I just returned home drunk and I have a problem with hiccups, I even tried to hold my breath several times for a long time, and I still keep getting it. Any solutions to my problem? You would be welcome :)

I usually drink water "from the wrong side of the cup", it seems to work.

Stand on your head and swallow a whole apple without using any hands.

Hello, I have tried jacknifes solution, did not work, and I did not even bother to check out andys solution, but I ate some stuff I had for lunch and the hiccups mysteriously disappeared.

... but, this could still serve as the official "Help me with hiccups" thread :D

Drink some water from the far side of the glass. You'll have to bend your head down way over to do it. Always does the trick.

I was always told it's because you talk too much. Maybe shut up and it'll go away. :p :D

The best cure is simple rest and relaxation. Take a break, read a book, and cook yourself some nice, warm soup. You should feel better already!

someone told me to look at the white horse when i had the hiccups. i had absolutely no idea what they were talking about and they finally annouced they had said it to confuse me and take my mind off the hiccups. amazingly i was so baffled by what they said that i hadnt noticed the hiccups had gone!

I just take a deep slow breath in and then out. Sometimes I need to do it twice.

Generally beating off does the trick for me.

drinking water from the wrong side of the cup is just bound to make a mess. I think it's based on the amount of concentration it takes one not to spill water while doing so & the fact you're in a for a cold mini shower once you do, which might give enough distraction to get rid of the hiccups.

every time I get the hiccups from alcohol, just drinking cold water the normal way usually works just fine for me. while you drink, you hold in your breath, which is supposed to help. the cold water is also supposed to help with disposal of what's in the stomach & since an overly filled stomach with food or alcohol can cause the hiccups, maybe that's why it helps for me.

it's a spasm from the diaphragm, the main muscle for breathing, that functions through the vagus nerve. you can try stimulating the nerve by putting pressure on/rubbing the area above your eyes & softly massaging the sinus caroticus in the neck (be careful with that, though). sometimes the vasalva manouver can help; pretend to lift something very heavy, close your nose by closing your glottis, close your mouth & forcibly exhale.
