I thought it'd be awesome if people who have lyrics in their songs could post the lyrics to them. I'd like to know what you guys are saying and what your songs are about! And if your song is instrumental, you fail. Just kidding, maybe you could write something for us regarding what your song is about.

I'm too lazy to check if there were changes between the time I wrote it and when I recorded it.

Fifty-First in Line

Here I go. Here I go again,
playing with my life. Its much more fun this time.

Were almost done, so here it comes, the end.
But I wont be scared.
My sense of fear has been impaired.

Darkness.
Deep and utter darkness
comes around to look at me,
quietly, laughing with each glare.

I can almost hear its presence,
speaking with no hesitance,
saying things I dont want to hear.

Do you want to take a walk with me?
Do you think that you are really free?
I can show you things you never thought youd find.
Come if you want to be redefined.

I saw the light, but it never quite found me.
Fight, I fought the fight, but I lost.
I stand alone, turning my back on being the one whos
the fifty-first in line.

Twenty.
Serving number twenty.
Was I always meant to be,
tragically, behind everyone else.

This anti-light, it blocks my view,
but now I see what I must do after all.

{[Guitar Solo]}

I saw the light, but it never quite found me.
Fight, I fought the fight, but I lost.
I stand alone, turning my back on being the one whos
the fifty-first in line.

I see what I must do after all.

No problem. :)

I uploaded the newer version of my song with the vocals redone... if anyone is interested in hearing the vocals not completely improvised, here: http://rapidshare.com/files/171397409/The_Surge__yo.mp3.html

Anyway, the lyrics to this song genuinely suck. Like I said, I made them up as I went along, and it wasn't meant to be a lyrical song... so please be forgiving!

The Surge

How can I still lie right here every day
How do I let this happen every time
It's not like I don't know what it means to me
Not like I'm comfortable in my complacency

I don't seem to know what I want
But I do know what it is I need
I even know how to get there
And I know I need to get the hell out

Why do I keep doing this
Why do I keep doing this
Why do I keep doing this same old thing

Take out the trash just like every day
I vacuum, go to the store
It sure smells nice in here, doesn't it?
You know life is pretty grand
And I don't mean to complain
But I can't lie to myself anymore

D-TOX - 'The Uk's Burning'

anxcious young seb takes a ride in his car
just got his license had'nt really been far
now he takes a drive into the town
his hearts in his mouth and he's satrting to drown
(a hundred miles an hour somethings gone in his brain, the thrill of his rides enough to drive him insane)
i guess you know what happens and whats going to be
another stupid kid
is dead on the street
wow wow
its all on me, out on the street
gun crime and knives are yearning
wow wow
tell me to speak so listen to me
the united kingdoms burning
'i shall not back down'
united kingdoms burning
'we shall not back down'
united kingdoms burning!
at 18 mary-jane puts out sex on the street
in and out of rehab, it's going to be
she never met her father, her mothers the same
another fucked up kid, with only parents to blame
(she spends her life on drugs as shes playing the game, the buzz and the high really drives her insane)
i guess you know what happens and whats going to be
mary's in the paper found dead in the streets

wow wow
its all on me, out on the street
gun crime and knives are yearning
wow wow
tell me to speak so listen to me
the united kingdoms burning
'i shall not back down'
united kingdoms burning
'we shall not back down'
united kingdoms burning!

breakdown: 'donnas doing well raising kids on her own
her husband fucked around and now shes alone
tyler lost his job, his wife and his son
they found him on the floor dead and holding a gun'

seb shoulda known he had to slow down
mary shoulda known the streets hold you down
donnas wasted life had her in tears
tyler shoulda held out and coped with his fears

then lots of wows lol :)

Huh, I actually kinda liked the lyrics for that song. I think that'll make the enjoyment level of the song increase. Thanks for posting.

If everyone posts their lyrics here, I'll type up a booklet thing for the album to go with the cover art. :)

Here's mine:

--The Underdog--

Everybody says that they've been violated
Everybody acts like we're discriminated
Such a shame it is that we're all so atrocious
That we'll try to milk someone else's injustice
Makes me wonder why the view seems so good for me
If everything is going down to hell from here
The world's been coming to an end since it began

Seen it on the TV, I know that it's for me
I wanna be the one who kills complacency
Sparking racial tensions for honorable mention
I wanna live inside an alternate dimension
Where I'm violated, I've been desecrated
If they think my life can fuel the prime-time machine
They might let me in....they might have some respect!

(Yah, right....)

If everyone's the underdog, then who's on the top?
When everybody's trying to be something they're not
Does it make it any better just to know that you're alone?
You try to wear the jacket when it's too fucking hot
Just so you can get on camera for a ten-second spot
And I think that's plenty of elmer's glue in your hair
(You try to be yourself but you don't know anymore
Distracted by the groupies breaking down your front door
All this attention's piercing down to your bone....you can't win)

Calling bullshit on the Christian fascist leaders
All the money schemes and crocodile tears
Outcasts calling out the organized religions ---
Hey! At least they're making all their own decisions
Play the underdog card, everybody does it
Nobody will question you or call you on it 'cause it's
The forbidden game no one wants to play

If you win, you'll be rejected by your family
Just stick to the bottom where it's fine and dandy
Just stick to the bottom....
Just stick to the bottom....

