My friend started a petition to include the Canadian Olympic team into special olympics competition (because that's the only way they can win some fucking medals) but whad'uknow, they came through finally. Still a disappointing total though.

Nice. Big move huh? Why did you move all the way over here? And how long have you been here?

Nice. Big move huh? Why did you move all the way over here? And how long have you been here?

I've been here about eleven years. Why Canada in particular? Well, there are a lot of opportunities and this is important. There is much less racism here, unlike Europe for example, and thus there are more possibilities to land a permanent job. It was something important to my parents because they wanted a society where they can fit.

I have no problems answering questions if I'm asked. People think they can't approach me because I look mean and talk dirty but I'm generally responsive and I like to carry a conversation... well, not always but you know.

You know when Leon (Jean Reno) points the gun in the hotel receptionists' face and orders him to call the boss to let him know that "he's coming", so the first thing the boss asks is "what does he look like?" and he answers: "serious". You remember Leon's look from that scene? Yeah, that's what I'm going for.

WHAT A DAY! What a fabolous day for small Norway!

Today we have taken 2 gold medals and 1 silver:

Womens handball final between Norway and Russia - and Norway SMASHED them!!
Andreas Thorkildsen won men's javelin throw with almost five meters - AGAIN (defended the gold from last OL)!
Nina Solheim got silver in taekwondo for women +67kg!

Total: 3 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze - best in Scandinavia. Are you jealous Sweden? :P

we're doing pretty good for the small spot on the map that we are. 7 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze. that's sixteen in total so far. there was a statistic calculation that the Netherlands would have 20 in total at the end of the Olympics. I wonder if statistics will get it right.

You are forgetting the fact that you have a quite developed country with 16 500 000 people. :p

JoY
08-23-2008, 11:17 AM
it has little to do with us being developed. the best runners for instance come from parts in the world considered less developed. ;p if anything, the sports Dutch sportsmen & -woman have won a medal with could possibly testify of that, considering field hockey & the sorts are generally considered to be relatively posh. & we ought to do good at swimming & rowing/anything with a boat; our country is below sealevel after all.

16.5 million people is still not a whole lot in comparison.

yeah yeah, I get it, you try to make me feel less happy about Dutch victories & achievements, because you can't handle it. awwww.

Slovakia, as big as Netherland, 5 400 000 people, not as developed. 6 medals.
Denmark, as big as Netherland, 5 500 000 people, 7 medals.

We don't have imported niggas I guess. :D

Joking aside, it's all complicated, with exceptions and paradoxes, it would be great if Endymion did some statistics and graphs.

import sure has caused a higher inhabitants number, but among the winners from the Netherlands I've only seen cheeseheads & Dutch last names. (which I thought to be kind of strange & in a way disappointing, since so many cultures are represented in the Netherlands) so you don't grant the Netherlands sixteen medals for outstanding achievements in sports. that's fine with me.

statistics & graphs are all over the net, if you were looking for them.

The Dutch are also very sexy.

P.S.
Johnny, do you know the title of the jazz song (hymn?) played at the end of Simpsons episode where Bleeding gums dies? There are no vocals, only the sax.

They were disappointing yeah. In hockey, swimming, cycling, judo alot of them performed not good. But that doesnt change that out women did a great job at the olymbics.

We exceed our expected medal count, and if you consider population size we prefromed better then the US, since we had about 1 medal per every 2 000 000 of our population; the US only won 1 medal per every 3 000 000 of their population.

Yeah but only three of those are gold which is what ultimately counts. The rest are loser-medals for 2nd and 3d best meh.

On that subject, I hate it that the American news agencies always count by medal totals instead of by the number of gold medals. Fucking propagandists.

Yeah. We, Norway, got 3 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze, and that's pretty good to be from a country with only 4,7 million people.

Never thought of it that way. I guess when I heard that they won 106 and we got 18, sounded like a HUGE difference.
