your place?

Sur le pont d' avignon :P

Sweet Home Alabama anyone?

Theres a song about Newcastle, a city close to where i live that has a song. I can't seem to find it anywhere though.

The Newcastle football team runs out to it at home matches.
