I know there are at least a couple fans here... she's releasing a new album this spring... her last two were pretty bland/safe. So I haven't really been anticipating new stuff from her. Then I found these songs on youtube:
Not As We (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Amv6tg_Khi4&feature=related)
Versions of Violence (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKNJb_lF0-A)
At least in these two songs, it sounds like she's challenging herself a bit more than she's done in the last 7 years or so. I'm kinda starting to look forward to the new album... anyone else heard any of her new songs? I heard that "Not as We" was in a new episode of House.

edit: really, the best thing she's done in the 2000's has been My Humps (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W91sqAs-_-g).
I also just stumbled across her covering Guerilla Radio (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1JJo7BvHcc)
Kinda made me wtf a lot. But I think I like what she did with it.

I love that she made the song completely her own instead of trying to reproduce it. nice find!

I don't really listen to Alanis Morisette, but I have to say that I see her as one of the most gifted female vocalists ever. She has a really beautiful voice.

haha, I really can't imagine how terrible it would be if Alanis tried to "rap" the song like Zach did. But yeah, I love how it sounds like her own song. You can't even really tell that it's Guerilla Radio until the chorus.

And I love her voice. I can understand why a lot of people choose not to listen to her, but I think her voice is phenomenal and so unique. :)

She did this because it was at the release of The Night Watchman's (Tom Morello of RATM) CD release party. You've probably already pieced this together, but I thought I'd mention it for the others.

Her new stuff is kinda cool. I dig it, although I'm not a big fan. I can see my sister buying the album though. She loves Alanis. I guess I'll hear some more then .

I think I blindly expected the Guerilla Radio cover to be great because Alanis is great.

But that was horrible in every way imaginable.

Yeah, I know :) I thought that was kinda cool, actually. Kind of a cool tribute.

Listening to it.

Haha, okay, that's just me being a smartass. But without delving too deep into the whole thing, the way she sang the song (especially the verses) was just skin-crawlingly corny/cheesy/lame. That was my main gripe, but everything was just poor; the band, the pacing/style of the cover, etc.

Hmm, the only part I could possibly agree with is that how she sings the verses sort of cheesy. I like the style and pace... and well her band has never been a group of people known for their amazing talent, so I'm not here to judge them... I like how she interpreted the song, though.
