ok.. here it goes, just had a..... discussion (if you can call i that) who's the best rock singer out of the following (biased boards i know but try and be truthful)

04-20-2008, 02:51 PM
Aren't there supposed to be some names after the phrase "out of the following:.." ? :p

04-20-2008, 02:53 PM
There should be, but it doesn't matter, the only acceptable answer is Robert Plant.

04-20-2008, 03:02 PM
I thought Freddie Mercury was statistically the best singer. So I've heard.

The GOD-tard in me says Dexter Holland, but I have to go with Mike Ness! That dude's voice is just amazing!

Mike Rowe (10)

Lose the suit, grab some boots, and get a dirty job!

My personal favorite is Scott Weiland.

A lot of people think Mike Patton is the best, not only for his huge range, but for the versatility in his voice. So I'm gonna go with Mike Patton.

I doubt that

Is freddie mercury, or maybe sammy haggar behind freddie mercury

In the current rock scene, I would have to go with Mathew Bellamy (Muse). He has one of the most dynamic voices around today.

04-20-2008, 08:40 PM
Of all time I might have to go with Kurt Cobain. Though I really like the singer from Foo Fighters, maybe even Daron from System of a Down.

most of those answering "dexter" know next to nothing outside of punk.

04-21-2008, 01:44 PM
this is getting a little harsh on dexter, his vocal range is impressive and to slate him and say jim morrison is a joke in itself, i love jim morrison... nice voice, damn good poet but best singer? there was'nt much range on it was there?

04-21-2008, 02:17 PM
Dexter can sing better than he gets credit for, I guess. But he's not even close to in the running for best singer.

I'd like to mention Jeff Buckley. Now that's a fuckin' vocal range.

04-21-2008, 02:46 PM
Jeff Buckley was awesome, but there was a quality to his voice that got a little annoying after a while.

I love Matt Bellamy's voice - it's awesome. I also enjoy the guy from QOTSA's voice, but not enough to call him the best.

I think you have to consider to what extent people use and challenge their voices, so Freddie Mercury is definitely on that list as well.

04-27-2008, 01:32 PM
Dexter Holland? Definitely!

04-27-2008, 03:26 PM
You guys are stupid.

It's Miranda Cosgrove. :o

04-27-2008, 05:23 PM
I'd also like to mention David Gilmour. More known for his guitar playing, sure, but the guy can sing.

04-27-2008, 07:16 PM
I can't believe I didn't put Sam Beam on my list.

Depends on the criteria.

My favorite in terms of pure singing ability, Marvin Gaye.
The first 30 seconds of this song contain the single most incredible male vocal performance I've ever heard (followed by the rest of the song, which is nearly just as good): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18TLHhhHZCA
My favorite female singer, Julie Christmas of Made Out of Babies and Battle of Mice.
Her style is warped. People compare her to PJ Harvey, Björk, etc., but it's her own. Even her cutesy "baby talk" moments are unsettling. Sounds like she'd claw your eyes out, or coo a little lullaby into your ear while you bled to death. Video:
Lastly my vote for most unique/scariest vocalist, Eugene Robinson of Oxbow.
A big, burly-ass black dude who WILL kick your ass if you fuck with him at a show? Who often sounds like a cross between a elderly retarded man, a dying elephant, and a homeless street preacher? Yes, please. Makes Patton sound like a pussy.

05-01-2008, 05:02 PM
Dexter Holland? Definitely!
