In the midst of everything else that has happened lately, Tom, Travis, and I have all spoken together. First through a number of phone calls, and then a couple of weeks ago we all hung out for a few hours. They’ve all been great, very positive conversations. We’re just reconnecting as friends after four years of not talking. It’s a good thing. Obviously the first question for a lot of people will be “does this mean a Blink-182 reunion?”

im sure this won't happen but if it does lol @atom willard

I think it's pretty obvious that Tom orchestrated the plane crash as a way to bring the band together. I wouldn't want to get in that man's way.

What crash? What happened?

If Mark and Travis are trusting of Tom, they're morons. Tom's certainly unhappy with his band's lack of U2-like fame, and is probably trying to make things good with the guys in hopes of reuniting his once-famous band.

Travis Barker and several other people crashed in a plane. Everyone but him and some DJ died, he has like second degree burns from his waste down or something.

And if they reunite & keep that shitty sound they used for their last album, and kept all the way through AvA, then I'm gonna be pizzed. I wanna hear some CLASSIC FUCKIN' BLINK, DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is encouraging. I must admit to being more than a little excited over basically nothing. I was hoping that the crash would at least get those guys talking again, but I'm not holding much hope for a Blink reunion.

As much as I'd like to agree (and I technically do), they're probably not going to go back to that. They seemed to be happy with their new sound.

They've jokingly said many different things, but none has been confirmed.

I wouldn't mind them reuniting. It'd be cool if +44 continues toe exist, if they do though.

And as for their band name, the story I always heard was that they were just called 'Blink' at first, but another band already was called that so they just picked a number and put it behind it.

yeh my understandin is that tom liked short words, hence blink, but then there was copyright problems and then the '182' appeared

If they were to reunite, I'd be opposed to them resorting back to their old style. That stuff was fine when they were 19. Now they're in their 30s... and obviously they've matured a lot. If they wrote the stuff they wrote in the mid-90s, it'd be so fake and manufactured only to target an audience, and it would suck so badly. However, the self titled album was crap. I'd like it if they did stuff along the lines of +44's work... if there was a reunion.

I agree completly with this, although i didn't mind their self-titled, save for a couple songs (Down.... enough said).

Tom is just suited better for pop-punk, this arena rock stuff just isn't working, and Mark and +44 seems to be lacking something, although it is still the best of the post Blink efforts. I think there is a solid chance of a reunion within a couple years. Tom will probably put out another Angels and Airwaves album before he realizes that band is going nowhere, then the notion of Blink reuniting will seem a lot more attractive.

Yeah, this was my reasoning for not wanting them to go to their old style. I don't think it would seem fake to me, though, because they're probably still immature jackasses to some extent. Besides they weren't 19 on "Fuck a Dog," "When You Fucked Grandpa," "Mother's Day," "Happy Holidays, You Bastard," etc.:p I think the sound was excellent, but better lyrics would be required.

In my opinion they could make an enema-sounding album with some more qualitative lyrics and it wouldn't look retarded. But it will never happen... I never was a fan of blink, but I definitely will not like another "I miss you".

Bump.

I'm just curious as to people's opinions. If they did get back together what album that I list below would you expect them to sound most like and why?

Enema of the State
Take off Your Pants and Jacket
Blink-182

My opinion is that they would sound most like Take off Your Pants and Jacket. It has much of the same little pretty guitar pieces that Tom is still playing with AVA. Bass lines are more along the lines of what Mark has been doing with +44. Travis is Travis, of course. I also think that the lyrics will be slightly more serious like Blink-182, but in order for them to show that they are completely back they will have to incorporate some of their teenage humor and such from Enema.

That's my opinion. What's yours?

Mmmm I love blink but if they did reunite I Really doubt it would be the same,
so maybe it's better this way. If they did reunite, they should perhaps stick
to the +44 sound which is pretty nice.

jacknife737
12-16-2008, 10:56 PM
I'd think it'd be similar the their self titled disk; simply because i feel that both AVA and +44 are musically the most similar to that record; ergo, i feel that any potential future Blink record would be influenced by their latest projects. Although, if they ever do reunite, and decide to record a new album, i can at least see them having one silly song, similar to their previous efforts, for the sake of nostalgia.

