This is sort of like a "favorite CD" thread, but a little different. If you could only take 5 CDs with you for the rest of your life, which 5 would you take?

Depeche Mode - A Broken Frame
The Offspring - Ignition
1208 - Feedback Is Payback
Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor
Divag - Atari Songs

Yup.

This is actually pretty easy for me, because I've thought this through before.

First and foremost is Sing The Sorrow by AFI. I still think it's their best, and it's their only one I can listen through the whole way (The Art Of Drowning comes very close, though).

Second is probably Does This Look Infected? By Sum 41. Like Sing The Sorrow, it's the only CD by the band I can listen through the whole way.

Thirdly would be Crisis by Alexisonfire. I'd probably skip one song once in a while, but it's still my favorite from them.

And, of course, both Billy Talent CDs. Duh.

Some runners up are:
Alkaline Trio - Crimson
The Fall of Troy - Doppelganger
Rise Against - The Sufferer and the Witness
Green Day - Insomniac

Enix Belmont

Offspring - Ixnay on the Hombre
Offspring - Americana
Offspring - Conspiracy of one
Offspring - Splinter
Sum 41 - Underclass Hero

....Yup

Runner ups are Art of Drowning and Sing the Sorrow from AFI, Empire Strikes first from bad religion, Demon Days from the gorillaz, The razors edge from ACDC, War on errorism from NOFX, every other offspring album, and a few others.

The Clash - London Calling
Bomb The Music Industry - Goodbye Cool World
Arrogant Sons of Bitches - Three Cheers For Disappointment

All of you would honestly rather take "Sing the Sorrow" over "Black Sails..."? What?? There is no emoticon for vertigo, is there? There's also not a spork. http://www.roomwithamoose.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/spork.gif I swear I thought it was a standard vBulletin issue...

I'm with Enix on the NoFX, but I'm taking "The Decline". Also ...

"Relationship of Command" - At the Drive-In
"The Blue Album" - Weezer
"1,039 Smoothed...[ect]." - Green Day
"Animals" - Pink Floyd

The bigger question being, "Why not take Pink Floyd."

BuddyHolly

The Lawrence Arms - Oh Calcutta
Sublime - Sublime

We're talking real albums.

I think I'd have to take:
Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway
Garbage - V 2.0
Better Than Ezra - Greatest Hits
Matt Nathanson - Beneath These Fireworks

and then #5 would be between the following:
REM - Automatic for the People
REM - New Adventures in Hi-Fi
Lucky Boys Confusion - Throwing the Game
John Mellencamp - Scarecrow
Jimmy Eat World - Futures

opivy21
09-12-2007, 05:36 AM
Minutemen - Double Nickels On the Dime
John Fahey - The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death
The Oblivians - Soul Food
Richard Hell and the Voidoids - Blank Generation
Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein

My top 5 five favorite albums would be different, but since the question asked for the only 5 that you could have for the rest of your life, I had to have a little diversity.

The five most meaningful and emotive CD's I own, which I'll happily have for the rest of my life are:

The Ataris - Blue Skies, Broken Hearts... Next 12 Exits
Travis - The Man Who
The Living End - The Living End
Queens of the Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf
Muse - Muse

Although it was very hard choosing just five as Grace (Jeff Buckley), Good Mourning (Alkaline Trio), Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Beatles), Americana (Offspring), Art of Drowning (AFI), Progress (Rx Bandits), Shadows Collide With People (John Frusciante), The Marshall Mathers EP (Eminem), You've Come A Long Way, Baby (Fatboy Slim) and Cheer Up (Reel Big Fish - although it gets a little boring near the end, it starts wonderfully) all mean lots to me in varied ways.

Which reminds me, I haven't listened to The Man Who in ages. Too long.

ARGH! I want to listen to them all, now!

No matter what I take I am going to get tired of it eventually. This is a rough list, I usually spend a ton of time on stuff like this.

Afi - Art of Drowning
Justice - "†"
Kanye West - Graduation
Das Oath - Das Oath
The Chinese Stars - Listen to Your Left Brain

The last one was a really difficult choice. There are a tone of albums I wanted to put there like Ladytron's "Witching Hour" or Richee's "Cassette is the New Vinyl".
