View Full Version : Sex & Pregnancy Myths

So, this discusssion comes up every so often for my mens and I. He used to be a peer counselor at his former University and they used to go to local high schools and perform skits and stuff on alcohol and drugs and sex to teach the kids some stuff. He would tell me some the myths they would need to debunk and I would giggle and be all like, "how could people believe some of that?!"

Until I recently found out some of my best friends (women in their early 20's) also believe them.

I've had a friend tell me she doesn't know how a friend of hers got pregnant in high school because "it was her first time and she was on top."

Another friend had a condom slip off inside her. She was nervous at first, and rightfully so, because she was afraid she would get pregnant. Then she figured it never slipped off inside her because she was able to pee right afterwards without "peeing out" the condom, completely oblivious that it's....well, a different set of "tubes" to put things simply.

Another friend and I were discussing our sex lives and I brought up how I'm going to start using a different kind of birth control (condoms or the pill lolololo). She told me she and her mens don't care too much anymore if they get pregnant. Then she told me he still prefers to finish inside only if she's on top and makes her pee right afterwards. My mens asked me if he makes her do jumping jacks also (clearly being sarcastic).

I'm pretty highly disappointed in people and also kind of appalled. I thought 2 out of 3 of those girls were pretty intelligent and wouldn't believe all this bullshit and be so stupid. And I don't think the school can be blamed for lack of proper sex ed, because Girl 1 and Girl 3 went to the same schools as I did from Grade 6 on...and I never had those misconceptions (yes, there must be a joke in using the word "misconception," but I'm not making it). I was wondering if other people have encountered a lot of this in their social circles or anything. And no offense, but I'm not talking about when you were in the seventh grade.

Yeah, people are just really misinformed. Some people I know actually think the "pulling out" before you cum technique works. I bet God infused that stupidity into us to trick us into having more babies..haha bastard.

Yeah, I've said on here before that boyfriend's friend ended up with a kid using that method of "birth control" (ie: luck). I guess I just didn't want to think people could be quite so dumb. Or that MY friends could be so dumb. We lost a little faith in humanity last night having a conversation about Girl 3.

I remember someone in my school thinking that you couldn't possibly get pregnant if you had sex standing up. I laughed uncontrollably at that. I'm sure I don't need to explain why :p. But yeah, that was pretty stupid.

I find the whole "peeing after sex wont make you pregnant" thing straight up ridiculous. Women who don't even fully understand the anatomy of their own vagina at such an age made me worry about how misinformed our youth can really be. Sexual Education is a very important thing, and now a days they're too afraid to even explain anything in depth.

The thing is, our school DID (for Girl 1 & 3 anyways, and Girl 3 is the after sex pee-er). They were preeeeetty in depth. So I don't know if they totally didn't pay attention or if they are just choosing to ignore it now because they want to go on boning without using any form of protection. Or if it's something else entirely.

Okay, you're gonna have to explain this one, because I'm pretty sure that it does.

ewww@ peeing out the condom. ooomfg. the kind of stuff people believe... it's amazing.

a family member of my mens doesn't intend on breastfeeding her male child too often, because it might make him "too attached to her" and as such, turn him feminine or gay. instead, she plans on having the father bottle-feed the kid in order to start the male bonding early on... so that the child grows up to be a real man and not some sort of wimp. the father is totally into the idea and believes the son/father relationship should be a priority for the whole family. just... awesome. never thought i'd hear someone say that being around titties too much will turn you gay... but hey!

not that i'm surprised... they conceived the child "by accident", thinking they were "doing it the safe way". much to their surprise, pulling out DIDN'T WORK. shocker!

I really don't understand why people can't take 5 fucking seconds to put a condom on.

Do people think the girl is gonna run off if you pause or something?

There were people in my high school that I'd been going to school with for years that were just as stupid despite us having sex ed classes going back to like 5th grade. Most people don't treat health/sex ed like a "real" class, so no one really pays attention to most of it.

Hee hee. In Depth.

People at my high school thought you couldn't get pregnant in water. Needless to say I never went hot tubing at any of my friends houses.

WTF I've never even heard of most of these myths. Peeing out the condom?? Does she also think she has to take out a tampon in order to pee??

I never even had a sex ed class, and I've never thought any of these things to be true... nor have I known anyone who did. That's just scary...

I tried explaining it to her with the tampon thing. She still didn't get it. And then refused to uh..."poke around" to see if the condom was still in there, because "it's icky."

sigh.

Aside from the fact that pulling out in time is trickier than you think, there's also the fact that before you fully cum, little bits of precum trickle out.

