This shit is soooooo fucking awesome. It might be called psychedelic folk-rock. Whatever it's called, I fucking love it. "Ed is a Portal" is one of the weirdest and one of the most awesome songs I've heard in a long-ass time. And the lyrics! Delicious!

I've Got Some Friends (http://www.mediafire.com/file/jb0hmowkn1d/04 - i've got some friends.mp3)

Ed is a portal
Ed is a portal
And damned if we don't try

To sort of relinquish the reigns our
Brains their mass has gravity
Pulls us into and away from
Portals such as Fractal Ed's
Mysterioso displacement
Proportioned subtle anti bubble
Gun unarmed the torsos run but they
Cannot grasp, they're brainless foot fast

Past and present
Large and lovely
Static quagmire
Lonely loco
Taco truck of
Mind space plosives

Pliable and potable
Refillable reusable

Ed is a portal
Ed is a portal
And damned if we don't try

Now don't start that shit
That pit-er-pat bit bout
Shamanistic shaker spells and
Alpha beta grammar slides
Water belly floppy drivin
Stoneless skippin' Brother John the
Headless one bathes Baby J the
Chosen one a portal dripped down
From the sun, portals dripping

Liquidating
Hydrogen
Ballooning belief
(The) mountains are steep and

Our feet are wet
But then not yet

Our bellies changin' like
Leaves arranged and
Sent to loved ones
Once marked they've begun
To delineate and define space
Gracious gracefully we face up
To leaking sons and
Laser beam guns but

(Primordial mantelope)

Primordial man, the antelope hunter
Made his weapons out of sticks
Thinking drinking from the sun
Her moonbeams birth mercurial babies
Antelopes run free and the sea it returns me

To all of the places that I have known

Now that my body's grown the lonely heart poetry
Droning in hearts becomes songs that all objects
Sing to each other like friends telling stories

It's all the same story
And Ed is a portal

The immorals gently awaken
All possibilities open
Unto one another
And brothers and sisters begin
To see truly through strata

since they're in the same general genre, i'd like to pimp Little Teeth. their full length just came out on absolutely kosher.

I only listened to Good Girls and Boys so far, but I like it. The thing I liked the best about it was her voice. I hated it for like the first 30 seconds but then I loved it. It's distinctive, she's clearly got a lot of talent, and attempting to imitate her would cause physical pain in most people. All the markings of a good voice.

I have to upload one more Akron/Family song. It's rather lengthy and is sort of the centerpiece of their 2007 album "Love is Simple," which the other two songs I uploaded are on as well (I still need to check out their older stuff). This song kinda reminds me of jammed-out, funky Pink Floyd. You'll have to excuse the first 2:30 of the song, which is just slow repetitive chanting. It's kinda pretentious but it does sort of set the mood a little bit.

On a side note, why do all the bands I listen to lately incessantly get compared to Animal Collective, yet I don't like Animal Collective?

That sounded interesting indeed. Shamanistic chants with so twisted psychedelic lyrics. Not quite my thing though, but good stuff if you're tired of everything else.
Reminded me of Space Lion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKnVaDwUg5s) from Cowboy Bebop soundtrack in some way. Also check out Rain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vcrb6365GsQ&feature=related).

Animal Collective are very very hit and miss. I really like a little more than half of their Strawberry Jam album and only about 2 songs from Feels (which I think came out right before it?) but don't actively dislike anything from either (though the People EP was horrible). I've been told Sung Tongs is their best but haven't found a copy anywhere so I can't confirm this. What have you heard by them so far?

Also, I liked Ed is a Portal but haven't listened to the other one yet.

I've youtubed and myspaced a lot of Animal Collective, and even though their stuff is pretty varied, I just can't really get into it.

Anyway, I've listened to "There's So Many Colors" some more. I can take the first couple minutes of weirdness when I'm listening to the album, but I'm beginning to think it wasn't worth putting it there. If you listen to the song starting at 3:30, it's actually super-accessible and could even be the type of song I'd play at a party. It could appeal to anyone. It's like Neil Young meets Pink Floyd. Sometimes, I just want to listen to that part. I think I'm going to keep the full version, but also copy it and chop off the first 3 minutes so I can just listen to the song by itself every now and then.
