I know we've done this in the past, but I felt like doing it again, especially now that I have high-speed internet and can watch full Youtube videos.

Post links to some of your favorite live cover versions of songs. Or just list them off or whatever, but videos and audio would be appreciated. I'll get things started with a video of one of the most overrated indie bands ever doing a surprisingly good cover of one of my favorite songs:

Death Cab For Cutie- Palmcorder Yajna (Mountain Goats cover) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2GonkJ0uPM&mode=related&search=)

I got no Youtube links. But off the top of my head, here are my favorite cover songs:

No Use For a Name - Enjoy The Silence (Depeche Mode)
Failure - Enjoy The Silence (Depeche Mode)
In Flames - Everything Counts (Depeche Mode)
Dope - You Spin Me Right Round (Dead or Alive)
Scary Kids Scaring Kids - Losing My Religion (REM)

Scary Kids Scaring Kids - Losing My Religion (REM)
This reminds me of an old Youtube video that I saw. It was Graveworm (a death metal band) covering Losing My Religion and their version was playing over R.E.M.'s video for the song, and it was some of the most freaky awesome shit ever.

"I THOUGHT THAT I HEARD YOU CRYING. I THOUGHT THAT I HEARD YOU SCREAM. I THINK I THOUGHT I SAW YOU DIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEE."

I disliked that a lot, especially compared to some of the other R.E.M. covers I've heard. As much as I dislike Motion City Soundtrack, I have to admit that they did a great version of "Pop Song 89".

The Number Twelve Looks Like You's cover of My Sharona makes the original sound even worse.

Here's a video that's really just audio:

I know most people don't think it's such a big deal (if they've even ever heard it), but I really like Rise Against's cover of Built to Last by Sick of It All. They put more energy into it and, hey look, actual singing! It makes the original sound boring.

the only exceptionally good cover i can think of at the moment, that is not Afi, is The Blood Brothers version of Under Pressure. It is more entertaining then the original in my opinion and it's most certainly different.

Failure - Enjoy The Silence (Depeche Mode)

Amazing cover! It's so monotone and yet amazing.

Graveworm's "Losing My Religion" is actually pretty excellent. Also, Better Than Ezra's "Laid" (by James).

I really, really think this is a lovely rendition of "Umbrella". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMB6YOWzQMY

This is a fun version of the Cars' "Just What I Needed"... I don't like it more than the original, but it's good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZF_7yAFPwsM

And of course, Alanis's "cover" of "My Humps" :P haha (I realize it's a parody and not a cover, but I seriously think it's awesome) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZF_7yAFPwsM

My taste in covers is really boring because I like the covers that everyone else likes. I like Metallica's cover of "Turn the Page" probably better than any of their original songs and I can listen to the Chili Peppers' "Higher Ground" all day. KoRn's "Word Up" is pretty sweet too.

I also like:

Blink-182- Another Girl, Another Planet (The Only Ones)
AFI- Don't Change (INXS)
Sponge- Isolation (John Lennon)
Lucky Boys Confusion- Anything, Anything (Dramarama)
Foo Fighters- Down in the Park (Gary Numan)

The Blood Brothers' cover of "Under Pressure" (Queen and David Bowie) is interesting. It's worth hearing. I definitely don't like it as much as the original. But it's exactly what you'd expect: they just made it into a Blood Brothers song. That's just what they did.

BlackBlack - Skulls (Misfits) is pretty good.

i seem to recall hyping the shit out of #12's cover of my sharona a few years back.

Crispin Glover - These Boots are Made for Walking is a fannnnnntastic cover. creepy as fuck.

I like Billy Talent's cover of Ever Fallen In Love, originally by the Buzzcocks (I think). I've never heard the original, but the cover sounds really good.

I disagree, I think Morrissey's original version runs circles around it. Absolutely love their cover of INXS's "Don't Change" though.

Here's a good cover of Modern Man (Bad Religion) by The Dead Fish.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=P20_esuWtto&mode=related&search=

And here's an acoustic cover of yet another Bad Religion song, Skyscraper, by Jack Hanson. He's got a lot of covers on his Youtube page, of Bad Religion, Social Distortion, The Bates, and a lot of other bands.

EDIT:
There's also this great piano cover of Skyscraper, you can find it here:

http://www.myspace.com/predinburgh

He's also got 2 original songs on there that are pretty good, but that's unrelated.

Local H's version of "Toxic" is suprisingly good:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eT69nguAWk

As Joshbait, I'll throw in Botch doing "Rock Lobster":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvJ450CHouk

And for my money, The Clash do the best version of "Pressure Drop" imaginable, probably the only example of a band actually improving on an already-excellent original I can be bothered to think of right now.

You sent me that a while back, and had forgotten about it. But yes, totally agreed.

Edit: Found another cover of "Word Up", this one's by Gun. It's excellent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VlSE4OpKDU

Obadiah Parker's "Hey Ya (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_o0Xi2kd0k)" cover is really good. This coming from a guy that normally dislikes "one-guy-with-an-acoustic-guitar" songs.

If you start getting really pissed off, just fast foward to, like, 2:15 or so. It gets even funnier.
