View Full Version : Radio Songs You're Unable to Hate.

Generally when I turn on the radio, I'm struck by a reduced version of the indie-nerd (because I am not an indie-nerd) complex - there's nothing I like on, or everything just leaves me indifferent.

But, rare as my radio listening has been over the last few years, occasionally I just turn it on and there's a song I can't help liking. It's not often, but ever since I've been a kid it's just occasionally happened. The kind of song that has an impact on you when you first hear it on the radio, and then the type of song that you realize, years later, that you can still listen to without cringing or lame nostalgia.

I think my first one was probably Bodies by Drowning Pool. I know (or am under the impression that) people absolutely hate this song, but I can't help but truly enjoy it. It's what metal would be if it modeled itself after pop songs, and so the song is both heavy(ish) and ridiculously catchy. That was sometime in the seventh grade, and I was just being driven around by my mother through the streets of Taipei when it came on. I guess it didn't hurt that my CD collection was limited to Limp Bizkit and the Backstreet Boys.

Next up was probably Nickelback's How You Remind Me. I don't even know why I like this song since, like anybody who's anybody, I hate Nickelback. But I still won't turn this song off.

More recently, though, was probably the year Gnarls Barkley's 'Crazy' hit the airwaves. I nearly stopped listening to CDs altogether, and for once I didn't mind the radio being on in the car. It was a good time.

What radio songs do you find yourselves unable to hate?

I totally understand you about Nickelback's song.

Can't think about anything right now. Katy Perry is blowing my mind! :D

Ashlee Simpson's "Outta My Head" gets constant airplay on my iTunes. I think that counts.

Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart is the only one I can really think of.

It happens pretty often I just can't seem to think of any songs.

Oh, and Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance.

I forgot, I discovered Hellogoodbye - Here (In Your Arms) through the radio.

Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance.

Seriously, can I just reiterate how good this song is? How do you follow up one of the worst (or, rather, my least favorite) singles of the past few decades (Sugar, We're Going Down) with something this unbelievably awesome? I like, and I'm also a loser for being three years late on it.

As for radio songs I'm unable to hate:

-Most of Sean Paul's entire discography
-A good chunk of Rihanna's singles
-Most Pearl Jam singles (don't care much for Jeremy, but Alive and Black are so good that I get choked up when I sing along)
-Korn - Falling Away From Me

NIN-Closer
Foo Fighters- Let it Die (IMO, all of their singles since In Your Honor were complete crap, but holy crap, they hit the nail right on the head with this one)
Whatever that new Death cab for Cutie song is
Anything by Tesla
Anything by Styx
Linkin Park- Given Up

There are more, but I can't think of any at the moment.

The Offspring - Hammerhead and You're Gonna Go Far, Kid
Bad Religion - New Dark Ages
Flobots - Handlebars
Linkin Park - What I've Done
Nine Inch Nails - Discipline
Weezer - Pork and Beans
Shinedown - Devour
Why must California radio be so awesome? I never hear any of these songs over here.

I'd also like to say that I can enjoy pretty much any Metallica song I hear on the radio (or Rock Band), but I'll never download any of their albums.