There's a little story to how this one got written, actually. Back when I was first getting into punk, there was this whole "underdog" theme, about how a lot of the best bands weren't being recognized by the corporate mainstream (like the Ramones in the 70's and 80's, for example). I had a lot of respect for 'em because they kept playing and touring even though they didn't make a whole shitload of money, and that was that for awhile; it seemed like a genuine claim to me, that these folks were "the underdogs."

This started happening more often, though; I started hearing more mainstream bands refer to themselves as "the underdogs," or the "outcasts," or whatever, and I thought it was kind of funny; the fact that they were able to even apply such terms to themselves showed, to me, exactly how disconnected they were from their own success; they don't even know what it means to be truly outcast from the mainstream music world.

And it just got worse from there; I started hearing about people like John McCain, who literally called himself "The Underdog" several times during the election, in spite of the fact that (historically and statistically) the fact that he was white alone seemed to be giving him the upper hand. This being back when I was kinda hopeful for Obama, but I didn't really think he stood a chance simply because he was black and I didn't think a lot of people would've voted for him because of that.

Even more ridiculous, I started seeing these guys on big Christian networks, talking about how Christianity is being discriminated against worldwide (and in America, of all places), and all these other militant ideas of how to "fight back" against this "discrimination." And I thought of these rich, well-to-do, politically-active white guys, "If you ever knew what it was like to not be able to have someone represent your ideas in public office, or to not have the same civil rights as someone else based on something like your race or your religion, then maybe I'd be more inclined to listen to you." And of course, in the same breath as this claim of "discrimination," they'd turn around and ask you for your "Love Gift" (i.e. money donation). Terms like that sort of creep me out; the idea of not calling it what it is, and replacing it with some fluffy "Love Word," kind of rings Orwellian to me.

Another thing that made me want to write this was when I would be hanging on conservative message boards, and the Evangelicals there would make extremely careless references to things like WWII and the Nazi movement, as if it weren't anywhere near as big a deal as it was. They would arbitrarily compare the Nazi movement to such things as liberalism, abortion, atheism and evolution in general, among other things.

But I digress --- those are all just extreme examples. To sum it up, this song is basically about how everyone and their mom thinks they've been dealt a raw hand by life, and how somebody owes them for having to put up with the pain of living....they don't seem to realize, painful and unfair things happen to everybody. Some do genuinely have it worse than others, but those are special cases and should not be arbitrarily compared to your own situation (like the Jews in WWII, or the blacks in the Civil Rights movement). It's also about how a lot of the fringe lunatic groups (from the Hardest of the Hardcore Punks to the most extreme right wing organizations) tend to want to Kick You Out Of The Club once you've become successful and recognized by the mainstream. There's this idea that you just can't be that successful, so you must have done something inscrutable to make it that far --- you must've Sold Out, or something. It's like this weird delusion where they want their ideas to be accepted by the mainstream, but when someone actually makes progress to that end, they're discredited by their own foundational organizations 0_0 Kind of a weird setup where we claim we want something, then work tirelessly to get it until we get it or get close to it, then we throw it away and start over, all the while insisting that the final goal justifies the means.

Oh, and the last line of the first verse references the idea that "the world's coming to an end" because of some particular ideology; according to these types of people, the world has "been coming to an end" for quite some time now....and yet, we're still here~

And on a closing note....the line about elmer's glue in the hair was actually taken from a conversation on these very boards :) Someone posted a topic about how Cone from Sum 41 put elmer's glue in his hair to keep it spiky like that, and I thought it was a funny touch (I like Sum 41~). So I poked light-heartedly at that kind of extravagant self-customization.

you sleep calm and so soundly
you breathe, your mind is at peace
usually the sound is so soothing
but tonight, i'm lying awake

now that i, now that i finally
realize all of these lies
tonight i'm going away
and there's nothing you could say

cause i'm gone
i've gone away
i'm gon
i've gone away

cause no amount of roses
or colored light
no romantic poses
can make it right
now that i see

no amount of sorries
apologies
no amount of crying
now i am free
i am free

theres nothing that we can talk about
i'm out on my own, i'm getting out
when we fell in love we were so young
i finally know you aren't the one

i'm gone
i've gone away
i'm gone
i've gone away

cause no amount of roses
or colored light
no romantic poses
can make it right
now that i see

no amount of sorries
apologies
no amount of crying
now i am free
i am free

never again will we pretend
that theres nothing wrong, nothing to mend
the lesson is learned, the point is made
now i'll take a chance and change my ways

i'm free
i've gone away
i'm free
i've gone away

now i, i am so sorry
but i feel its what i must do

PS: I agree Randy, I like your song even more now that i know the words. :D

Good morning, Green Eyes
You haven't slept for so long
I think it's these scenes
Where you beg for your lines
So let's get rid of our scripts,
And we'll try this once more:
Lights, camera, action
Let's take it from the top --

Streetlights blink off to sleep
Against a burning red sky
As we tightrope across the day
On calendar lines
There are stars on your sky
I swear you're the only one
Who's strong enough to pluck them out
One by one

We spent summer feeding colds
And winter was starving fevers
By the time spring comes, I have thawed
And melted back into who I used to be

Take a deep breath
And drink in your life
You're headed for something
You could've never pictured
So give me a sign
That I'm doing this right,
But you're so nervous you can't speak
And I'm so anxious I'm loud

We'll spend winter feeling cold
But summer was starting fevers
When spring comes, I will thaw
And melt into a puddle on the floor

We're so lonely and forgotten
The words we scream are so wrong
They fumble out, one by one
Each more awkward than before
If I could rewrite my script,
I know exactly what I'd say --
I'd say, "Good morning, Green Eyes,
How are you today?"

