EP's. I don't know a hell of a lot about them, I don't have too many of them, and I'd like to hear your opinions on them. Do you know of any amazingly classic EP's the rank up there with the best albums ever? I'm jyst curious to learn more about them.

The only EP's I own are "Everything Is" by Neutral Milk Hotel and "Chronic Town" by R.E.M.

Shock Stars (Shock Stars), They Make Beer Commercials Like This (Minus the Bear), and All Hallow's (AFI) are all pretty fantastic.

My favorite EPs are probably:

A Call To Arms - Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution
Burst & Bloom - Cursive
The Acoustic EP - Against Me!
To Leave Or Die In Long Island - Bomb The Music Industry!
All Hallows - AFI

I have no idea if To Leave Or Die counts; it's 10 songs, but was originally supposed to be less. Either way, EPs are generally pretty awesome, but only when bands are perfectionists and make sure every song is awesome because there are so few.

I don't own a lot either, but these two are great, especially the Tiger Army one.

Tiger Army - The Early Years
Boy Sets Fire - Live for Today

I'm going to third the AFI one. (It must be really good eh?)

Das Oath - Das Oath
Afi - All Hallows Eve
Afi - A Fire Inside (<3 Hanging Garden cover.)
The Chinese Stars - Turbo Mattress
Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution - A Call to Arms

These are the only ones I can think of. Unless Animals counts, but I don't think it's really an ep.

Speaking of Animals (which doesn't count)

Primus - Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People

I haven't listened to Primus in forever, but the idea of listening to Rapscallion has me hearkening back to 10th grade.

EPs are a good thing when bands don't use them as dumping grounds for remixes & song experiments too crappy to make their regular albums or stopgap releases to tide over fans until their next full-length (who the fuck wants to buy 3 live tracks and one new song?). Here are a few that I consider essential:

Mission of Burma - Signals, Calls & Marches
At The Drive-In - Vaya
Butthole Surfers - Widowermaker!
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead - The Secret of Elena's Tomb
Cave In - Tides of Tomorrow
Planes Mistaken for Stars - s/t
Rites of Spring - All Through a Life
Wipers - Youth of America

Has anyone heard the SYR EP's from Sonic Youth? I've been told that they're really good, but I've only heard a few songs.

But yeah, BREAK, I agree. I hate those bands that put out an EP with every album that consists of alternate versions of songs from the album.
