Is there a way to do away with them? I'm pretty sure everyone except Alex101 agrees that they're an annoying infestation of Other Bands, but since they don't officially break a rule, no action has been taken. I'd be in support of an abuse of power to get rid of them for good.

I think since many people seem to enjoy those threads they will stay for now. But I agree, it is too bad that you care so much. Hang in there! They might get bored!

When they get bored they create a a different one.

Just create a new sub forum for those threads where they can have fun enlarging their post-count-e-penis so that we can stick to the other bands forum.

This is actually a good idea. Do mods or admins have the ability to create sub-forums?

I can't create new subforums, and I'm not sure it's enough of a thing to warrant asking the powers that be to create a new subforum for them. I'll definitely think about it and perhaps the other moderators and I can come up with something to make everyone happy.

I'm just going to agree that I think they're annoying as hell. And that I think Other Band is otherwise a generally good forum to visit.

I'd also have to agree.

Those "vs." threads are like just crabs. You can't get rid of them.

Like others have mentioned, I think it's more out of boredom. But for me, it's not to boost my post count. Couldn't care less if it was high or low. I enjoy playing it from time to time, but isn't a life or death situation if it's gone.

Oh yes it is. But no one knows this...

You shouldn't need to make everyone happy. Just label them as spam and delete them. What's so hard about that? If people are really desperate just create one Song vs. Song thread where you can pit together any two songs.

Yeah, please delete them all. The only people who would properly care are those inferior like Alex101. It think it says something about him that I've never seen him post outside of those topics.

To be fair, I think it does have to stop. We'll have frikkin song vs songs for every singer in existence and it will run the site's bandwidth into the ground! It was good when there were just a few of 'em, but now it's hogging up page 1 of other bands and it doesn't look like it's going to stop.

I don't know whether It'll help, but I've created a Song vs Song thread for any band, in the hope that they'll abandon the other ones and just use that one.

How can you call us inferior when you are a board member yourself and then make a reference to Alex101. Most of us are guilty of posting in the song vs. song threads in Other Bands, that is the only reason why they are still active. Making Alex101 the main culprit here is not accurate.

As for your second comment, that is simply not true, if you were around more often, you would know that.

He's not the only one that participates in them, obviously, but he's the only one who replies to all of them at the same time and basically bumps all the worthwhile topics off the first page in doing so.

And no, "most" of us don't reply to those threads. It's a pretty small minority.

Some people boost their post count in the versus threads.

Some people boost their post count criticizing others.

Yeah, my 2 posts per day average is really indicative of the fact that I'm the biggest post-whore ever. And my annoyance with the threads has nothing to do with people's post counts. It has everything to do with taking up space and bumping worthwhile topics off the page.

For gods sake, get rid of them, or at least, create a single "official versus thread", and merge all the other threads. And then enforce a strict policy of enforcement, i suggest a permanent banning for a first offense.

yes, this.

Yes that's a good idea. It loses the one-band aspect of it. But then it's no longer so ridiculous. They'll just have to answer all bands at once or whatever.

I've got a better idea. First merge all the sections to form one section. Then merge all the exisiting threads and create a fucking long one. I'm sure everyone will live happily ever after.

Yeah I always liked them too, was something to do, log on, check out a few threads and always put my one post into the song vs song thread.
My routine is ruined. Doesn't really worry me though.
I just fail to see the point in closing it.

Go ahead and create new threads as you'd like - no need to wait for any maintenance.

The point here is closing insanely large threads - you can't really view a thread with 27k responses in threaded mode for instance.

Feel free to create 'song vs. song #2' or whatever and go from there.
