This album is very intriguing. I'd love to hear Offspring songs does as bluegrass, as I particularly enjoy both things. :) And yes, they did choose some good songs to cover.

2) american idiot is not a classic, no matter how much you like it.

3) is the same bluegrass group doing this offspring album?

OK, I agree a little - replace CLASSIC with EXCELLENT SONG

Yep - it is the same bluegrass group. They seem just to release cover albums of successful artists. Easy way to make money I guess

Llamas

Well, it's no different than the string tribute.

From that clip, it doesn't sound like this bluegrass group is anything special. They sound like a very generic bluegrass group. But it's not fair to judge from one clip. I do really love bluegrass, but it has to be done well. So we'll see.

Lol, I listened to the samples and first 4 tracks seemed really shit to me, but I thought the rest is great. Especially Gone Away, Gotta Get Away, Gotta Get Away, Jennifer Lost the War, Can't Repeat and Staring At the Sun. And I totally didn't recognized Something To Believe In musically.

Samsam is an idiot. When done right, bluegrass is about a million times better than punk rock, because at the end of the day, 95% of punk rock is some 30 year old who still has the intelligence level of a 15 year old.

It seems like I'm the only one who was unmoved by those two. Gotta Get Away is my favorite so far. Jennifer Lost The War lends itself really well to bluegrass (they did a good job of being convincing), but I didn't enjoy listening to it much :(

I liked Gone Away, and Hit That is making me lol heartily right now.

I'm loving Staring at the Sun, haha. I skipped Can't Repeat since I always consider the original "TKAA (part 2)" and thus, was not interested.

Jennifer Lost the War sounds like an original bluegrass song. It's probably the best on here as far as good bluegrass music goes, but I also don't enjoy it as much as others.

Gotta Get Away was weird for me, because they changed the chord progressions and I thought it sounded funny against the vocals.

I am also loving Staring at the Sun. And I also skipped Can't Repeat. I'll come back to it later.

Word. And Something to Believe In is also surprisingly awesome.

I hope we get part 2 of this somewhere down the line, the same way there are two Bluegrass tributes to Metallica. I wanna hear a bluegrass cover of "Nitro (Youth Energy)"!

Llamas
05-01-2007, 04:19 PM
more lolz at hit that! I never thought I'd hear a country hick saying "I know you wanna hit that".

I'm excited for something to believe in. It's my favorite song on Smash.

Songs I liked:
All I Want
Want You Bad
Gone Away
Gotta Get Away
Staring at the Sun
Hit That

Songs I don't like:
the Kids Aren't Alright
Jennifer Lost the War
Can't Repeat
Self Esteem
Something to Believe In.

Kind of weird considering I love The Kids Aren't Alright, Jennifer Lost the War, Self Esteem and Something to Believe In.

I'll probably never listen to this album again.

Bazza

I'll probably never listen to this album again.

I think the fact that it has some sort of "novelty" might deter from the fact that it is actually a decent piece of work. Then again at the same time if you're not into Bluegrass then you aren't going to want to listen to more. I like it and will listen to it a few more times to get a better feel for it.

Llamas
05-01-2007, 04:32 PM
To me, you have to like the artist that is covering, not the music that's being covered, in order to like a cover album. If you're not into bluegrass, you won't like a bluegrass album, no matter how much you love the songs that they're playing. This is perfect for me, because I love both bluegrass and the Offspring. It's wonderful. :)
