yeah so I just wanted to see if there is anyone else on here that knows about these things and might eb able to open me up to them a little bit more. I mean I have a pretty good understanding of it all but I need more facts. I'm crazy about politics.

Holy shit! That Mario 64 video was incredible. I was starting to wonder if the guy who did that was somehow cheating (who knows with technology these days?). I was almost positive I would get bored of that but I clicked it anyway. I was wrong. That was fucking art.

Wow, 16 minutes, that's pretty damn impressive; it certainly took me quite a bit longer then that.

He was cheating. It says at the beginning of the video that it's a tool assisted speed-run. Basically it allows you to play the game at a slower speed to allow for easier maneuvering, then speed up the replay to make it seem like real game-play footage. Still, it's impressive in the way how he managed to map it out.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Somehow I missed that in the beginning of the video. There were a few things in that video that crossed the line of "that's really impressive"/ "that's just not possible".

Here's a speedrun that was done in 17 minutes, with no cheating...Not as flasy but a lot more impressive...http://dl.speeddemosarchive.com/demo.pl?Mario64_16stars_1731

And yeah, the thing with speedruns is that they always have mistakes. That tool-assisted one is just too perfect, it's almost impossible to have the dexterity and stamina to keep up that perfection for almost twenty minutes...

I love the twist this thread did.

Sweet. This makes me want to play the game again. Going back and replaying video games can be awesome, especially when you forget how to beat most of it.

Oh wow, and I thought my 15 minute 'all tapes, all gold medals' THPS1 runs were good.

There's a really fast Super Mario 3 speed run out there that's fucking incredible in the 8th world.

I know what you're talking about. He jumps off those bullets and stays in the air practically the whole time. It's phenomenal.

In other news, I tried to set my own little speed record for Mario 64. Would you ever believe I got stuck on the first star in the first world? How the fuck do you get behind that cage with the star in it? I know it has something to do with the bomb-omb, right?