Anything except S/T would be good, but we can only dream. I have faith in
those guys though, Mark will never grow up Thankfully and tom is just a faggot

I think they would make an album like Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, which to me was kind of like a transition between their old sound and their new sound. Kind of like Sing the Sorrow was for AFI. I can imagine them wanting revisit the 90's pop punk sound that made them big, for old times sake, but also continuing to do that catchy pop stuff they they've been doing a lot of on their latest albums as well.I don't think Blink 182 has the capacity to reinvent themselves, even though they are great at what they do.

The self titled release is a hint at a direction the band wanted to take, and I think they demonstrate it in both +44 and aVa. Even if they started to write Enema-sounding songs again, there will be a lot of joy and happiness of the fans, but also a lot of bashing, calling them sellouts etc.

It's via MTV. Should be fairly reliable. I'm currently laughing that a certain Alex101 posted it...

They may and may not get back together. We will have to wait and see. Most certainly +44 will do another album, they've signed a contract, so we will see until then.

jacknife737
12-17-2008, 03:53 PM
I'm pretty sure they'll get back together at some point. I mean, a little while ago Mark said he probably wouldn't speak to Tom again, but then look what happened. I'm sure all three of them will realize that their album sales will probably triple if they stuck the name "Blink 182" on the album cover instead of +44 or AVA.

randman21

Although I hope I'm wrong, I believe that they will continue right where they left off, for the most part. Mark has said that they were all very happy with the musical direction they were taking when the band broke up. But again, I really really hope I'm wrong.

I honestly think that their Self-Titled gets a lot of shit, that it doesn't deserve. Granted some songs really weren't that great; but songs like Stockholm Syndrome were some of the best stuff they've ever done.

They're getting back together, trust me. They've realized that if they slap the Blink name on the cover, it'll sell three times as much as they would separately. Although I must say, I am more then a little curious to see what a newly reunited blink would sound like, should they ever record anything new.

Still, right now, i'd rather hear a new Plus 44 album then anything else.

Interesting! Mark is obviously interested in reuniting blink. Anyway, considering it's mostly Tom's fault if they even broke up to begin with, if the same words were uttered by Tom in an interview I'd probably think "oh shit, they're coming back together for sure". Right now, it's a really wise bet to say they're going to eventually reunite, though.

That being said, a new +44 album would indeed be nice.

I was just watching I Survived. They mentioned Stockholm Syndrome on the show, and I was like "I gotta Wikipedia that when I get home. Then I completely forgot what it was. But then I saw your post and remembered. Sounds like a strange title for a Blink 182 song though.

I second that the +44 album. I like Blink-182's music, but I hate Tom's voice.

+44 sounds like Blink-182 without Tom's voice.

The pull between the ideas the three of us had. I've always thought that the three of us each brought something unique and special to the songs, and the collision of those elements made the music what it was.
This would be a great explanation if someone asked me why I don't like either +44 or AvA. Neither feels the same, though of course +44 comes closest.

It's possible for them to get out of the contract if needed, as almost all contracts have some kind of escape clause. I can't think of too many high profile bands that wouldn't have one.

Concerning the issues with a label; Plus 44 is on Interscope, which is owned by the same parent company as Geffen, Blink's record lable. And considering that Blink album sales have dwarfed anything that either Plus 44 or AVA have released, i highly doubt they'd have any real objection to a new Blink record.

That said, my prediction is that both Plus 44 and AVA will release another studio album each, but in between they'll be a few "special" reunion shows. After that, Blink will probably start recording their "comeback" album.

Edit: looks like my prediction is already wrong, but it looks as if a Blink reunion may be getting closer; Plus 44 is FINISHED.

Mark Hoppus plans solo album, +44 not likely to resume
Posted on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 8:00 PM (EST)

Though there were promises that the band would continue, it looks like Plus 44 is done. Mark Hoppus spoke MTV about the project:
Since late August of last year, I've been in the studio every week writing songs with the intention of putting out a record of my own. As of this week, I've got about 10 songs in various stages of completion and another 10 ideas that I still want to work on Travis has played on a bunch of [my] tracks, and he's working on his own album as well. We totally support each other in whatever we're doing.

He's like a brother to me. I see him in our studio every week, and we'll be in the room of the studio he's working in, listening to stuff he's recorded, or he'll come into the room where I'm working and check out my songs. He's played on a bunch of them, and he's asked if I'll play on some of his songs. We collaborate and give each other ideas and support. That's what I meant when I said [in the interview at the Woodies], 'No matter what I work on, Travis will be a part of it.
