Of course, they finally play at Chain Reaction, and of all the days they could play there...It's the exact same day, and at the exact same time that my band is playing a show at Hogue Barmichaels... about 20 mins away.

Son of a bitch!!!

what time are you planning to line up at and what is your name?

i saw offspring at cbgbs 3 years ago and it held about 300 people. it was the greatest experience i've had seeing offspring. it was so much fun. when i logged on and saw this i knew i had to be there. things like this don't happen everyday!

as for what time I'm getting there - haven't decided yet but I imagine it has to be early... I live like 20 minutes from there so I figure i'll drive by and scout it out a couple times... depends.

Gotta call my buddy and see what he's up to as well - I imagine we have to be there early right? People aren't going to be camping out the night before are they? I've never enjoyed doing that...

i use to go to chain reaction all the time. it's an awesome venue that books some great shows, but the bathroom is one of the worst in orange county. maybe they'll clean it since the offspring are playing though.

and for those attempting to go, there's a great arbys just up the street. lots of bands go, i've eaten with a few there.

It's hard to say - if I could afford it - I'd probably do it just for the experience - truth is you'd probably get a fun story out of it either way... if thats an issue though (and for me it would be... i wouldn't be able to fly across the country for this)... then it might not be the risk... but didnt you say you got in to the other? or are you still unclear on that?

but didnt you say you got in to the other? or are you still unclear on that?

I did, but the other show I got all the emails I needed to be sure I was on the list. This one, however, I just got the email saying I was one of the 200. And I guess you assured me this was the last one sent to the other people.

I am afraid that I have to be extremely early for the secret show so I have a chance to get in.

We're being so neglected on the east coast. arggh! Maybe they'll do a show a Ziggy's here in NC. Ziggy's is like THE PLACE where everyone plays if they ever tour here. Its like the CBGB of NC, except without the rest of the nation knowing about it... you know what I mean.

This will probably be the best offspring show I will ever see.

I was 265 out of 275.

For everyone else: they say that if you didn't get a wristband, you can still line up at 7:30pm tonight and you will most likely get in, you just aren't guaranteed to get in. If you're planning to do this, I would go line up right now if you really want to see this show.

- genocide
-come out and play
-self esteem
-gone away
-mota
-burn it up
- all i want

-americana
-pretty fly for a white guy
-want you bad
-cant get my head around you

i was completely soaked in sweat (not all of it mine, lol) walking down the street to my car afterwards.

met Dexter afterwards, talked to him really quick, told him about how i managed to play a set with my band and make it to their show 5 mins before they started. :D

one of my ear plugs got knocked out in the first song, so my hearing is a little lopsided. lol. i switched my one earplug from ear to ear after a few songs to try and even the damage out. lol

Man I am so bummed. The show was freaking great but I didn't get one of my I'll be waiting singles signed. I got right to Dexter when he was talking with people at the end of the show and he walked away. :( I put my address and a buck for postage on the EP holder (I didn't bring the cover, just the actual EP in a slip) and threw it in the back of one of the trucks hauling away their equipment. I doubt i'll ever see it again but who knows.

By the way, Mota was not on the setlist. A bunch of people kept screaming for them to play it and they actually went off for a second and I think asked each other if they remembered how to play it. When they came back they joked around that they never practice their music but seemed to pull off Mota pretty nicely.

Last but not least, no encore. Kind of a lame trend with Offspring shows nowadays, they never seem to do them anymore. Was still a fantastic show though and you can't beat free. :D

that was a ridiculously fun show, they were talkin a lot the whole time, you didn't mind the ridiculous amount of sweat covering your body, good quotes and

burn it up!
Genocide!
(and i was sad when someone asked for beheaded and dexter said "half of you didn't even know the words to genocide")

then they took the quick break
and Mota!

wow what a show, then got to meet them, great band, nice guys (Greg... boy is he quiet :)... ran away when they started filming an interview afterwards - badass though, as always)

i'll write more later (i have a set list lying around here somewhere... my friend might have it so i'll post that full thing if no one else does sooner or later) - see everyone tomorrow who's going to the yahoo thing - i'll be the guy in the long sleeve cal shirt trying to talk to everyone haha :)

our goal should be to get greg to say something in the mic haha

When I was attempting a last ditch effort of getting my EP signed, I was standing out by the rear exit of the place to see if they would come out. This one guy asked me "Hey, what do you have there?" and I answered "It's their original EP they released in 1986" and he said "Wow! They've been around that long?"

So yeah...pretty lame. I suspect there were a lot of people that just went because they heard "free" and "myspace".

I'm pretty sure most of us were that age one time and listened to The Offspring. So no hating on former ussies!

Although I think most of the 15 year olds are now (sadly) into paramore, the kooks, jonas brothers etc. A new batch of fans from a younger generation won't be that bad. They need to replace us less active becoming mid twenty somethings with our arthrosis, wheelchairs and rheumatism...