We're so lonely and forgotten
The words we scream are so wrong
If I could rewrite my script,
I know exactly what I'd say:

I'd say -- Summer, feeding colds
But winter was starving fevers
By the time spring comes, I will thaw
And then melt into, who I want to be

Ummm, I wanted to write a song for someone special to me, and referenced a lot of moments about the first time we met (we stayed up all night at the beach), so I tried to capture it like it was trapped in a movie reel in my head and as though I could've changed the things I said that night. As I wrote, it eventually became about trying to find yourself and how other people can help you do that if you let them. The summer feeding colds thing basically compares my relationship with her to a disease, but she thought it was cute, so whatever.

Awesome... I already liked both of your songs without lyrics, so lyrics just add to it. Mike, you've totally got the indie song writing style down... I could hear those lyrics coming off Minneapolis's 89.3 The Current, our indie public funded radio station. Very nice.

And Lost, your lyrics fit the song's style really well. Your lyrics are a bit more straight forward, which works great with the fact that your song is very straight forward. I like it!

Keep them coming, guys... still need lyrics for "Mature" and "Save the Day". I've got the rest of the lyrics typed up for a booklet... I'll see what I can do as far as that goes. I've never made a CD booklet before.

Secrets Acoustic

The secrets that you hide will never reside
'Cause I will make my way, my way inside.
The secrets that you have will never find a way
Find a way to get away from me.

The secrets that you have will never resign
'Cause I will make their way, their way outside.
The secrets that you create will never take their shape
'Cause I promise I will obliterate.

Save the Day

Don't think I've ever felt this way
Guess I'll never see the light of day
And all I can do is look away
Guess I'm never gonna save the day

Everyone's afraid, but no one is comin' to their aid
A man accused of tellin' a lie, and he'll never have an alibi

Stare at the TV in disbelief, thinking,
"It's not right!", as I drop to my knees
They said that it all was shown
But really only half the story is known

I don't know what this song is about, really. I just kinda started writing lyrics one night. So what do you guys think they're about?

Llamas
12-08-2008, 04:50 PM
lol Ryder, well your lyrics definitely don't make me like your song more... but there's nothing wrong with that. If lyrics aren't your strong suit, don't try to force them, you know? Better to have illogical lyrics than ones that try too hard. :)

Oh, and I have absolutely no idea what those lyrics could be about. I guess it seems like it could be about something wrong that went down in society, and how nobody's doing anything about it, even though they might know more about it than they let on. However, the narrator wishes he could do something to help, but ends up feeling lost and pathetic because there's nothing he can do. That's what I got from it.

Static_Martyr
12-09-2008, 10:09 AM
I don't know, Ryder's lyrics sound kind of classic hardcore to me; just simple imagery about a bunch of disconnected things going wrong in the world, and a guy sitting alone and mulling about how he can't do anything about it by himself (he's no superhero, after all, and only superheroes can really "save the day" in that sense....am I right?).

Well, here it goes... somehow I never feel like I'm using proper english in my lyrics:( But let's see... I hope my german english is not too embarassing:D

Mature

There is a part of your youth
when you're seeking the truth
When you're learning that there is also
A way to say no

And you want to change the day
Live your life in your own way
Overthrow the system with only
your own purity

But as soon as they do know
Malice and darkness come to show
They'll manipulate you
Until you got their ideology, too
And as soon as you are theirs
You won't move to other lairs
From that moment on they're sure
You've become mature

(They) give your life in other hands
For you can't make more demands
From that moment on they're sure
You are mature

Now please concentrate on your true inner values
And please demonstrate that you don't want to be used
Only if you stay young and find the way that's almost gone
You'll be able to find the real sun

And you want to change the day
Live your life in your own way
Overthrow the system with only
your own strength and purity

But as soon as they do know
Malice and darkness come to show
They'll manipulate you
Until you got their ideology, too
And as soon as you are theirs
You won't move to other lairs
From that moment on they're sure
You've become mature

(They) give your life in other hands
For you can't make more demands
From that moment on they're sure
You are mature

Sweet, we got all the lyrics now. I've got them all typed into a word file... I edited the lyrics to match the actual songs, because a few of you guys sang a few parts slightly different than it's written, and the phrasing looks a bit different to work right in a booklet (we all typed our lyrics up in a different way- I just went for consistency). I'll figure out how to make it into a booklet and post the link. It'd be cool if we had an album cover and a back, and could actually print off the stuff and make it into an actual album.
