Sufjan Stevens -Seven Swans

I never really saw this as depressing. Excellent album though. One of my favorite musical memories is driving through a snowstorm listening to "The Dress Looks Nice On You".

Bright Eyes - Lifted Or The Story Is In The Soil, Keep Your Ear To The Ground
Cursive - Domestica
Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - Etiquette
Jets To Brazil - Orange Rhyming Dictionary
Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy
Cat Power - Moon Pix

I wouldn't really consider The Mountain Goats all that depressing, but I would definitely group them into a playlist with the above bands.

The Mountain Goats aren't depressing as a whole, but "Get Lonely" is one of the bleakest albums I've heard in a long time. It's one of the few "break up" albums that I've actually been able to relate to because it's realistic and not cheesy pop music break up lyrics.

One to the right

Most of John Frusciante's solo albums could probably be classified as quite depressing but I like them anyways.

Bad Astronaut – Twelve Small Steps One Giant Disappointment

It was essentially finished and dedicated to their drummer who committed suicide before he could help complete the album. An amazing record, but it’s pretty damn emotional/ sad.

Metallica - No Leaf Clover.
"Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, was just a freight train coming your way"

Depressing but still awesome.

The New Pornographers - "Adventures in Solitude"
Scissor Sisters - "Land of a Thousand Words"
Jimmy Eat World - "Kill"

Holy shit good stuff.

I normally can't stand depressing music, but I love a LOT of Linkin' Park, and their whole theme is depressing, as you know. "Hate Me" by Blue October is a good, good song as well. Just skip past the long, boring intro.

Vienna Teng - Passage. The beginning actually : "I died in a car crash two days ago I Was unrecognizable When they pulled me from the gears"

I know there are others, but that's the one that came to mind when I read the thread's title.
