God damn, that's an amazing setlist, and freakin BEAHEADED?!?!?!!. Really glad you guys enjoyed the show. I hope their own headlining club shows are more reflective of this setlist. How did Trust In You go down live?

Anyways, have a great night out, and drink a pint for me!

Agreed (with Jack), and It's interesting to see how much of Americana they've kept. It isn't really the fan-favourite album but they know which songs to call upon from it. Something from every album too; great to see.

oh man... Awesome set list... just pure awesome!

They need to do club shows in SoCal again :) Enough with the club shows in paris!

awesome that you got to meet the band tijs (still something I haven't done :)), and good to hear they were joking between every song, at KROQ's show and the one in santa barbara the next night they seemed so worried about getting a decent set list in that they didn't do much banter at all.

IMHO club shows are always better, since its much for intimate compared to a festival with 30 000 people. It gives the band a chance to relax and interact with their fans, at it seems like this show was a perfect example of that.

Unnatural Disaster
06-10-2008, 04:41 PM
i've been told they rarely play their older songs, which i think is a shame, because they have a great past. how often do they play the following:

dirty magic, LAPD, meaning of life, smash, session, no hero, burn it up, one fine day ?

edit: final question, what songs are a mainstay in their setlist, apart from Self Esteem and Bad Habit?

1. Not very often

2. Come Out and Play, Pretty Fly, Gotta Get Away, The Kids Aren't Alright, Can't Get My Head Around You, Why Don't You Get A Job, Hammerhead (now), Gone Away, All I Want

hshduppsnt
06-10-2008, 04:43 PM
the meaning of life got played a lot during the ixnay tour, but its been gone since. same with mota. (they would play these two songs one after the other). there is a cool version of it from rockpalast 1997.

At Summersonic, the night before they debuted Hammerhead, they had Mota in its spot, so, while not likely, they randomly seem to throw it in. But yeah, you're pretty much spot on.

I'm not ever gonna be completely satisfied till I hear Blackball live though...
(yeah I know... don't say it...)

i hope for more WTFs in every setlist this tour. :D

exactly, I'd love for them to mix it up...
and just hope that my unlucky streak doesn't cause me to miss certain songs (which I'm almost certain it Will)

Jack-UK
06-10-2008, 04:51 PM
Being blunt here.. i think they NEED to keep mixing it up... i dont know, some of the live videos ive seen they just don't seem to have so much passion for it anymore.. i remember reading a review about one of the recent gigs saying that it was as if 'they just got up on stage, played their album and walked off'.

Paris sounds like it was great though, and i hope they keep mixing it up and keep the passion, because boy, the gigs they did in the 90s (particularly late 90s) had so much passion and energy! Im hoping the new album will give them a kickstart too! :D

Tijs is probably still on his train (dropped him off at the train station an hour ago or so), so lets go with what I remember:

Random backstage offspring info:
-Greg actually arrived at the airport bit before 7pm, that's why the show started at like 8.45 instead of 8 I guess. Playing with a jetlag. Mighty Greg.
-The show was first going to be held in Amsterdam, but they couldn't find a good date for it
-Warren will play with the offspring till they don't want him anymore.
-When waiting to go backstage. Saw some guy and girl waiting there too. Tijs goes: you two from france? Guy: no from Hungary. Me: you're oxy? He: Yeah, how do you know?

Soundcheck info:
- While we were waiting outside to enter, they were soundchecking. Since it's a tiny venue you could hear the sound. They played million miles away and session

Random quotes/funny moments during the show (writing from memory so brief and not the exact words they used):
-Noodles: Lets play some old shit, like stuff from ten years ago. That's like ixnay or so. Here's a song oxygene wrote for us, he's somewhere in the crowd *starts beheaded*
-Noodles: Now here's a song Pete wrote for us. Dexter: Yeah, super nice of him, he wasn't even in the band back them, but he knew he would be one day. *Pete starts come out and play*
-Noodles: here's a song Warren wrote for us...
-That went on with a bunch of songs, he named the guitar tech/sound guy etc.
-Until What Happened to you: That one Noodles thought was one of their best cause he wrote it.
-Before Self Esteem, Noodles "now we played so many songs and we've finally arrived at a song Dexter wrote. Not one of our best obviously, since it's not ska."
-Dexter: I'm just here for the avril lavigne concert (she was playing at the same time at the Zenith, which is basically right next to Trabendo)
-A guy runs up on stage (during trust in you i think) whispers (i hope) something in Dexter's ear. Dexter: Well, uh, did I just got kissed by a 14 year old boy
-Dexter: It's fucking hot in here. Noodles: Lets all shower together
-Dexter: Greg K just had a baby 2 days ago. Noodles: I can't see it anymore.
-Pete does that new drum outro to Gone Away, Greg has a WTF look. Dexter looks at him, that's what we do now.
-You're gonna go far , kid. Dexter: you'll really like that if you hear it a couple times
-Dexter says something. Noodles isn't paying attention. Dexter goes all emoes.
-Dexter: wow we're playing long tonight, normally we play like 45 mins. Noodles: yeah not easy for us , we're getting old!
-Noodles: Man someone just told me I looked like (can't remember name) with my long hair. Don't say that too me that guy is like 103 years old. Can't you compare me to someone of my own age like Iggy Pop or something.
-the whole normal things, like that was great etc

Random Paris info:
-Bloody warm during the day, fucking cold at 3-7 am
-Has 6 Mcdonalds in a pretty close range
-Shitload of homeless people who take a random shit on the stairs
-Don't try to get a hotel room in the middle of the night, cause you won't find one you can afford

Random Tijs info:
-Tijs can't type on a French azerty keyboard

Anyway gonna take a bath now. Feeling dirty and tired.

