View Full Version : Any other trumpets?

since a week, I'm playing trumpet in a jazzband. We play songs like Down for Double and I'm beginning to see the light. I'm the first trumpet, so that means that I have to play solo's too. And that's my problem a bit:
can anyone give me a tip of how to play good trumpet solo's? Dunno whether there are many trumpets hanging around at Offspring forum - it's a bit weird, playing trumpet and having Offspring as favourite band - but I'd appreciate it very much. :)

I don't play trumpet, but I do play guitar in my school's jazz band.

What you want to do is figure out which notes are in the key(s) of the song you're playing. Once you've determined which notes are safe, try playing little melodies of your own that last throughout the solo.

Also: download Miles Davis' cd "Kind Of Blue." It's fucking amazing.

I ask every trumpeter I meet if they can play/ like Blues, Ska and Reggae. Why? Because I can.

Okay thanks! Miles Davis is my idol, but in my country, he's not that popular that I can just walk into a shop and say: "Hey! Miles Davis and make it snappy!" but I will sure try to find the CD you told me about. Thank you very much :)