Nice setlist, good to see Genocide, Mota and Burn It Up! I can't remember if they played Burn It Up and Genocide during the warped tour, if not then that must have been ages since they played it (although I think they played Genocide)! Hopefully they add 3 or 4 more songs to the setlist to make it longer when they finally launch their own tour. It's strange that they started with All I want, Bad Habit is such a fine opener and better for Dexter's vocals too I think ;). Can you also type out some funny quotes from the show after you wake up? :p

And have fun at the Yahoo thing tomorrow (today I guess depending on the timezone) you lucky sod! That's your 4th Offspring concert this year right? Didn't you go to the weenie roast and the Santa Barbara show too?

If I remember correctly, the last time was Summersonic last year. It is certainly a favourite amongst hardcore and casual fans; at download there was a person I met who had just seen them for the 11th time and his salient rant (excluding the age rant) was that in all that time he'd never heard Mota live. He'd seen some interesting shows too; Glastonbury '94 for example, but never Mota. It's cool!

Definitely more club shows, I'd amputate a limb to get another chance to go to Paris. It's interesting that they played Burn It Up. Although it is considered by many to be one of the weaker tracks on Ignition, it was their first "hit" (http://http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pPSDhTiNzRc)and I'm sure it would be enthralling live.

haha as for the quotes - funk monkey mentioned noodles and his 3 favorite things...

the then talked about masturbating then eating a sandwich
they played another song and the song ended and dexter said something to the effect of "Noodles, throughout that whole song I can't stop thinking about you masturbating with a sandwich. what kind of sandwich was it?"

Dexter "This is Greg K. He's in the band too!"

when talking about MySpace
Noodles "I don't see Tom here anywhere."
Noodles "I think Tom is my friend on there just to get as many friends as possible"
To Crowd "How many of you are friends with Tom?"
Then I can't remember if this was Dexter or Noodles

That's a sad story... When they finally decidce to "HEY! Let's play some older song, yeaaah, they would love that!", and then just 30% of the crowd know the song.
But glad they played it. :D

Heheh, sad. Would be freakin' cool if you got it back, huh? ^^

How can we get them to play at least one song off their first record?

If I counted it correctly it was; five songs from Americana, four songs from Smash, three song from Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace and the same from Ixnay on the Hombre. Then one song from the other except for the self titled. So one from that one, would it hurt them so bad?

Well, I have a sweet feeling that they finally started to play some songs exactly for hardcore fans. Like Burn It Up. Too bad that some kiddos didn't know Genocide lyrics what even made Dexter mention that...I don't want such thing to affect the band on making their future set-lists and deciding to play an old song or not. But I think that we will see live versions of more Ignition / Self-Titled songs soon.

Idk about you guys but not every friend I have knows the entire offspring catalog front to back like I do. And its nice to go to shows with your friends. The energy really tappered out at the show too... probably since everyone barely got any sleep. I was on 3 hrs.

But I liked it in a way that people had no clue how genocide went. It means they have some new fans off this record which is good... the offspring are still valid.

The good thing about new people being at the show is that maybe (with luck) they'll now become Offspring fans...sales of Rise and Fall kinda showed that the Offspring needs some more fans.

I WISH I could have been there, what an amazing set list. I can't wait till they finally tour the US, I like that they're lately throwing in some Ignition songs there.

my friend got two. message me. I could probably get it from him since I dont see why he needs two and I already have one. As for people not knowing the words and stuff.

It means they have some new fans off this record which is good... the offspring are still valid.

i understand how you guys like new people attending the shows. However, I do believe there was too many free loaders and fake fans at this show. And this is understandable since this show was advertised in myspace, and kroq and it was free. And of course we don't expect them to know every single song since they are new fans or friends of other fans... what sux is that real fans couldn't get in or couldn't make it to the show. that's really lame.

hopefully this new people can actually replace older fans and really get to know who is the offspring.

yeah there are alot of fans that are getting old and actually have liked the band since they started. they actually know what their songs are about and know what offspring is all about. i meant to say that i hope this new fans who just found about about offspring actually do listen to all their stuff and don't be ignorant and say they just went to a show because they had nothing else to do or because a show is free. that's wrong.

did anyone stayed in line for this show and didn't make it?
i just know alot of the people who didn't get in came back later on that day for a chance to get in. i was wondering if any of you are around here.

I believe that almost anyone is destined to live a period of silly music-fan life when he/she discovers something new gets into a genre/band or whatever it is. We all were like that, blindly believed that only our favorite band is the best in the world and were angry on others who said something different than your truth. The difference is about how long that period of time was. I can tell you that most of post-USSR rock listeners have serious problems with understanding what their beloved bands sing about(of course the main reason is language problems), also huge part of them care more about their image rather than reconsidering their view of life, they like how it all sounds, but they don't care about message. Putting it simply - trendies :). And I guess that's a common thing all over the world. And The Offspring has many fans like that as well. But hey, you can never know for sure, maybe those fake fans you were talking about will grow up as good examples of what you expect to see in Offspring fan.

I don't think there are any fake fans. There might be some newbies that are just discovering the offspring. All fans are welcome! I have been an offspring fan for 9 years. I wasn't a huge fan until I saw them in concert ; then i was hooked.

I had a dream last night; I was at an Offspring show, and then had to leave for no lucid reason. Outside the venue I quickly turned on a radio and they were playing Genocide in the venue. It was easily one of the most horrendous dreams ever (not triumphing over the dream when The Offspring played Tenacious D).

I really am a nerd.