Best show of my life. I'm serious, I couldn't have wished for a better show. It had everything! Small venue, Offspring being excited, old songs, new songs, long set list, awesome crowd, constant mosh-pit, wall of death and Greg K.

We talked to all the guys from the band, except Scott, because I didn't recognized him even though he was sitting right in front of me for about 5 minutes :-\

I think Jesus said all the notable stuff already, so I'll just post a few pictures:

Jesus doesn't want to be photographed:

Dexter and I, we did this one twice because on the first photo I had the 'OMG THATS DEXTER!!!'-look:

After the show somewhere near Trabendo is Jesus at a fountain.

I like to add some facts:

Dexter and Noodles check the BBS quite a lot. Noodles knew I was from Holland but they pronounce 'Tijs' as 'Tisj'. It should be pronounced something like 'Tice' though. When I introduced myself to Dexter he thought I said Dave, damn my nervousness!

They know Jesus and they also mentioned Jebus.

After 2 seconds of talking with Dexter and Noodles I was completely at ease, they're very relaxed and very kind.

I asked Greg why he's always so silent and if he's shy. He said he just doesn't say that much. I told him everyone on the forum LOVES him, and he laughed.

I am honestly jealous. I haven't seen them once because they haven't been to northern Germany in a long while. Hopefully, they'll come back to Europe (and Germany) in fall.

Nice:) Thanks Tijs!
And what a perfect night that must have been! Nice to hear them play Beheaded and Session again:)

oh man, great stories guys, thanks for sharing.

Tijs - I love that a) you have a brain t-shirt. Not that its a surprise but still great to see hahahaha
b) amusing caption with your dexter photo.
c) asking greg why he's so quiet! awesome! It's been my goal lately at shows to stand right in front of him
and yell incessantly to see if I can get him to say something in the mic (like... "hi")... but so far I've failed hahaha

Jesus - great quotes. Man I'd have loved to have been there just for the gone away outro to see Greg confused and have dexter tell him thats what they do now... hahaha freakin priceless.

and of course... to meet the guys would be something else but whatever hahaha, sounded like a great show and you guys had an awesome time. Thanks for sharing!

now - dex and noodles - play a club show in oc eh? come on... its at home you know it'd be fun ;)!

Goddamn i love beheaded.

And of course they'd check the forum, especially now, im sure they want to see how they're album's going down at least :D

And the reason they don't post is because whenever they do the thread gets flooded with "ZOMGz DEXTER!" :D we do need another Noodle's thread about gay stuff though.

I'm jealous of you guys though :(

Wow, that’s a ton of info to take in! Really glad you guys had a great time, and you even got to meet the band! (I’ll admit, I’m more then a little envious). Plus some really interesting news, glad Warren may be sticking around for a while, and they keep checking the BBS! Also, it’s really cool that they’re having fun again, because a couple of the festival shows they looked far too serious. I hope this feeling (and random setlists OMG Beheaded!!!) carries on when they start doing their own tour.

It's weird that audience started wall of death by themselves, such thing needs some organization, random people should came up with the idea to split crowd at the same time. Same here.... in 99 I was in the front row and when the show was over I could barely move. The next day I was all pain but I didn't care. Same in 2004 when my friend and I got front row for two days straight and our chest and arms were al bruised. I guess I can handle it again in a small club but I'm worried about Virgin mobile. It will be hot as hell and I'm afraid I can faint.

Noodles: "And one of you is from Holland right?"

I thought Oxy had lost that pic!

I have a habit of closing my eyes while wearing my glasses when a picture is taken (with flash). I'm quite awake here, compared to a bunch of other pictures where I usually have my eyes completely closed :D

In Sweden we have this joke:
- Vad blir "Paris" baklänges?
- "Sirap".
- Vad blir "sirap" upp-och-ner?
- Kladdigt!

LOL! Why are they showing That 70's Show at this hour?

I'm so jealous that Noodles actually mentions you by name. It seems to me that these guys don't really value the individual fan from the US as much as they do from other countries just for the simple fact that we're not from a foreign country :(

Still though, I'm really happy for you/jealous :P

I think they value all individual fans equally.. I know of some US and Canadian fans who have just as much if not better relationship with them.

It's not a question of where you come from I don't think

So does that mean no warning for bumping old threads? :D

I just went through all the pages of this thread again... and... and... and...

I gotta tell you guys, I hate/love you! :( :)

I've been to a couple of club shows and they were just amazing, I wonder what it would've been like if it'd been The Offspring playing instead! That'd be fucking kpqkwepkapdka... I mean, there wouldn't even be words to describe all the awesomeness of it.

And Oxy, thanks for posting the video here, man! It's really awesome! :D Oh, I love HD concert videos. :o
