Oh, come on! What is it?

You lay on your stomach and then push yourself up with your arms.

Jakebert
03-17-2007, 08:52 AM
Oh, come on! What is it?

This is gonna be tricky to describe, but I'll give it a shot:

It's an exercise where kind of lay on your stomach, but your feet and arms are holding you a few inches off the ground. Then you lower yourself until you're close to the ground, but not touching. Then push your self back up.

That probably didn't help, but I didn't know describing a push up would be so difficult.

When I was in highschool, we had to put a sponge under our chest and do pushups. In order for one to count, you had to actually press the sponge down a little bit... fucking sucked.

I'm not sure about "growing" after teenage years. Woman bodybuilders' boobs tend to look very manly. Pure muscle. If you have boobs like Sam, I'm sure you can make them more tight. If nothing's helping, make a baby. ;)

It shouldn't be like that if you do them right.

http://www.baseops.net/basictraining/pushup1.jpg
Were you going down all the way like that?

Also, your knees won't hurt so much if you still keep your feet on the ground, but also have your knees touching. I use my knees, but don't place all my weight on them. That makes them a little harder to do, and my knees don't hurt so bad.

Okay. I knew you meant you were going to do girl pushups.... not regular ones. I just meant, a lot of people just go partway down, or they mostly go down using their hips/back, and not so much with their arms. That's what the photo was for. I still think it's hard with just knees, but I dunno. I kind of use my feet a little, too, so maybe that's why. Or maybe you're just buffer than I. :(

When I worked out regularly I usually done between 100 and 200 at a time.

But now I'm terribly out of shape and can only manage 30-45 or so.

I need to start working out again...

What about sit-ups, everyone? I used to do 500 every few days.

Pushups target mostly your chest.

03-18-2007, 08:44 AM
That actually brings up a good question: what's a good lifting exercise that works on your chest? I have a weight machine in my basement that I've been using, and even though I lost about 30-40 points over the past year, I still have a slight pair of man-boobs that I can't seem to get rid of.

You don't have to go all the way down to be effective. Since it really targets the chest/shoulder-to-chest ligaments and such, once you're about 3/4 of the way down it's mostly just your arms doing work; same on the way back up.

I didn't know bench presses worked your chest. I've been doing them and they only seem to be helping my arms. Meh, maybe I'm doing them wrong.

Bench press should be targeting your chest and secondarily your triceps. However, if you haven't been working out for too long you won't feel it much in your chest because you won't be able to do enough weight and all your stabilizing muscles will be weak.
If you've been doing it for a while, your grip is too close. The wider your grip is, the more your chest is targeted and the less your triceps are targeted.

Yeah, I've only been lifting for about a month, and it's not really all that tough of a workout, so those 2 probably add up. Most of my exercise comes from running, just because I enjoy running a lot more than anything else.
