View Full Version : 10 character minimum

This is serious business here. I think the minimum character limit should be six. I know it's to prevent spam, but why does it have to be ten? Just because it's a psychologically satisfying number, as George Carlin would say? I hate putting question marks at the end of sentences like that last one.

Yeah, 10 is a pain in the ass and everybody knows it. If it's possible, I say we get it changed.

I actually think it should be higher. If you're writing a post less than 10 letters, is it really worth it?

I've seen a lot of instances and encountered some myself where I only want to write one or two words but I can't because of that damn minimum.

Yea. It doesn't seem that annoying unless you've been posting here for maybe a few weeks to a month. But scrolling down just to put the number "10" or putting a bunch of black dots is a waste of time when you just wanna put a post out there.

Ther's ways to not show 10 characters. Therefore it's dumb to have it as a spam preventor.

I think the 10 chars minimum is to prevent boring posts.

I understand that it's generally true that short posts are pointless, but I think there's some exceptions. I often see people having to type in stupid bullshit just to meet the arbitrary 10 character minimum. Don't you?

I tend to post 2 or more sentences posts, so 10 characters rule was noticeable only few times to me. I don't think it's that big problem, sometimes, actually, people think of interesting black letter fillers so this rule does some good things too :) .

I think it's okay to have this rule in posts, though there should be no limits when it comes to profile visitor messages.

Just write whatever you want to write, then do enough spaces to make it 10 characters, then write a "."

I will demonstrate in my next post.

there was a period where it was a running thing to hide stuff in the black... it was always great when somebody would totally miss something because they didn't think to check.

the only time it really bothers me is on the visitor and private messages... those shouldn't be limited like that

I agree that it's especially annoying there. After that happened to me on a visitor message I decided to make this thread.

I don't have a problem with it. Is it really that hard to type "10 characters" or even form a complete sentence when replying?

No. See you unbelievers, it's really not that hard to type a post longer than 10 feckin characters...

This is exactly the kind of posts the 10-character rule is trying to avoid :) But, you see, there are still some differences... wow I could actually say what I want here.. raped cow, raped cow...oooh its too much fun kids...

Serious question -- if you don't have more than 10 characters to say, is it worth saying anything at all?

Well on visitor messages, it could be worth it. like just replying "lol" is appropriate, but not in a thread. I think there shouldnt be any limit on visitor messages.

No, replying with nothing but 'lol' is never worth it. I hate when I get messages and texts like that.

If you have nothing to say, you have nothing to say.
