This is more popular in the southern parts of the Netherlands. I'm a big fan.

Rowwen Hèze - Bestel Mar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkX5gsbvr0Y)
Rowwen Hèze - De Neus Omhoeg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0qMf3E2hfo)

This would be more "Dutch" though. I love this too.

Acda & De Munnik - Niet of Nooit Geweest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13VQ-vaC6aA)
Acda & De Munnik - Het Regent Zonnestralen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIJWBVqJYFk)

I generally dislike typical Dutch music.

What do you think of then?

The first band is inspired a lot by Irish Folk and is a bit similar to kind of Mexican or South-American music.

The Living End - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLC1YOaGwRY

Best portuguese band ever:
Xutos & Pontapés - Maria (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT8jRzrmJwk)
Xutos & Pontapés - Contentores (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OtO7uAi7aA&feature=related)
Xutos & Pontapés - Dia de S. Receber (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDPz6oqBrPM&feature=related)

But we have others..
Tara Perdida - Nasci Hoje (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOW8tq4iVvY)
Ornatos Violeta - Chaga (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2greG6LIusU)
Da Weasel - GTA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIl7D780lGY) (huh, live, these guys don't have clips to their best songs)

Oh, & I forgot these guys, since they even won an EMA award for MTV and stuff:
Buraka Som Sistema ft M.I.A. - Sounds Of Kuduro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CkXhtw7UNk&feature=related)

Forgot this too, though people don't tend to do this, it is still very important. I feel dumb today. Something that only exists on our country:
Amália Rodrigues - Barco Negro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdJYzzyO7nc)

Rowwen Hèze isn't real Dutch :P

I don't think everyone who doesn't speak Dutch will ever like any Dutch music though, because it's gonna sound horrible to everyone who doesn't understand the lyrics.

So this has to be about bands from the country, not what music is the most popular in the country (including bands from other countries). I can't think of any good bands in france nowadays...

There used to be Noir Désir, I don't listen to them, but my sister used to, and I know Bazza likes them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIkXK6rxt4c

There's Sinsemilia, a cool reggae band, funny when they sing in english, with there crappy french accents, but they do good songs.

The Real McKenzies
A perfect blend of traditional Scottish music, and punk. Their song topics cover everything from Charles Dickens, Robert Burns, The Defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie, to songs about growing up in Nova Scotia, and Canadian involvement in Afghanistan. To me they are the ideal example of a Canadian band, blending the traditions of their home-country with something that is uniquely “Canadian”. Unfortunately, their myspace doesn’t have their best work on it, but check them out nevertheless.

I can’t say enough good things about these guys, the best power-pop band I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to.

The Tragically Hip
You can’t talk about Canadian Music without mentioning these guys, they're as Canadian as a hockey puck covered in maple syrup. I’m not usually into straight up “rock”, but every time I hear one of their songs in a pub I feel obliged to sing along, with the rest of the patrons.

Cool glad you liked it! they do a lot of other good songs, I guess you can look for the others on you tube! That's the only ones I thought of, I can never think easily of rock because when I think of french stuff, I always think "varieté française" which is mostly love songs (thats what it feels like).

And Maria, glad you put some renaud as well!! don't like hallidays, but it is a sort of symbol of france even if he's belgian....

I'll put more when I can think of it, don't know if anyone is interested in french rap? cause even though nowadays its mostly crap, you can find some good stuff although its mostly older stuff. You can look up the band "IAM" for example (they've done some stuff with redman and method man)... and... err can't think of any other yet, oh yeah "assassin" is/was awesome

the other Polish person put up some songs by one of the better Polish bands; unfortunately, it's not entirely representative of our music taste as a nation.

so here's some fabulously embarrasing Polish tunez: fat white guy hip hop, girly indie whinings and of course "disco polo", which is far more horrific than the name would imply.

It's not like it's in Frisian. It's dialect, so it's still Dutch ;)

Or are we on the subject of "Limburg should be given to Belgium because it's a worthless province"?

What is real Dutch music then? André Hazes? De Toppers? Jantje Smit? ...Party Animals?

but this music is very modern and the main radio channels do play this songs.

other songs in germany are:

the title "Über den Wolken" means "Above the clouds"

I'm comming from north germany near the coast of the noth sea. here many people favour this song:
