umm this is pretty much the greatest thing ever: fuse is airing an 8 part documentary series on NOFX's recent world tour. April 15th, 10 pm can't come fast enough. Here's videos and all that good stuff: http://fuse.tv/nofx-ecard/

So what you're saying is that God exists and he's punishing everyone for being horrible, horrible sinners?

NOFX on tv? SELLOUTZ.

I think this tv show has got nothing to do with selling out. Just read something about it on their official website. How anyway could NOFX, the kings of not-selling-out, do such thing as sell out? ;)

If they're not sellouts, then how do you know who they are?

A day may come when the television has good music, when we can hear quality tunes with our friends and break the wall of shitty sound, but it is not this day

Many hours of music that many people can enjoy and experience, when the dominance of horrible music ends, but it is not this day

This day we suffer. Thanks to the horrible people behind music television. I beg you not to listen, fans of quality music!

i was really, really bored.

I don't think I even have Muse on my TV. Judging from the replies, I have no reason to be disappointed.

So, basically a tv show about how shit George W Bush is, then? Wonderful stuff.

I really can't stand Fat Mike. For someone who preaches tolerance and stuff, he's one of the most arrogent, close-minded people making music today outside of Toby Keith.

I agree that Fat Mike is annoying, but can you elaborate on that? I've never paid him enough attention to really know much about him aside from the "political", "Bush sux, lolz!" lyrics that could've been written by a 12 year old.

I think their lyrics are more sophisticated than just that. It is true that there might be a little too much Bush-bashing in their latter albums, but you arent looking at their lyrics more deeply. I really do not think they are forcing their opinion to anyone although one may think of it.

There's a lot of stuff. On the most recent album, there's a song about how all midwesterners are fat, lazy, and stupid, and how about all Christians are intolerant homophobes. Which wouldn't be so bad if the song wasn't talking about how intolerance is bad.

The other big one that bugs me is that during the Warped Tour, he constantly talked about how stupid the Christian bands on the tour were because they believe in God, and basically came off as a 12 year old trying to piss off his Christian parents.

Bad religion isn't preachy: they are THE punk band nowadays, along with offspring

Meh, i'm actually somewhat interested in this. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that i seem to be getting into NoFx more as I age, but from the trailer/clips posted online this does seem interesting. I don't have Fuse, so i guess i'll have to wait for a torrent, or most likely the DVD.

you cannot be serious, bad religion is the definition of preachy. not to mention that half of their songs sound EXACTLY THE SAME. face it, punk is dead. or in a coma until further notice.

I know, its strange isn't it? I'm no "trupunx4life" or anything, but as i get older, I just find a lot of non-punk/ska music just seems to bore me (still, I do listen other music outside of those genres).

Then you're a bit sad.

I've never understood this need for a lot of people to break music down into tiny sub-genres, and then let people know that they like industrial ska-jazz but those assholes who are industrial jazz-ska are so complete fucking selloutz and I hate them (until 6 months from now when I completely change my mind).

Like what you like. If you like NOFX, cool. If you don't, cool. Defining your musical tastes by worshipping a single genre is kinda lame.

Jakebert
04-14-2008, 06:33 AM
I can understand it to an extent. It's good to be able to describe a band's sound in a concise, simple way. But at the same time, people do get out of hand with it. Punk and metal are the worst when it comes to obnoxious sub-genres.

One thing that bugs me is when lyrics get factored into what makes a genre. Two bands sound exactly alike, but since one is singing about anarchy, they're anarcho-punk, not hardcore.

dff_punk
04-14-2008, 06:49 AM
I also don't like the need of some people to name every music style. That's why I say I like generally fast rock music. Not some psychadelic punk-techno-urban-bluegrass...

Oh didn't know this, should be good. Their live shows are usually amateurishly good/funny so if it includes some live shit even better. I still give a new record by them a few spins in the car, good music to drive by.
Don't really care if it's preachy (they could always switch back to songs about lesbianism, girls, or whatever dumb subject), they hardly take themselves seriously and i like the bias. Nothing wrong with some organized religion bashing.
