until Silver Daggers - New High & Ord was released. The year started off with promise from Holy Molar - Cavity Search (sample (http://www.csulb.edu/~plecnik/holy_molar%20-%20cavity_search.mp3)), but quickly deteriorated with the latest releases from The Locust and XBXRX (both not even worth having on my laptop, so no samples for you). But suddenly it's worth living again thanks to Silver Daggers! (worth living for) (http://www.csulb.edu/~plecnik/09-silver_daggers-ghosted-its.mp3)

Albums I'm looking forward to in 2007:
new Man Man (hooray!)
new Tomahawk (seems interesting, it's going to be the band re-working traditional native american songs, Patton said it's a "quiet" album instead of their typical dark and noisy but straight-forward hard-rock thing)
new Secret Chiefs 3 (though it's been pushed out so much I'm not sure it'll be out before the end of the year)
new Pinback (though I hope it's not as overproduced as their last album was)
new Reel Big Fish
new Streetlight Manifesto

Is there any new Dr. Doctor stuff in the works? They seem to have vanished from the face of the earth.

Dr. Doctor need to play Philly sometime. I still feel bad about the fact that I only have mp3s of their EP and never actually paid for it.

Have you ever listened to the Secret Chiefs? It basically started as Mr. Bungle without Patton and they kind of went off from there. They lean mostly towards soundtrack-ish middle eastern stuff mixed with techno but do all kinds of stuff (their song "Resurrection Day Soundtrack: Hot Pursuit in Eagles' Nest" sounds almost like a groovier Painkiller track). You'd probably like some of their songs but I'd be surprised if you like a full album of theirs. They're also doing something with John Zorn that was originally scheduled for release this month but I see no signs of it.

is there stuff anything like "desert search for techno allah"?

They normally use a lot more actual middle eastern instruments as opposed to just middle eastern tuned guitar. And a lot of it's a bit more mellow by comparison but some of it's a bit similar to that song.

For me, it's Carry Stress in the Jaw followed by Desert Search. Then, probably Merry Go Bye-Bye because it's fun to have people listen to the first minute and a half then freak the fuck out when he starts screaming and it gets all metallll. I haven't listened to that cd in months. Hm.

what's with justin not doing the vocals (or if that's him, doing all retarded)? and most of the music just feels too bland and slow and kinda deathmetally (but not really).

I think it is Justin singing on most of it. I really got kind of a death metal vibe from some of the songs. The vocals about halfway through AOTKPTA are just fucking ridiculous, though I do like the music in the begging. There is a song or two that I like but all in all the vocals are horrible and the music is a lot slower then I expected.

Resurrection Day Soundtrack (http://download.yousendit.com/A0A73DE97DF381F7) from their first album but it's the only song they've done like that.

Book T: Waves of Blood (http://download.yousendit.com/B9B4282A3F709337)
Jãbalqã (http://download.yousendit.com/5B379AEE7E869B8C)
From their second album. They have two other "Book T" songs on it that are in kind of the same style, so if you like that I can upload the other two.

Horsemen of the Invisable (http://download.yousendit.com/F7E491557FF34306)
Knights of Damcar (http://download.yousendit.com/977424F81F658144)
Both from their third album, Book M, which is the closest thing they've done to a straight middle eastern sounding album the whole way through.

I'm not in the mood to get anything from their fourth album right now, but it's part of a trilogy (part two was SUPPOSED to come out earlier this year) where the band takes on 7 different identities (their own little sub-bands complete with their own band names who are all releasing their own 7" singles as well as some full length albums) with 7 distinct styles ranging from middle eastern music to death metal. They've only shown 6 of the sub-bands so far though.

I think that Das Oath's EP was better. Not sure that came out this year though.
