Don't Dutch construction workers need to know how to scuba dive?

No, why would i wanne scuba dive? It's not like were going to build towns under the water, we are however going to build towns on the water.

Exactly why he asked that question. Somebody got to look for places to put supports and shit on the ocean floor.

ehmm, yeah over here thats called ''solderen'' a truck sends a large hollow steel rod down into the ground to find out how deep the sandlayer is. the sandlayer beeing the only strong enough layer that can support buildings, they do that on the water to.

But the concept of buildings on the water is still in its developing stage.

well yeah, in the Netherlands it's in construction inevitable you're going to have to work with water, a whole lot of water, in consideration. but an ocean floor.. there's not even an ocean nearby.

That reminds me, Have you ever seen a 25 meter concrete foundation pole disapear in one second? Me neether but it's possible, I've heard story's about it, when the solderen isn't done corectlly and they start to hamer to pole into the ground and there's a crapton of groundwater just below the surface. That thing just rams straight dowb after just one hit.

I've also read about a really cool new design for houses, it's a mix between a dam and a house. i don't think it's really going to work but it's cool.

JoY

you do realise "solderen" = a Dutch word, right? ;p because you're using it now like everyone here should be able to understand it. I have no idea what it'd translate to, either. "solderen & lassen", I've never had to know/use those words in another language. I'll probably go all; "oooh right", when someone says what it is in English, like I've probably heard it before on those cuhrayzee Discovery programs, but I couldn't come up with it myself if I'd have to use it.

the subject doesn't intrigue me a whole lot, but it sounds rather interesting non the less.

The ocean floor thing was just me trying to say the first layer of rock shit. I'm not good with terms. Either way, I was still wrong =P

Nah, I'm just playing. Seriously though, congrats.

Also I don't understand the "building things underwater" bit.

Whiplash
04-11-2007, 10:44 AM
What is there not to understand?

The Netherlands is a tiny country with 16 million people, We have to many people, and we also have allot of lake's and river's. So the logical solution is build on the water.

Edit;

These apartment buildings are called the five sfinxes:

It's because the entire nation of the Netherlands is below sea-level. Hence all the jokes.

So that's why everyone from Holland has gills... Fucking mutts.

I could never understand people who get happy when they get a job. What is so great about working anyway?

I've been really happy about a few jobs I've gotten, because they were jobs I really, really loved. I was never excited when I got my jobs at the two pizza places, or Target, or telecounseling... but man, the two garden centers and entomology lab had me so excited. I really adored all three of those jobs extremely. Two of them I actually looked forward to going to work each day.