I knew someone who though his penis was deformed when he was younger because of his frenulum. He had never seen one on the circumcised penises from porn movies so he thought something was wrong with his.

His mother is 52 and also vouches for him.
wha what? That's an extremely disturbing conversion to have with one's mother.

ive only just left highschool, yet i still know more about this shit than alot of these people you are talking about...
one of my friends thought that if she let her boyfriend come in her mouth whilst giving him head, and if she swallowed, that it could get her pregnant...
One of my male friends acctually once asked me if girls really do have 3 holes... i found that hillarious.. i really did... this being the same male friend who thought if a guy comes whilst giving anal, that it could get the girl pregnant...
oh he did make me chuckle..
then again, he was one of the gigglers in sex education.
i also know someone who is convinced that S&M and Bondage are not sexual acts...
the basics of it are Egg + Sperm = baby... it doesnt matter what position its done in, those swimmers are persistant little fuckers.

pulling out works if your man has self controll and is faithful. In other words: don't use it! I've known many couples who've used it successfully, some for nearly 20 years. Condoms are fucking stupid in a committed relationship + I don't care what u say they just make sex a bit worse, and the pill has hormones, which to use the lingo are "icky"! Were fucked! Scuse the pun :)

Pulling out is not a good idea, ever. Even with self-control its possible for pre-cum to get the job done.

I'm willing to make sex a little less enjoyable, though to be completely honest (and gay) I prefer cuddling.

Nowhere has it been proved beyond a doubt that precum fertilises the egg. In fact, it most likely does not. It's just some scare story whose actual roots lie in the fact that cum comes right after and DOES fertilise.

That's not gay, that's awesome.

On the note of making sex more/less enjoyable. I'd definitely rather do it without a condom. But being on just the pill freaks me out because it isn't 100% effective. IUDs are where it's at. mhm.

Back to stupid people...

So, this girl I work with was telling me today about the "funny story" how she conceived her kid (she's 20, she was barely 19 when she got pregnant). She got knocked up in early July 2007. The end of November 2007 came around and she started "getting fat." So she started working out. But she kept getting bigger. Then she "felt something move." So she took 2 pregnancy tests. She was pregnant! She went to the doctor and found out she was about 5 months along. She had no idea!

...um. There's like signs of that and shit. =\

Then she tells me...."yeah, so I was pregnant. I still have no idea how it happened."

....funny, I have an idea.

IUDs are awesome, but implanon is even more awesome (and about four times more reliable).

Rag Doll
07-25-2008, 09:14 PM
Mirena IUDs are more effective than sterilization. So, I'm pretty pleased with how it'll work out. My doctor doesn't do Implanon, though I was considering that also.

Might be getting it this Wednesday. weeoo.

I love my Mirena! Except when they took it out and replaced it with a new one. And then it fell out right away, so they had to do it again. Worst.Pain.EVARRRRR. But don't worry Sam, you will have at least 5 years until they have to do that to you.

pre-cum can only wash out sperm already in the penis from a previous ejaculation: ie: you beat off, to not be a minute man prior to the gig, and don't take leak...

or u do it twice :)

It's not a 100% obviously, but given the right circumstances it's no better/worse than any other contraception, but to each his own.

I dunno all the other forms of contraception seem so brutal tho (not that I don't use them - I just don't like them, kinda like a seatbelt).. it's irresponsible not to protect against unwanted pregnancies :)

I actually remembered you saying that, so I asked my doctor when he told me he thought it'd be a good option. He says he generally hasn't seen anyone really experience any pain from it, but if I did end up going through something like you did, it probably wouldn't be a big deal to me after everything else I've dealt with.

aside from the totally fucking obvious part, which is NOT HAVING YOUR PERIOD, didn't she... feel sort of... odd? i mean, maybe i'm a whackjob, but i can definitely feel when i'm getting my period or when i'm ovulating (when i'm not on the pill of course... ha). i mean.. am i the only person who can feel certain cyclical changes happening? i'm assuming other people pay attention to their bodies too... right? RIGHT?

I didn't want to ask. I would be way too upset with the answer probably.

She assumed the morning sickness was a virus. She assumed being tired and cranky was stress, so she quit her 2nd job. That 2nd job was Burger King and she also assumed that the nausea was also attributed to the food, because she often got sick at work.

I don't think it hurt when thye put it in first, I think it only gave me some mild cramps. But the taking out hurt, and then all the issues with putting the new one in. I had a biopsy of my intestines the day before though, so I think that made it all a bit sensitive too, all the poking around with camera can't have been nice for the insides of my belly!
