I challenge someone on the forums to a solo battle. Me and the first guitarist to post will make a video of themselves performing either a solo they wrote or an actual solo.

Does anyone accept my challenge?

Since I can't play guitar, I do not accept your challenge. Let's just live in peace 'til GH World Tour is released.

I don't have the video (because I had to practice the song for four hours before I learned the whole thing enough to play it without screwing it up), but I have an instrumental audio track of the solo from my band's eponymous song. It's got two or three instrumental breaks---though, they're all pretty standard fare. Just some blues-scale improv, nothing really special. I'd be glad to share it if I knew how to upload it; the Myspace account I'm using is already maxed out with 6 tracks.

Don't be put off by the fact that my camera mangled the first half of the video.

Like I said, I don't have any video....but the recorded track is on my band's Myspace page:

The track is the first one, called "Static Martyr." It's not great, but I wasn't aiming for anything too proggy---I actually structured the song after "Part III," by Bad Religion, although it doesn't really sound like it. A solo's a solo, though, and this is definitely a solo. Enjoy (or don't)~

This is me performing with my band The Endless... at the Rock-It Club. The video and sound is shitty and jumps around a bit but you can get the idea of it pretty well

The closest I've gotten is the intro to Pay The Man. I'm really good at that whole bit

I can't think of what my best solo is, but my favorite solo to play is the one Californacation by Red Hot Chili Peppers. It's really easy, but I like it. I can almost play the solo in What Happened to you, but I just have an issue with speed. as in switching my fingering fast, not playing fast. I haven't attempted Pay the Man's intro before, but I know I can play the rest of it.

Wow, I hadn't even thought about ones that I didn't write. Let's see, my favorite ones to play....

(1) The Hell Song (Sum 41) - just plain rockin' out
(2) No Brains (also Sum 41) - very fast, very manic, but quite easy...also get to use a thimble!
(3) Kristy, Are You Doing Okay? (The Offspring) - simple but elegant
(4) The Kids Aren't Alright (The Offspring) - so powerful, one of the first ones I learned
(5) Sorrow (Bad Religion) - have you seen the video? If so, 'nuff said
(6) Wolves In Wolves' Clothing (NOFX) - I like the speed
(7) American Idiot (Green Day) - I don't care what anyone says, this is just a fun song to play all the way through, and it's easy to sing and play at the same time
(8) Jennifer Lost The War (Offspring) - I learned the blues scale playing this song
(9) I'll Be Waiting (Offspring) - cool intro, great little egyptian solo riff
(10) Rise And Fall (Offspring) - fun to play like American Idiot, but harder

maybe i'll make a video of my playing it... i play it with a little more noodling in it than the original recording. (not making a reference to noodles)

Whoa, now when you mentioned that solo was kinda egyptian I can feel it! To me it always seemed like a musician performing it in a smoky pub with many people drinking there.

Hmm...I'll have to go back and give that one another listen, with that in mind (this'll be....let's see, listen number 1003535246987? hah, I don't know).

I know I say "Egyptian," but that's mostly because the first songs I heard from the early Offspring era were very middle-eastern (Baghdad was the first one I heard, on RABV1), and now every time I hear the Phrygian mode in a song, I think of the "Egyptian" theme. So really, I guess I mean "Phrygian." But it's close enough for gov'mint work :)

P.S. How the hell do you guys have those little face graphics and whatnot next to your names?
