I know space rock and desert rock aren't the same thing, but personally I think they have a lot in common. (Note to those that don't know genre terms: desert rock is a very mellow, distant cousin of stoner metal)

ANYWAY, I've been listening to a lot of space rock lately and want some suggestions. So far, here's what I've been listening to:

Zombi
Hidria Spacefolk
Yawning Man
Sun Dial
Ozric Tenticles

Basically, I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions of bands on the lines of these guys? Thanks in advance.

The final countdown is not space rock.

Anyway, I'll upload a mix of stuff in a bit. Right now I'm a tad busy.

get some Fatso Jetson, Unida, Nebula and Ten East

that should satisfy you for some time. I'm sorry I can't help you with uploading any of it.

Yawning Man

Yawning Man rocks!

Unida isn't really what I'm looking for. Unida falls in the "Stoner metal" category to me, which is more driven bass-y, blues-y rock music. Space rock/desert rock is more trippy and mellow. Think Yawning Man or "Space Cadet" by Kyuss.

then scrap nebula and fatso jetson too. ten east is pretty mellow though, so you should still check 'em out.

Fatso Jetson has a connection to Kyuss, right?

yeah, pretty much everyone from the desert rock scene were connected somehow back then, but they don't sound taht similar

The only thing I can come up with, besides them playing together at shows, is that Josh Homme produced their album "Cruel and Delicious". the cool thing about them though is that they have a guy playing sax, which isn't the most common instrument in this type of rock.

Oh yeah, Brant Bjork played guitar with them for a while.

I saw Brant Bjork live. Brant Bjork and the Bros.

To this date they are the worst live band I have ever seen in my life.

Things like this just make me shake my head in disbelief at the ridiculous proliferation of genres.

I listened to your mix. It was OK. I like the really fucked-up psychedelic/bad acid trip stuff better myself.

Do you listen to any Hawkwind, Chrome or Helios Creed? I can upload some if you're interested. Meat Puppets II is classic desert rock, but it probably has nothing in common with the bands you have in mind. Sun Ra is a real space cadet, but he's not rock.

I've heard one or two Hawkind songs and liked what I heard. Haven't heard the others, though. Feel free to up anything that you think I might like...even if it's not what I'm looking for, I like getting into new stuff.

Meat Puppets II has been on my list of stuff to check out for a while now, I've just never gotten around to it.

The Hawkwind album is a live one, but it jams. Chrome are sort of a post-punk Hawkwind, but more sorta proto-industrial and HIGHLY recommended. Helios Creed is an ex-member of Chrome on the solo tip. He's one of those guys that does the same thing over and over, but that means if you like one of his albums, you should like them all.

Hawkwind - Space Ritual (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L8A3V7L2)

Chrome - Blood On The Moon + Eternity (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=hlozs4jh)
Chrome - Half Machine Lip Moves + Alien Soundtracks (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ypheb6o3)

Helios Creed - Planet X (http://www.mediafire.com/?mt5gxgjf0be)

Thanks man. I'll let you know what I think about them after I get a chance to listen.

EDIT: My campus blocks Megaupload, so if you could re-up those on sendspace or something, I'd really appreciate it. If you can't or don't have time though, it's cool and I understand.
