So, I've gotten bored with the games I have on my emulator and I want some new ones.

I'm looking for some kind of simple, easy, and fun platformer, similar to Donkey Kong Country or Super Mario World. Note: I have all of the Super Mario games, DKC games, and Kirby games, so those are already out. Any suggestions?

Also, no stupid video game elitism or console fanboy wars. Srsly, don't be ghey.

srsly, don't be ghey.

Edit: There's Super Ghouls ‘N Ghosts, Mortal Kombat II, Super Street Fighter II - The New Challengers, Super Castlevania IV, The Legend Of Zelda - A Link To The Past , Secret Of Mana, etc.

Tactics Ogre / Crono Trigger / Mario RPG / Final Fantasy III / Actraiser 1 / Super Metroid

if you want more, tell me.

I remember liking EVO when I was younger, that was kind of a platformer. I can't think of many others you haven't already mentioned though.

I never got the big deal with that game. It's alright, but it's not as amazing as I've been told.

It's not a platformer, but check out Shin Megami Tensei. Itz sekz.

Lodat's list of SNES games is fucking awesome. Good calls, kiddo.

Also check out Breath of Fire 1 and 2, Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems (I don't like the game all that much, but it's a decent sidescroller), and Super Punch Out.

I like Bubsy and Tiny Toons a lot.

And Tetris Attack!!!!! But that's not a platform game. It's great though.

this thread reeks of fail. you know why? it's missed the two greatest games on that system ever:

Shaq-Fu
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker

Well, Super Ghouls & Ghosts is pretty-much the most difficult videogame ever published, so might not be a good idea to get that one. It's not...impossible, but damn near close.

You seem to have most of the quality straight-up platformers (first-party ones, anyway), but definitely get Super Metroid (has shooting elements on top of a platformer structure) and BattleToads (platformer/sidescrolling fighter). Maximum Carnage is another good one (again, beat-'em-up elements prevail) although that particular game isn't to everyone's tastes.

But Super Metroid and Battletoads. You need them.

Yeah I'm gonna second Super Metroid.

You'd also have a lot of fun doing Final Fantasy 6, or the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I also want to second Super Castlevania.

Try "The Mask". It's a long time since I tried it (had it), but from what I remember it was pretty darn good.

Super Bomberman, Wario's Woods, Super Metroid and BOB were all excellent games. Wario's Woods takes a bit of getting used to, but is excellent fun once you get a hang of it.

I have a snes, but i don't use it anymore. I still love mario cart though, one of the best games on the snes.

First off, someone beat the shit out of me for failing to mention Super Metroid. Seriously, I deserve a brick in the skull for overlooking one of, IMO, the Top 10 video games of all time on any system ever.

You're getting that confused with Ghosts & Goblins on the NES. That one was so hard that the sequel, which was Super Ghouls & Ghosts on the SNES, was considerably more manageable as a conscious decision on Capcom's part. Ghosts & Goblins is the most difficult game ever, Super Ghouls & Ghosts is just a tough one. I've beaten it several times though.

It's not. I can't explain it though. You just have to take my word for it. It's fucking amazing. Or better yet, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Megami_Tensei

And Moonwalker is on the Genesis.

Harvest Moon is a favorite of mine. Building and caring for your own virtual farm in 2D is great! Also, like was previously suggested, Super Bomberman and Super Metroid.

oh, and Star Ocean kicks ass too.
Radical Dreamers as well. Although its more like a novel than a game.

Bomberman on the Snes is without doubt the greatest multi-player experience available.
I'd list games to get, but they've pretty much all been mentioned. Super Metriod and Super Mario world are my two favorite games of the console.

*beats the shit out of JN* Heh. Less so for the fact that you forgot it (that's understandable, these things happen), but for your underestimation of the game as "top 10 best ever". Fuck, man, try top 2 or 3.

*hangs head in shame* Yes, jeez. I have been schooled. Thanks for the correction, Sensi Nemesis. Fuck, I can't believe I missed that. Yeah, the SNES one was difficult, but it's the NES one I'm thinking of. Damn.

Yeah. There's a fan-translation of Shin Megami Tensei, and I don't think there is one of II because I didn't get one off romhustler and they have every modification as well as the original in their zip files.

Pfff you must suck shit at using a keyboard, since no other game requires the use of the L and R so fucking frequently. Hell, I don't think there is another game that even requires the L and R.

JohnnyNemesis
03-19-2007, 09:35 PM
L and R?! What the--what the fuck are you babbling on about? Fuck L and R, I'm talking about being able to use the D-Pad in a way that makes any sense whatsoever.

ruroken
03-19-2007, 09:41 PM
Yeah, its simple. Is your keyboard fucked up or something?

My setup:

a = x
s = y
d = a
f = b
right
left
up
down
ctrl = L
shift = R

index on left
middle on down
ring on right

move your middle easily to press up

JohnnyNemesis
03-19-2007, 10:09 PM
I know that you can set it up that way, but playing any console game on anything other than a pad of some sort is fucking retarded.
