The news about the Social D.'s highly anticipated new album came from Punknews.org (http://www.punknews.org/article/29819):

Social Distortion frontman Mike Ness recently spoke with Synthesis.net (http://www.synthesis.net/music/interview/item-7091/2008-07-07-mike_ness) about the band's future recording plans, a new solo album and a possible documentary on Social D.

"We’ve got studio albums for both projects. It’s wide open. [I’m taking] the most part of this year off, and then next year it’s time to gear up and get focused, and create. I think it’s gonna be great. The time off always helps me prepare for creating subconsciously."

A follow-up to 2004's Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll has been mentioned, but delayed several times while the band had been touring constantly for the last few years. Although a title and release date for the new Social Distortion album have not yet been officially confirmed, the band plans to release it sometime in 2009 as well as an acoustic album.

A new solo record would follow Ness' last two outputs; Cheating At Solitaire, and the country music covers compilation, Under The Influences. Both records were released in 1999.

This is very great news to me and I'm very much exicited for the new album. Anyone else exicited too?

Very much so. I've just recently become a fan and have all of their albums to date, so a new one so soon (for me) would be awesome :)

I agree that a new one coming out soon would be awesome, but too bad we'll have to wait until next year for that come out.

I'm excited, but i'm not going to expect it anytime soon. The last Social D news posting at .org had Ness claiming the band was thinking about an acoustic album.... he sure takes his goddamn time.

Awesome! Social D's gotta be in my top 5 favorite bands. I don't think I'll get the solo album because the two I listened to one time were straight up country/blues sounding. Maybe I'll get the acoustic one. I'm definitely getting the follow up to their 2004 one. No doubt about that!

Good news for those who have been waiting for the new Social D record:

Mike Ness said in this interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBbJMzHzggo) that the band's planning on going back to the studio in December or the beginning of next year to finally begin recording their new album. It looks like the wait is almost over.

jacknife737
07-15-2009, 02:30 PM
So after about 4 years of claiming to work on the new record, they're finally heading into the studio?

At this rate, Mike Ness is going to be like 70, when they end up working on their next record.

Still, i'm really excited to hear the final product. This band gets better with age; plus Atom Willard will be drumming...that's always a plus!

Sex Love and Rock'n'Roll is probably my favorite album of theirs; i'm excited to hear the new material, but i've been getting pretty annoyed at how long it's been taking, considering the band has had like almost two albums worth of material written since 2004.

Almost every single Social D album is my favorite, including Sex Love and Rock 'n' Roll. I'm excited for the new record and getting annoyed at how long they've been working on it too, but their singer Mike Ness mentioned weeks ago that they should be back in the studio around December of this year or January of next year to finally record it. So maybe it'll be out around the middle of 2010 or later than that you never know, but according to the biography on their website (http://www.socialdistortion.com/history/), it's supposed to come out next year.

According to this new interview (http://blogs.pitch.com/wayward/2009/09/wayward_qa_mike_ness_of_social_distortion.php) with Mike, they're going to record the new album at Foo Fighters' own studio. I believe he's referring to Studio 606 West, that's the studio the Foo Fighters own. If they record the new album there, I wonder what musical direction it's gonna take.

The last few Epitaph signings have been really good:

Alkaline Trio, Off With Their Heads, Heartsounds: i suppose this is a sign of things to come. Glad to see that they may be moving away from that generic scremo shit that have made up the majority of their new signings for the past 3 years or so. As far as Social Distortion is concerned, i would assume that they are relatively close to finishing their album, if eptiaph has agreed to release it.

Also, isn't Millencolin still on epitaph (I mean, as far as North America is concerned)?
