This deservs its own thread. Van Canto (http://www.vancanto.de/)

Five singers, one drummer. It's basically power metal... a capella. Plus drums. You can listen to clips on the site, download the full version of the song The Mission (http://www.general-schallplatten.de/digishop/vancanto/full/vancanto_astormtocome_03_themission.mp3) or just watch the video of the same song on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6F9aJuHJE80). The important thing is that you listen. Now.

I didn't really like it. Novelty is all it has going for it.

Nothing special, but it could've been much worse.

For what it's worth, it was pretty well executed, but not something I'd listen to much.

I actually enjoyed it. But I couldn't help but laugh all the time I was watching it.

I don't like it, but it's certainly entertaining.

It was pretty fun listen too. Although, their arm/hand expressions kept me smirking through the video for some reason. Oh, and that girl was fucking hot.

Yes.

Yes!

Do you have any other tracks?

No!

However, a wise man once said "As usual torrents fail where projectw succeeds. I have the full album and music video in a rar on my desktop..Interested PM Me." He was Merciless and a member of The Specialists forums (http://forums.specialistsmod.net/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2170). Contact him on MSN if you want. Maybe you need to tell him Defender of the Faith sent you  Maybe you also need to give him nudes, since I don't really know him, but still. Alternatively, you could check out that projectw thing for yourself.

Also, I'm currently fucking addicted to the lead singer's voice. I wish I could sing like that. He's got like... the perfect voice.

edit: ... and the Battery cover will be included in the next TMO Podcast (http://feeds.feedburner.com/tmopodcast). For those interested.
edit: no wait, it's in the one from Feb 20. It has a nice "guitar solo" in it... heh. It confuses me but it's cool. But overall the song wasn't very good imo though, so it's not worth downloading. But if you do, it's the last song. FYI.

Hmm, similar in a way to another band whose name escapes me. I think it started with an "X" or something, I haven't listened to them in a year or so, but they were basically metal with violins and cellos. Can't remember if they had a drummer or not, they weren't a capella, but were pretty great anyway. Too bad they stooped to playing a few Metallica covers at live shows, but they sure had fucking talent anyway.

I liked this, thanks for the link Mannen. It's cheesy, but what power-metal isn't?! It's pretty-much the whole point.

Say what you will, but that band have tremendous vocal skill. Fuck the cheesiness, it's irrelevant.

Were you thinking of Apocalyptica? They had a drummer in their later stuff. They also started off with the Metallica covers.

Apocalyptica, yeah, that's the one. Don't know where I got the "X" from, meh.

Yeah, those guys are awesome. I'm known to have a pretty deep-seated hated of Metallica nowadays, but that can be overlooked. Since these guys kick so much ass. I'll forgive them for the covers.

They also did the Angel theme song. Pretty kickass theme, if you ask me.

Really? I didn't know that. Sweet.

Although that show went downhill real quickly. It wasn't Buffy or Firefly, that's for sure.

Wait, these guys (and stone cold fox) cover Battery? For serious? dude.

Yes.

And no. They did a cover of the Metallica song called Battery. But according to Wikipedia there's also a band called Battery, so... maybe you meant the band?

And I'm glad people like it!

I did mean the band, I fucking love that band. But okay, the Metallica song is alright too.

I just want to point out that it's an A'Capella metal band, not a capella metal band. Just to make the title a little clearer.

Mannen som blev en gris
02-24-2007, 11:05 AM
Oh right, that's probably how it's written. At the site it said "a capella" so I just assumed it was correct.

Mods, feel free to change.

edit: actually, Wikipedia says it's a cappella, often misspelled as a capella. But yeah, a'cappella would make the title a little clearer.

I lol'd at their myspace.

For all those who like melodic, epic and powerful metal songs
For all those who like Metallica just as much as Nightwish
For all those who think the climax of a Blind Guardian concert is to sing along the chorus
For all those, who are interested in mature men who like to sing "rakka-takka" through a guitar amplifier, only to imitate fat rhythm guitars
For all those who want to be heroesThe last three are great.

I wonder if they sing guitar solos a la Strong Bad.

"meedely meedely meedely meedely MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!"

Yeah that list is funny, particularly the last one.

Hah, yeah, I saw those too, but at the main site. The Blind Guardian one is true. "Valhaaaaaaaaaalaaaaaaaaaa... deliverance. Why've you ever forgotten meeee valhaaaaaaaalaaaaa". Although at the same time slightly ironic since the chorus is my least favourite part of The Mission.

How far into the podcast is the cover of Battery on? I'm not exactly complaining about what is on atm but I wanna just skip to that song. xD

Heh, awesome. Apparently a Blind Guardian concert is like one of the most epic things you'll ever live to see. Fuck them, though, they were here like last month but only played Sydney and Melbourne.

I like this band already, if they like Guardian.
