For reals. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071017/ap_en_tv/colbert_president)

So, what are your thoughts? There are so many possibilities surrounding this. For starters - is it real? How real? Which party? Will he accept donations? Will his show have to be blacked out in South Carolina? Will he get to debate? Mainly though, all I can think at the moment is "awesome".

This makes life quite a bit more interesting.

Three words: jumping the shark.

Good luck all the same, Steven!

I'm pretty sure it's just a joke, possibly a reference to when Michael Savage announced he was running for president, then slowly backed out because he is "too smart to run for president".

What? He didn't announce that he was running for President. I watched Tuesday's show. He just said that he was running for something like 'the Son of South Carolina', or something like that.

"The Son of South Carolina" means the President of the United States of America. Dumbass.

No it doesn't. Why on Earth would you think that? In the future, if you're going to insult someone's intelligence, please first ensure that 1) you're right and 2) you're actually smarter than the person you're insulting.

South Carolina is one of the first four states with a primary [that counts - Florida and Michigan are also holing early primaries, but their votes aren't actually going to be counted, because the American political system is insane], and thus is one of the most important primary races. It's a joke/publicity stunt, but he's still running for president.

The way he phrased it on TDS was so funny and deceptive, though. Like, "I am announcing that I am considering about maybe announcing my decision ...on a more prestigious show."

Not a word-to-word quote but the phrasing was highly amusing and made me go, "wait ..what" for a second.
