I have a thing for popular Alternative Rock songs of olden days. I love remembering a song I used to hear on the radio in the 90's, and then looking it up and hearing it for the first time in years. Post your favorite Alternative Rock hits of the past that are still worth a listen today.

EDIT: Actually just post any "often forgotten" hits from any genre. It doesn't matter.

Nada Surf-Popular
Orgy-Stitches
Semi-Sonic-Closing Time
Sponge-Plowed
Trust Company-Downfall

That's all I can think of right now...

I've always held a soft spot for Closing Time, since i'm such a 90s kid, it just brings on the nostalgia.

I still listen to the Smashing Pumpkins and Foofighters so a lot of their stuff is great; especially Everlong and Cherub Rock.

I don't know much at all about the Smashing Pumpkins, but I know I have a few different songs in my memory from radio that I don't know the names of. I already have 1979 and that other one whatever the fuck it's called, Bullets and Butterflys or something.

*Bullet with Butterfly Wings

Anyways, I like some of your choices. We had a mix of 90 songs of the 1990's at my last job that one of the guys made. It was pretty awesome. But my computer crashed and I lost it =\.

Ugh, I can't stand Popular. It's a bad song, plus it's really embarassing to hear after realizing how good Nada Surf after the 90's and they stopped doing generic alt-rock.

Haha, glad somebody mentioned Everclear. Like Semisonic and Third Eye Blind, a lot of Everclear songs give me that nostalgia feeling.

Oh, also that song "You Get What You Give" by New Radicals.

Ahh.. the 90's. How I love thee.

And started doing generic indie-pop.

I fuckin' love you. I was just gonna say that.

I expected this thread to be full of all my least favorite songs of all time, with a few of my favorites dropped in. I was not wrong.

Plowed by Sponge is fucking amazing.

Some of my favorites that have yet to be mentioned:

Cracker - Low
Oleander - Why I'm Here
Fuel - Bittersweet
The Breeders - Cannonball
Fuel - Shimmer
Cake - The Distance
Presidents of the United States of America - Volcano
Blues Traveler - Run Around
Candlebox - You
Soul Coughing - Circles
Blind Melon - No Rain

I'm sure I can think of some more.

Wow, the end of my band's practices lately have become a revue of basically all these songs.

And started doing generic indie-pop.

Nada Surf's brand of generic indie pop is a thing of beauty to be cherished. Suck it.

PS luv u

They're not bad at what they do, they're mostly fairly pleasant, but the fact that the album of theirs I listened to sounded EXACTLY how I expected it to sound even though I'd never heard any of their songs before kind of turned me off from them.

The Presidents >>> way better than their hits most of the time. I didn't know Volcano was a hit?
And Circles is probably the most typically alt-rock song Soul Coughing have, their other stuff tends to be better as well.
